Mexico City's industrial northside community, Azcapotzalco, is not the first place one would look for Indian food, but those who seek out Varanasi will not be disappointed.
Located on the second floor of a mini-mall, this intimate restaurant features a wealth of North Indian food from samosas and pakoras to naan, masalas, vindaloos, and much more, all reasonably priced and served with a smile by very professional wait staff.
There are plenty of vegetarian as well as meaty options, a natural juices and lassi menu. Ask for the special off-menu tamarind chutney--it's the perfect sweet/sour/slightly spicy accompaniment.
The pulao kesar has to be my favorite rice dish of all time, featuring delicious curried basmati rice infused with roasted nuts, cranberry, and fragrant herbs--out of this world!
Varanasi also has a popular Mexican-food menu for less adventurous diners. All in all, a real treat for this expat looking for something different on DF's north side. read more
