I've been searching for a great (not good) eyebrow place. After all they are my eyebrows and to me the eyebrows truly are what frames and defines your face. With that being said I was walking in the mall and I literally was stunned by this girls eyebrows. They were perfect, the color the shape everything. So like a stalker i followed her to ask where she got her brows done. She told me this little place on Ventura called Vanity, and I had to go to Christine. So literally within the hour I was googling Vanity and calling to make an appt. I'm always a bit hesitant just because so many people always have a different idea of what eyebrows should look it. The day of my appt I walked in and the place was inviting, comfortable and super cute. Everyone was busy and the place was buzzing with girls beautifying themselves. I loved it. I got there a little early and while I was waiting there was a woman who worked there asking If I needed anything waxed, So of course I said YES! I walked to the back of the shop and had Lisa wax my lip and my nose ( yes my nose, and it didn't hurt!) it was actually pretty awesome. I swear I can smell better now! Haha Once I was done, Christine was ready to start Tweezing away (Perfect timing) I sat in her chair and we talked about what I wanted and what she thought was best for my face to enhance my features. 30 mins later I walked out of vanity looking and feeling amazing, if I may say so myself!!! I literally got compliments when I stopped at the Starbucks next door. It made me feel so good. I couldn't stop staring at my brows, I looked like a better version of myself. This modern trendy space in Sherman Oaks is adorable. I recently went in and booked an appointment with Angelina to get lash tinting. Angelina is friendly, pleasant and professional. I'd never had this procedure done, but she immediately put me at ease as to the safety of my tender lashes. To my surprise she not only did a wonderful job on my lashes, but also perfectly sculpted my eyebrows. I am extremely picky about my eyebrows and they were perfect-exactly to my liking. Went here for a brow shaping and tint since I nabbed a groupon, but I guess everyone else had an itching to use theirs as soon as I did. Maybe it was the flood of customers that was raising fatigue or maybe I just got the wrong person but I'm a bit disappointed in my experience. Pros: -Lots of street parking. -Gives you good advice for tinting either brow or lash. -Painless. Cons: -Long wait...even if you show up 15 mins early you'll still wait past your appt time. -Brow tint lasted only HALF a DAY! It was estimated to last a week give or take but by 8 it was already gone even though I tried my hardest to protect them from wash or sun! Had them done at 2. -Maybe due to the brow dye first but my brows were crooked. Right side was WAY thinner than left. Plus the trim was uneven. I think the dye hid that. -She seemed extremely tired which made me afraid for my brows. Nicole was sweet and everything, and it might have been a long day for her or an off day or something seeing as how theres so many positive reviews, but all in all I wouldn't come back...not without a coupon again. It's $35 for brows, $45 if you get Christine (the owner) and $15 for brow tint or $25 for lash tint. You're looking to total anywhere from $50-$60 excluding tip for one visit. read more

I went to Denise for a Jr. Miss makeup application. She was very professional throughout the application and thorough - moisturizing first, plucking a few stray hairs from my brows, then adding the makeup. The whole thing took about an hour. The Jr. Miss is advertised for younger clients ("ideal for prom") but was more than sufficient for me (a thirtysomething) and I got tons of compliments at the event I was getting dolled up for. The shop is small, with two makeup application stations and a small area in the back where someone was getting an up-do (they apparently do hair styling in addition to makeup), but was very clean and modern. I had no problem booking an appointment (during the day, midweek) but if you are looking for an evening or weekend, it would be best to schedule far in advance as there are only a couple stations within the shop. There is some metered parking on Ventura, which depending on when you visit, may be unavailable - Vanity is located between Woodman and Fulton, where there are a lot of restaurants, and as I was leaving (at about 4:45pm), my meter was turning into a valet loading area. I've been getting my brows done by her for years and she does eyelash tinting and make up too. (Ask her about the egg sponge for blending makeup) She's been doing it forever and you can tell. I highly recommend her! Oh! and she's airbrushed my make up before which was so amazing. Also Eric and Sarah have both done my hair, and they're amazing. Eric got adventurous last time and he sewed my hair into an up-do with a string and it looked natural and beautiful. Sarah is great with color - she put this stuff in my hair to make it shiny. I am telling everyone to go to them. I'm also addicted to their "hint of mint" lipgloss (not sticky which is hard to find) YAY Vanity! read more

In my neverending quest to find a great eyebrow artist, I stumbled onto Vanity on Yelp. Reviews were good, and the store is local so I made an appointment for eyebrow tinting. I'm half asian and inherited my mother's awfully thin, downward-growing sparse eyebrows, so I figured tinting would at least help me out on those days I went without makeup (no one likes a naked forehead!) Nicole was great, chatty, sweet, easy-going. She made great suggestions on what I could do to help my eyebrows fill out. And the best part is that the tint job cost only $15! While I still fill in my eyebrows (and I knew I would have to, regardless of the tint job), they're shaped beautifully, and I've gotten numerous compliments since. In fact, I went to the new Salon Sine in Studio City for a hair appt the next week, and the stylist was so impressed with my brows. When I told her it only cost $15, she nearly died. She's paid upwards of $85 for a tint! Anyway, go to Vanity. It's all good. read more

