NOT QUITE LIKE INDIA BUT STILL GOOD - So it's hard to find good authentic Indian in Mexico City for some reason and often that means you need to sacrifice. But Tandoor near Polanco is a nicely decorated, open, spacious, and well serviced option. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the dishes while slightly expensive are still a reasonable value for the quality. Purists will not appreciate the beef dishes or the Pakistani dishes sprinkled into the menu, and the dishes are notably lighter in ghee so less rich than true India cooking, but the flavors are solid and the variety is good. They also serve free mint and classic raitas and some mango pickle with your meal, which each are excellent. Overall while you can find reasons to nitpick on authenticity, if you can get over that you can have a genuinely nice meal in a lovely place. This place is good and unfairly ranked perhaps by some folks that don't understand Indian food. We were delighted to find Indian restaurant in Mexico - while we like Mexican food but it got a bit tiring to have it every single day while in Mexico City. So I took the opporunity to take a cab drive and and visit this place. The prices are a bit on the higher side but the food didn't disappoint. It is very much Indian food that you get in USA. While I would have rated it bit more than 4 but given it is under rated, I bumped this one to 5. The ambiance is good overall and service is quick. read more

Don't be fooled by all the negative reviews, this place is great! Food is very flavorful especially the sauce, i recommend tandoori chicken. The ambience is amazing, traditional Indian decor and architecture. Service is very quick and friendly, one thing is that the check comes out a little slow so if you're in a hurry make sure to ask them when you're finished. Would recommend! read more

We had come to this place many times in the past. This time unfortunately we were disappointed. Food was good, nothing spectacular (it has been better other times). Portions were tiny compared to what we had been used to when we came here some years ago. Service is pretty slow (it's always been, nothing new there) but what really blew our minds was the fact that mom wanted to go to the bathroom and told the waiter there was no toilet paper. They didn't seem to care much and gave her some napkins. Lol! We thought it's crazy to come to a nice place like this and have that happen. She went there twice and there was still no toilet paper. We ordered food from here to-go via Rappi. We ordered chicken pakoras, chicken tikka masala, matar paneer, and naan. So far, this has been the worst indian food we have had in Mexico city. I don't know how a staple like the chicken tikka was messed up: it tasted funny, and the chicken in it wasn't great. The chicken pakoras tasted old. The naan was thick and hard to eat. Based on previous reviews we were not sure but decided to try this restaurant. Overall the food quality is good. It's just that the entire menu is truly alacarte. Even papadums and naan bread pay by the piece. We had 2 papadums which were thin, crispy & tasty served with 3 different toppings and the mango topping was delicious! We had a cauliflower appetizer, arracherra tandoori(very tender) & shrimp vindaloo(very spicy)as our main courses. I chose the yellow rice & my hubby chose the white. He had 2 amber modelo beers and I had a delicious mango lassi. FYI I'd pass on the garlic naan (2pieces)because the garlic was dried flakes and not very tasty. I went here twice when I was in D.F. The good was really good both times. The first time I ordered fish tikka and the chicken biriyani. The second time I ordered chicken biriyani, lamb curry with almonds, plain Naan and tandoori chicken. The flavors and presentation of dishes seem to have been tailored for the clientele they want to target. The tandoori chicken and fish tikka I ordered were presented as a sizzlers. I must add couple of things for those who are seeking Halal food. This restaurant serves alcohol and only some dishes are halal depending on what day you go. The owner has to personally slaughter the animals for the halal dishes and you should call ahead to see halal dishes on the day you are going. read more

If you are really hungry and craving for Indian - Pakistani food, Tandoor is a decent option. Their ambience is mostly Indian antique and vintage and the menu did have some good vegetarian options. We started with the vegetable pakora which came along with mint and yogurt condiments. It seemed it like it was just onion pakoras. We couldn't really bite into any other vegetable. But it tasted okay and wasn't oily. We then ordered for the Sabzi Shorba. The soup was hot and filled with flavors and vegetables. So a big thumbs up for that. For main course, we ordered puris, vegetable pulao and shahi paneer. The puris were too crispy that it looked liked papadum for a minute. The gravy was good. The pulao was mildly flavored and was filling for only one person. We then finished our meal with sweet lassi (which was highly recommended on Yelp) and gulab jamun. Ordering the lassi was the best decision we made. It was extremely delicious. The gulab jamun was too soft and sweet for me. But wasn't bad either. What I liked about the restaurant was the good and quick service. But their quantities are too small and would not be filling enough to share with another person. The prices aren't bad either. I ordered the bhuna mushroom, cheese naan, and cardamom lassi for delivery via Postmates. The bhuna was made with canned mushrooms and mostly tasted of tomatoes and onions, and the two yogurt sauces sent with it were mostly frozen. Worst experience.. stale food .. not even close to Indian taste. We were visiting Mexico City for a few days and wanted to try some Indian food as we were craving for Indian food for sometime. The owner initially talked us sweetly into taking his recommendation. We ordered malai kofta and dal fry. The food was really stale . Seemed like they just warmed it up and served. The dal was sour (as it gets when stale) and you could really see the koftas smelling . We somehow just ate whatever we could with the lassi . The owner sheepishly just kept avoiding us knowing he fooled us , never came back to ask us how the food was- we were the only desi (Indian ) there and the owner was desi too, I would imagine as general courtesy he would come by and ask. On the contrary as we paid the bill and were about to leave he quickly ran upstairs when he saw us coming . Great ambiance. Great location. Flat taste and left over food taste for the price you pay. . Had a seekh kabaab, mutton Korma, and naans. Kabaab were not marinated properly and were breaking. Mutton Korma was actually beef. It was cold but the curry in it was fine, except not spicy enough for what was asked. Naans were too small, cold, and tasted like a bottle of baking soda.
