First time trying Varsity Pizza (I normally go to Pizza 3000). The 2 pizzas were prepared quickly and ready when I arrived 20 minutes after ordering. Ordered pickup for the first time from Varsity last night. Solid pizza! It's that old school type of pizza... Nothing fancy or gourmet, super cheesy and completely delicious! We had the Donair and the Hawaiian. Looking forward to trying other specialties. I was a bit confused on there being two websites and different prices so I confirmed prices over the phone! Recently moving to the NW, I have realized that there are a lot of options for pizza, varying from very-good to cardboard with sauce and cheese. One of my favourite pizza joints thus far is Varsity Pizza & Subs. It's not a huge place, so I suggest takeout or delivery over eating there, but as I recall there is some seating. The pizza is good, with plenty of cheese, a golden crust and, thankfully, at a decent price. A medium Pep/Bacon will run you something like $10.50- that's pretty darn good for above average pizza. The Delivery, in my experience is quick (I do live close) and there was no waiting or quilting me into a tip (obviously I gave him one anyway,). On top of that, unlike Pizza 73, I didn't see any mandatory delivery charge on the bill.. I can't speak to the subs, but if the pizza and garlic bread say anything, you'll likely be more than happy. read more

This is a true in the hole pizza and sub experience but there is one item on the menu that keeps me coming back. The donair sub is a unique creation that fuses giro meat with typical submarine ingredients and donair sauce. If you live in the NW and have never tried this place, stop by one evening if you're driving through. You'll keep coming back. read more

Once again have to remind gluten free people to try this pizza! Excellent and they are allergy aware. Just great experience again- thanks! The owner marked the gluten free box and is so very aware of cross contamination. It's always worrisome in pizza places with the evil wheat everywhere, but they are alert and careful. This pizza place forgot my pineapples on a ham and pineapple with donair and olives... The cheese was crusty but not golden, and it smelled strange. I was only offered a $5 off coupon for my next visit, not a new pizza, which I wouldn't want to go pick up anyway. The last time I had a boring sub here that made me wish I had gone to Subway. For being a Pizza and Sub joint, I expected some effort and what I paid for, getting neither. I tipped them for a failed pizza. And for that I will give them a bad review on three different sites. They make a decent pie for a good price. Fed 11 people for less than 60 bucks. Good crisp crust that isn't too thin with nice amount of toppings and cheese. Good selection of available halal meats for those that need it. read more

We just moved to Varsity and had no idea where the great pizza was in that area. We lucked out on the first place we tried. Our pizzas were quick to arrive and oh..so tasty. We will definitely be ordering from Varsity Pizza again. read more

If you went to U of C for a few years then you had to have learned about Varsity Subs. When I used to go here it was run by an older couple who seemed to have been running the same specials since the '60s. The subs are absolutely loaded with a ridiculous amount of meat and I remember them costing about $5 for a footlong. The pizzas are greasy but delicious and also priced from the Great Depression. I'm not a huge Hawaiian fan but I used to love it from here. Too bad its so far away or else I'd still be a regular. I'll probably go back in time for my mid-life crisis. read more

I attended st Vincent de Paul school which is about 5 minutes away from this pizza joint. I'd often go there for their great pizza lunch deals. It was 1.50 for a slice and 50 cents for a pop. The pizza was amazing. I remember going there and being pleased every time by the friendly owners who seemed very genuine and cool. Only complaint is the pizza is very greasy. Which was often a staple about this place. Good times in that joint. I'll miss it next year, but I'll make sure to come back often. read more

Was in the neighbourhood so I stopped by for a Donair pizza ($12.75 M). Not my favourite texture and was a bit on the dry and tasteless side, but a decent crust and a good amount of cheese for people who like thicker pizzas. Friendly staff though, will be back to try their subs. read more

This place is a community icon for 20+ years. The pizza is best ordered ahead and picked up hot, but it's crispy, greasy and super cheesy with plenty of sauce. Pizza is so subjective, but I really like theirs. They do slices around lunch as well, they get soggy fast but are still tasty, even eaten cold later. Run by really nice people. read more

Acted like an immature child when I asked for a refund because he used OLD gloves and microwaved the meat. (paid for before he made the order) I went in today and ordered a slice of pizza and a beef donair. I ordered and paid first. First, he did not use gloves from the glove box. He put on a pair of gloves that were who knows how old, sitting out on the counter and I could tell they had been used because they were puffy, not flat like new gloves out of the box. Gross. I then watch as he goes to the back, takes a FROZEN brick of donair slices and bread from the walk-in, and brings it to the front. He puts the slices on a plate and starts to microwave them, This is absolutely disgusting, who wants to eat microwaved donair? I don't come to a restaurant to eat microwaved beef slices. He then takes off his gloves, ever so carefully, finger by finger so as to make sure he can put them on next time he needs to make food, and places them on the counter. Doesn't throw them away. Clearly they have been using the same gloves all day. Not once did he wash his hands. I asked him, politely, if I could have my money back for the donair but I will keep the pizza. Thought I would just get my refund and leave. No, he gets angry. Starts shaking his head, tosses the bread down like a child, and complains, raising his voice, "Now I'm going to have to throw it out, its going to go in the garbage!" Like I care what you do with it (which is probably repurpose it for some other customer). He goes into the back and starts complaining to his coworker in his language. I just want to get my money and leave. He comes back, tosses my money on the counter. I left, will never be back again. Took the slice of pizza but ended up eating at Cedar Deli in Market Mall. My advice is to drive one minute up the road and just go there if you want a decent donair. Hope all the pennies you saved re-using plastic gloves add up. Edited: By the way I did not eat the piece of pizza; it looked less than appetizing. A gross place all around. Avoid it all costs. read more

way back in the late 90s when i was in jr high, hundreds of students would make the 1150hrs pilgrimage to this place for $1.25 slices (pepperoni only). the slices were warm and so greasy, it made the tin-foil wrapping on each slice translucent. this place still has GREAT greasy pie. their hawaiian is AMAZING. they seem to be under new management and their pie has gotten a bit weird (it's the sauce) but it's still good dough, cheese, and ingredients. and for lunch? you can still get a foot long sub and a pop for less than $6. i don't know how much their lunch slices are, i'd imagine $2 or something. crappy hours, but when the place is run by a Greek mom-and-pop, i'm fine with it. read more

really great pizza and sub place,been coming here since i was in high school never had an issue with the service as the brothers who own the place are always nice and friendly, idk what pizza place callum went too but ive never had an issue with them, definitely a hole in the wall so dont expect much in terms of dine in also its been there since the 80's so it looks a little outdated but thats irrelevant when the foods great! read more