Nicole is the best!!!! I will not let anyone else touch my brows. She always colors them perfectly and the shape is always flattering, never overdone and always natural. I had her do my makeup for an event and I was so happy! I don't usually wear more than lipstick and mascara, so I didn't want to look like I went to the Mac counter and tried the new tranny shade of shadow. She totally got my style and made me look like myself but enhanced in the areas I don't know how to enhance. The shop is cute and clean. They sell my fave Voluspa candles and a summer makeup must-have Bare Escentuals mineral powder with SPF. Parking is metered, and there is a valet at True Salon just a couple doors down. read more

I recently used a LivingSocial coupon for a blow dry from Luisa at Vanity. I was apprehensive, because I have not had great experiences when buying services (massages, mani/pedis, etc) from LivingSocial. I was pleasantly surprised! The shop is small but clean and lively. The receptionist was very sweet and helped me to get in touch with Luisa to schedule my blow dry. When I arrived, I felt right at home. Luisa was FAST and did a great job on my hair!! She promised me that it would last through the night and into the next day for my graduation. It did that and then some! I even went out to a club last night! My hair still looked great this morning. She knew how to make my hair look good without it being too done up. She complimented my haircut and my natural hair color. She was so sweet! She seems pretty popular, but works her butt off to accomodate everyone. I will definitely be back for special occasions or for when I just dont feel like doing my hair myself! Great experience! I was bummed out the last time I went here because I found out that Nicole has moved on to Salon True which is just a few doors down. After she does my brows I always get compliments on them. I've never had my eyebrows done professionally before, but I saw a Living Social deal that gave me $15 (from $35 to $20), so I thought I'd give it a try. Getting an appointment was no problem, and, though another reviewer complained about the wait, I had absolutely NO wait; I was even a few minutes late, but they took me right away anyway. There's ample street parking around, and it's a clean (if tiny and easy to miss) place. Nicole did a great job--she was friendly, professional, and chatty, which I always find better than having someone who's working on you do it in silence. She plucked and filled my brows, and for the first time I have well-groomed brows! I don't know if I'll pay $35 in the future to get it done, but my introductory experience was great. read more

I've been seeing Christine now for 10 years. It amazes me how eyebrows can change the way you look. I have blonde eyebrows, so when they're not shaped and tinted, they are pretty much invisible. When I see Christine, I feel so much more put together, and not washed out. Let's put it this way.. she is so good, that I will not see anyone else and drive all the way from San Diego to see her! Tried Vanity Cosmetics for brow shaping and tinting because I had a Group On. The young woman who did my brows (not the owner) was very nice but plucked my brows way too thin. It looked like my brows had been penciled on when she finished. The tinting was also darker than what I wanted. If you are clear about what you want and say it, I'm sure they would be fine. I was there for the first day of the Group On. I think they told me they already had enough appointments for the rest of the year. I'm sure they've just been totally overwhelmed. . read more

This place ROCKS! I HIGHLY reccommend this place. I have being seeing Nicole "Nikki" for the last 6 months (more or less) and I am utterly impressed with her work and professionalism. She does my eyebrows and I only wish that I knew of her sooner. Before coming to Vanity, I would drive all the way to Pasadena, which is a good 40 miles for me. I was seeing this one lady for at least 6 years, but always felt she was waxing my brows too much. Nicole doesn't use hot wax, she plucks every single stingy hair from my eyebrows. I feared that getting my eyebrows plucked would not only hurt, but make me look either gay or Jersey Shore. About after 10 minutes of sitting in the chair we were done, it hurt a little, though I'm not used to having my face or any part of me waxed, but in the end I couldn't tell much difference. So I have been going to Louisa for haircuts and updos since PROM. And, um, that was THIRTEEN years ago... and she just did my hair for my wedding, and my brother's wedding! There is NO ONE else you should be going to for updos. She will make sure your hair lasts all night long, yet doesn't rely on seventeen tons of hairspray to go the job done. She loves her work, and it shows. She also does an amazing job on cuts. My last cut with her, I got so many compliments including that I looked like a movie star! She's super fast and always on time, and very easily accessible. She also does a great job on color - I haven't started coloring my hair yet (waiting to go greyer than I am now) - but I've seen her work on friends and family so she's truly an all-around great stylist. Totally recommended. And she's not a diva. She won't force her own style on your hair. And she's super funny when she starts to tell you her stories... ;) I've recently started relying on Christine for eyebrows, and she does an amazing job. Yes, $40 is a bit steep, but to me it's worth it on rare occasions because she's the ONLY professional I've ever gone to who can get to those short stubborn brows. I don't think she goes too thin for my preference, but I guess thicker brows are trendier now. I'm sure she'd do what you like.
