Finally went in to buy a pair of shoes and the customer service was still first-rate. My old shoes were giving me problems and needed to be replaced. After discussing my issues with them and trying on a couple pairs of shoes, it turns out my previous shoes were too small. Strange thing considering my age, but at some point my feel got bigger by a couple sizes. Problem solved. Once we figured out the size issue, we discussed my running/walking and then the real fun began! I tried on 5 or 6 pairs of shoes and was able to find some that feel great. I have a number of miles on them and am very satisfied. They even gave me a free shirt to go with my new shoes. Knowing what I know now, I could buy my next pair of shoes online but I will buy from Varsity again to support the great service I have gotten. read more

I have been buying my shoes from varsity sports for many years. They have always been exceptionally helpful. That has not changed., I have exchanged these shoes a minimum of three times each time I have had the same difficulty with the shoe. Lack of support lack of fit. I don't believe it's the staff I honestly believe it's the manufacturers. In the future I will need to find a different shoe and since I have been through all that they carry in my size I will need to find a different source. I was greeted and asked how they could be of assistance. I told them what shoes I had bought there before and the size and colors I was looking for on this visit. I asked about other styles that might address my foot care needs. the recommendation was to stick with what I was wearing. My options were one color in each style. I inquired about a third shoe but not available in my color options. ordering was a possibility but not an encouraged option. i realize that they can't keep a huge stock but I felt there wasn't encouragement to help further. She always greeted us with a smile and her knowledge, after working there for many years, was invaluable. She always fitted us with the what our needs required. Came in to look for Onclouds for my boyfriend (wanted to try them on since we didn't know how the brand runs). We end up ordering a pair of onclouds. The lady took our contact information, and says it'll be ~10 days until they come in and that they will call us. 2 and a half weeks pass so we call them and turns out they NEVER ORDERED THE SHOES. I have been a loyal Varsity customer for years, and this was my first visit to the Mandeville location. I was just browsing and checking if there was anything new that I wanted. I did find some socks to replace some of mine that are very well loved and probably needed to be retired. While I was there, Conner was helping a young lady who was about to start a new job and needed shoes to be walking around all day in. He explained the process and had a number of items for her to consider based on her gait and pronation. She found her pair and was very happy. I was helped by a gentleman who was very excited that I found what I was looking for. The store itself is very open and clean. The investment is worth it - sometimes you have to pay a little more for quality goods. But you will not be sorry. I also love that you can return your shoes even after wearing them if something isn't right. Jenni Peters is so passionate about making sure you find what is right for you. My husband was in dire need of shoes for his workouts, and we were in town for Christmas. I bought walking/running shoes here years ago, so we decided to stop in. My husband was so impressed with the process and time the sales associate took to ensure he had the exact shoe to meet his needs. He has a wide food and high instep like I do, so I knew they'd fit him with Brooks. He wears those shoes to the gym 3-5 days per week and absolutely loves them. They were a huge upgrade from his Under Armor ones he bought years ago. His new Brooks have given his foot the additional support it needs when running and strength training. The clothing/boutique items are also nice. They sell Vuori and have a good selection of athletic apparel. We will definitely be back in the future. Staff has been rude and makes customers seem like a burden every time I have gone to this store. I thought maybe the staff was just having a bad day when my husband and I first went in in September 2020 but we had the same experience this past Saturday and again today. I asked another customer what she thought outside the store and she agreed. My husband wont shop at this store for the same reason. Service is fine. Employees are fine. Just make sure that you are 100% committed to your purchase because their "return policy" is absolutely asinine. It's store credit, exchange or being stuck with an item you don't want. The receipt saying you paid with cold hard cash doesn't mean a thing. This place is great! I needed to get some new running shoes, and I decided to go to a specialty running store to make sure I got shoes that were a good fit. So I found Varsity Sports in Mandeville and headed over to check it out. First off, the area the store is in is beautiful. The store itself is in a converted house a few blocks from Lake Pontchartrain. Inside, they have a wide selection of running shoes and other running gear (pants, shirts, gloves, socks, etc.) The salespeople were extremely helpful. My salesperson had me take off my shoes and socks, roll up my pants, and walk back and forth across the room several times to see how I walked and how my feet land on the ground before beginning to select shoes for me to try on. I found a pair of new shoes that fit great and (almost) make me look forward to running. Plus, they throw in a free t-shirt if you buy a pair of shoes! read more

I've visited this store 3 times. I made my last visit less than a month ago, I didn't want to buy from them but needed to try on to see what fits best. My second visit, the staff was very rude, they make you feel like you don't belong.... When I came in last month wanting to try On Cloud shoes the 3 workers were gathered behind the register laughed, sighed and rolled eyes with disgust that I was inquiring on a brand they obviously disapprove of. The lady helping me made me feel like I was not worthy, waste of time. I couldn't pin point why , I mentioned to my husband , "I told you I didn't want to come back here". He said , I definitely see what your talking about, we can leave.... I said if they don't have my size we will leave. At this point I didn't want to give this lady my business but also it's not fair I will have to walk out of here empty handed. I don't know if it's when they see someone walking in their business that is not an "avid" runner, doesn't have the physique like a runner and or especially NOT requesting their preferred shoe for some odd reason... You're not welcomed at Varsity Sports unless you're in the circle....I really hoped my 3rd visit was going to be a change as they are local with the best selection but unfortunately the 3rd visit was the worst and last. Helloooo new shoes! I'm training for my first half marathon and desperately needed new shoes...my old shoes of 2+ years had 200+ miles!! I knew I needed to go somewhere that would be helpful with finding the "right" shoes for me. The nice young lady asked me to walk back and forth the room, bare feet, .... then asked a few questions..then got me 3 pairs. I picked the first pair (Brooks)..I also tried some Mizuno and Nike. I left the store with a new AWESOME pair of shoes, a Nike+ velcro pouch, and a FREE shirt for $130. I expected to pay about $110 for shoes.. What I loved is that she was helpful, no pressure to buy the more expensive shoes...AND she let me take a quick run down the street.
