The place is a great stop! Small menu makes the choices easy. Pull up in line and stay in your car. Place your order with the attendant (I think it was the owner). Wait patiently. Pay and Pick up food at the truck. Eat and enjoy. My husband really enjoyed the Cali burrito. We actually went by a couple nights later but they were already closed, it was about 9:30pm on a Sunday. This place has some of the BEST asada I've ever had. Al pastor is my usually my favorite but it was not the winner at this location. The chicken taco and chorizo tacos stole the show. read more

Driving down briasway Santa Maria on a Friday or Saturday night there is usually a food truck on every ock. BUT the only truck with a line wrapped around the block is Vaqueras! One of my favorite lunch trucks in town! Love their set up, you drive up, order and they hand you your food, no need to get out of your, this is a plus for me, customer service has always been courteous, when the owner is there he interacts with all driving up. This is my spot!!! I been coming here for a cool minute now and I'm glad they're still around. I personally loved them more when they are in the food truck than when they were in the restaurant. That place was a good idea but it just wasn't consistent. But overall the food truck is solid because the owner is always there. He's honestly a good guy. I'm glad his business survived through covid and everything. When they did open up they were only taking cash and the owner was nice enough to give some deals on the foods than usual but I just end up using that extra money for tip cause I know it was a hard time for them and other small businesses. The food! Fire! My go to is the Cali burrito. They use these thick fries and a good amount of asada. Slightly could use a little bit more guacamole but it's all good. It's a pretty big size. After a couple years of barely coming here I had to try everything on the menu and I loved when they had the shrimp tacos on fridays. That place used to be packed for them tacos and the fries. I wasn't too fond about the shrimp fries because they were just too much beans than the shrimp. But I loved the surf and turf burrito. This is TASTY! The food here is solid stuff, I haven't found a bad thing on the menu. I just think the prices are kind overpriced. So that's why I only come here every so often. read more

First time here Wed, I was curious so ordered the chicken and al pastor tacos. 3 tacos took 45 min wait so I thought it would be worth the wait. but while the wait couple of ppl did mention they are best known for their Cali burrito. Anyhow, after 45 min waiting and seeing ppl who ordered after me get their orders first makes me think they really don't have a system down, and also saw what seemed to be friends of the owners, drive up & got their food express. You order at the counter and then you can either take a number and sit down at a table or you can get the order to go. I got the burrito to go and it was ready very quickly... Straight up, this is coming from a preference and does not speak to the flavor of the food. I'm always craving carne asada/Cali fries and a few of my friends recommended this place. I came on a Tuesday night and got my relatively quick. I love that the fries were spritzed with a little bit of lime! Added a new dimension of flavor. And they didn't skimp on carne or cheese. YES. BUT. I hate thick cut fries. The fries they use are steak fries. Which is good I guess for holding up against the greasy meat and guac. Honestly I probably won't come back. First time I went here, it was because everyone was talking about it. The first few things I ever ordered were the shrimp tacos, and a carne asada burrito. They came out great.... orrr at least I thought they did? Maybe I was just excited to try this taco truck people raved about and got caught up in the whole thing... Don't get me wrong.... the quality of the meat does stand more compared to the other taco trucks nearby. However, I prefer my quesadillas firm, crispy, and not oozing with greasiness. You get a HUGE serving, but you also end up with a puddle of grease at the bottom, and the soggy tortilla starts separating... it wasn't good at all... The burritos are large, and you get a lot for $5. They don't stand out from other burritos that you can get elsewhere.... but it's good for what you pay, and definitely worth it if you're hungry. Nothing special, but very satisfying On a much brighter note, the shrimp tacos are a hit. You can't go wrong with those, but they only serve it certain days. This is a unique taco and the execution is different than you might expect (is that cheese on my shrimp???)... but it works! Also, for you non-cash carrying customers.. they do take electronic payment! you do have to pay the tax/transaction fee or whatever it is, but it's not too bad. I would just try to have cash on you so you pay with nice round numbers... makes things easier. PLUS they almost ALWAYS have someone who can speak/understand English... makes things so much easier when you want to tweak your order a bit. Definitely good.. Seriously the BEST taqueria style Mexican food on the Central Coast! I have been coming here for the last year since being introduced to it by some friends. It's a taco truck (actually a trailer) and we know the common nick names many give these "coaches" but I can assure you this is one of the most cleanest, newest and top of the line food truck. I have no worries eating street food of this beauty. The food is simply amazing. I usually go for my favorite, a carne asada burrito that is huge, moist and packs so much flavor. Most places can't get it right like Vaqueras, often serving dry and pre-cooked taco meats sitting in a steam table. The food taste like it was made to order. On occasion I will order what they are famous for and that is their shrimp tacos. In addition to the amazing food, I give them a plus for their beautiful trailer, friendly service and the value for your dollar. Five bucks and you have a huge burrito that is generously packed with meat. They are usually located in several areas on the North side of Santa Maria but often change through out the night. I have no problem hunting down this truck as I know my reward will be worth it! read more

Living in Santa Maria the options for dinner to late night food options become more scarce as time progresses. There are tonnes of taco trucks here in town and choosing one is rough especially if one has had a bad experience at a previous location. The Vaqueras name has been known to be the best, but I decided to pay a visit to the restaurant location rather than the truck. I was getting my monthly haircut and my barber asks me if I have had anything from Vaqueras yet and I reply, "No, but I can't wait." He went along and said, "Bro. What are you waiting for? There is a burrito the size of your arm." I immediately jumped out of the barber chair and ran to Vaqueras which was thankfully in the same shopping center and dude let me tell you. Ethos I think the food in vaqueras is really good. I know the people who work there and there kithchen is really clean. I can always see the inside of the kitchen and see that they are very sanatary. I enjoy eating there shrimp tacos with the nice hot, mealted cheese. Logos Vaqueras is a good place to go eat with your friends. They have some giant burritos that they have to cut in half to fit it in the plate. They have good prices on there tacos and burritos wichakes it affordable. Pathos They have the biggest burrito in town. You need to pray to be able to fit it all in your stomach. The taste of the california burrito is heaven. I was so disappointed as I saw the Vaqueras truck sitting in their usual Saturday night spot with the lights turned off. Upon further investigation, they were having trouble with their generator and I had to go without their unbelievable shrimp tacos that night. It has been haunting me for a week. Their food is really good, and the people you meet while waiting to receive your curbside cuisine makes the experience even better. Their shrimp tacos are an absolute must. Be careful, though. Try any other shrimp taco after tasting those from Vaqueras and you'll be left disappointed. Check this family operation out! They have quite a bit going for them in the food department. read more
