I asked for a full bayalage with a darker color underneath and a shadow root, she said a shadow root wouldn't look good......I got hylights and put under the dryer with foils in my hair, my hair was totally over processed and she was not gentle while brushing through it. I also had to fix her cut because there was shelving through my layers. As a result, 70% of my blonde was the tone I wanted but the other half was very yellow and I was told to "use that purple shampoo." As a hair stylist myself, my end result was very achievable only if she would've taken the time to do it:( definitely wouldn't recommend her to anyone.

Mychel did an incredible, no amazing, job with my hair transformation. The shine and vibrancy when in the sun just leaves me obsessed with my color. I moved away from my home city for a job and a couple months later Mychel moved north too! Talk about perfect because we know how hard it to find a person that you trust with your hair/body!!! Received Brazilian Blowout, hair dye, and a cut. I spent a lot of money and time on Thursday…read morethinking I would get something so beautiful, just like the pictures, but I didn't. I mentioned at least 4 times about darker dye and how it chemically burns my scalp, but I was told all color dyes are the same and that Mychel uses all-natural products and promised it wouldn't be so dark. Well, it's exactly what happened. My scalp is on fire, and I'm having an allergic reaction to the darker dye. My haircut looks horrid and not like any of the pictures I showed for inspo. Sadly, an epic fail all the way around, and headed to urgent care. My hair has never been so short. It will take a couple of years to regrow it. Even asked afterwards when we could correct it and get the color changed. I've been ghosted..whatever

So we've tried shops around town. several in fact. all to walk away either disappointed in the service OR in the final product- most of the time both. Then yesterday, we found our forever home for haircuts. Kandy- was absolutely amazing. My son had been wanting to perm his hair (thank you Patrick Mahomes for that inspiration). Kandy said "Dude, you don't need to perm your hair, you just need to do this:" and she proceeds to show him exactly how to style his hair to get the desired results. From the decor inside (It feels pretty rad to be honest), to the honest service about hair needs and how to do it, to the great conversation with Kandy... I really can only give this a Billy Bob 10. "I give it a ten... a ten... a GODDAMN TEN!" Did I mention she has beer in the fridge for people?!?! Did I mention that she had some good tunes going on?!?! Did I mention that Kandy gives a shit about her clients... like a lot?!?! Seriously, absolutely thrilled to have found Kandy and Eye Kandy... we will be clients for a long long time!

I started going to Kylie many moons ago…read more Before I found her, I always just shaved my head at home. So heading in, I had zero idea what style I wanted. But Kylie being the hair extraordinaire that she is, got me headed down the right path. (Although, I don't recommend this for everyone. If you go in with NO idea and just say cut it...you better be happy with anything you get that looks at all decent). The parking is a blessing and a curse at Kylie's. First off, it's amazing that there is a parking lot at all in this neighborhood. Probably 90%+ of the businesses in the area you just park on the street. With that said, it obviously fills up. So just be ready for that. The shop itself is in the back of Estes clothing store. So if you have never been before, just walk towards the back and you will see it. Try not to be distracted by the awesome selection of ties in the shop! The environment is very classy and laid back. Two leather massage chairs to use while you wait (if you even need to wait). A fireplace, a TV, a great selection of magazines to read. You will most likely be offered something to drink. Kylie almost always has wine and other yummy options. Another blessing and curse: This is a very dog friendly barber shop. So if you love dogs (like I do) then you will probably be in dog heaven during many trips to Kylie's. If you are allergic to dogs, then I recommend contacting Kylie first or something. But all of Portland is very dog friendly. So you are probably used to these types of things if dogs make you go ACHOO! Kylie's cutting style varies. My hair is very short. I have seen her cut dudes hair that is longer and super styled. And she has also cut my wife's hair many times. So she obviously knows what she is doing in many different situations. The pricing is just right. $20-$40 depending on shampoo and scalp massaging. Considering this is a one woman show, I think that is pretty decent. This is not an impersonal, factory line, non-relaxing hair cut like chains. You can check out her schedule and make appointments online using Schedulicity. This is SOOO helpful in planning when to go. My wife and I live out in the burbs and we like to know in advance when we should go especially if we want our hair done before a specific date. One last note based on my wife's input: As I mentioned, I've been going to Kylie for a while. When I first started dating my wife, there was for sure this sense of, "This girl cuts your hair and massages your scalp? Whoa, she is gorgeous. I'm not sure about that." So... dear girl friends and wives: Kylie is not someone to worry about. In fact, you should probably just become friends with her. Because she is awesome and hilarious. And now-a-days, my wife has her hair cut by Kylie more than I do! Plus, you can just come and sit in those leather chairs, play with the dog, read magazines and drink wine while your man has his hair cut. Ya know, if you like those sorts of things. :)
