DON'T TRUST CHAT GPT - Usually Chat GPT is a good source to give you recommendations but for some unbeknownst reason to me it recommends Taj Mahal as the best Indian in Mexico City. Havining spent more than a few weeks of my life in India, I can say with certainty this was a poor representation. I don't like to be mean, this is just based on facts. The naan was more like pita, the tandoori chicken was served presliced and dry, the raita was literally just a scoop of unflavored yogurt, and the chicken tikka masala had almost no flavor. The costs were relatively high, the service was very very, slow, even by local standards, and the restaurant itself was a but dated and weathered. So overall not the best ambiance, mid at best. Maybe it was an off nite, maybe they had a substitufe chef that night, but overall even in a city known for very few Indian restaurants, I personally cannot recommend anything we ordered or the experience. Wait no, the cardamom tea was good and the mango lassi was pretty decent. But otherwise this is the unfortunate truth about our experience. Happy eating from John Seeto! read more

We visited this place last week. Tried the Paneer Masala ( requested for Paneer Tikka Masala which was not the menu) , Naan , Dal Tadka and Rice . This is one I was craving for a long time, as I had not had Indian food since October in New York City. Something about the mix and variety of spices has turned me into an Indian food fan in the last two years. I used to fear "spicy" indian food, but minus Vindaloo it's usually pretty reasonable. How would Mexico City compare to what I've had? Like the Russian Restaurant, I entered as the only patron. I immediately dug the decorations: a Taj Mahal painting, hindu god head, and even Bollywood playing on the TV. THE FOOD Appetizers: My friend and I split three Vegetable Samosas to start. They were smaller than the ones I have had before, but had a nice blend of flavor with the green dipping sauce. We also indulged in some Pakora Vegetables, which quite frankly were too salty. Garlic Naan was a nice addition that was enjoyed before and after the main entrees. Entrees: We decided to split the Chicken Masala and Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi. I found it a bit odd that rice cost extra, so we ended up with one saffron rice and one regular white. The Tikka Jalfrezi was the most interesting with a mixture of green peppers, chili and ginger. The Masala had a coconut and almond cream that worked together. I actually think the Saffron Rice was the best dish with a hearty mixing of vegetables. Service: Here is where some Barr ratings are lost. They first said they didn't have any cold Dos Equis Amber, before returning and saying they did. After bringing our meal they didn't check up on us at all and I had to go up and ask for a second round of drinks. Final Price: $810 pesos for 2 ($43 US Dollars) Not a cheap meal by any means - and I really didn't like the almost $6 dollar upcharge on the Saffron Rice. BARR RATING: They received 3 Barrs. While the food was tasty, the service and upcharges left a sour taste in my mouth . I would return but am also curious about other Indian options in the area. read more

Coming from a city that has authentic restaurants it has been challenging to find a great Indian spot here in CDMX. I walked by this place to look at the menu and I was welcomed by the owner. He was very friendly and a bit of a plus is that he spoke English! He sat down with me and went over the menu and answered all my questions! The food I ended up taking home was prepared very quickly and was finished even faster! The people were so nice. They don't serve alcohol, but they will allow you to bring your own. I had the butter chicken and the jera rice. They were good. The samosas were a little different than I'm used to, but they were still nice. Not even close to authentic. Popadoms are straight out of the freezer via the fryer, 'chicken tikka' is just regular chicken, and the less said about the breads the better. Food emerges from the dirty kitchen suspiciously fast. Mega expensive for what it claims to be, especially since the cooks have probably never been closer to India, or real Indian food for that matter, than the Mexico City airport. Four stars indicates I'm a fan. I'm not, but read on. First thing to note is that this is NOT an Indian restaurant. It is Bangladesh in nature. The food is not as spicy and the menu will not include all the preparations you might expect from an Indian restaurant. We started with the beef samosas. They come in threes and are smaller than the traditional samosas we've experienced elsewhere. The beef was not spicy although it was spiced. We enjoyed them - not greasy. The "dipping" sauces were interesting. The yogurt based sauce was traditional; however, the pinkish sauce had a kick, most likely from chipotles! We thought they complemented each other well. SInce Vindaloo was not an option I ordered the same as my partner: chicken tikka masala. Again, the sauce wasn't quite like traditional Indian curry but not that far different. What was significantly different was the amount of sauce provided - just enough to cover the well-cooked chicken. Indian restaurant's are generally very generous with the curry sauce which I missed. The basmati rice was served with an ample amount of saffron which was great! Paratha was not available only Nan but they did offer something they called butter nan. It was somewhat like paratha, that is fried in butter, but the flour was slightly different than the traditional - again different but enjoyable. As has been are experience so far in Mexico City, the service was friendly and efficient. So, although we thoroughly enjoyed are meal, we prefer traditional Indian and for that reason only would not return. read more

Welp. Indian food in Mexico City? Yeah, sure, why not. Had no idea what to expect, but the food here was pretty bleeping good. The Rogan Josh, Tandoori, and Masala were well made. That being said, I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants in the U.S. and Europe, and I think this place comes in the middle of the pack. Tasty food but nothing super extraordinary. The dishes were not really authentic Indian Masala style it was more curry powder based dishes. Pretty average unfortunately and the dips dishes had dried sauce on the perimeter of the dishes as if they had sat in the fridge like that for week. read more

the first time i went to this place i ordered a shrimp curry and was really, seriously underwhelmed. I would say i was even crushed, after such high hopes for good indian food. but, my friends convinced me to go again and they were right. i had the butter chicken and an eggplant curry with naan and both were spectacular. i dont even really like eggplant but i wanted to inject this eggplant dish it was so good. still wouldnt order the samoasas, and the menu is obviously a little more hit and miss than i would prefer. but definitely if you order right, is very very tasty. read more
