I don't want to talk up this little section of downtown Tupelo or Vanelli's too much for fear of attracting hipsters in Wayfarers who smell of hemp and patchouli beard oil and use worlds like "thrifting" and "90s revival" unironically. However, I truly enjoyed the time we spent in Tupelo and Vanelli's. Everyone we ran in to, both staff and customers, was friendly. It was a Friday night so Vanelli's was busy but we were able to be seated right away and the kitchen was working hard to get everyone's orders out. We got an order of cheese bread and 4 individual pizzas which were WAAAYYYY too much food and then I realized they aren't really "individuals" they are like 12 inches or something. They don't skimp on the toppings and they make a good crust which holds up to those toppings very well. Definitely planning to come back and spend more time in Tupelo and have dinner here again. read more

My overall impression is a bit mixed; I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it. The crust was a highlight--it had a nice texture that was both crispy and chewy, which is exactly what you want in a pizza crust. However, the sauce was a letdown. I believe it had the potential to be delicious, but there just wasn't enough of it on the pizza to make a proper assessment. On the positive side, the pie was generously topped, which contributed to the overall flavor profile. Also , for those going for the first time, you should find a seat, review the menu and then you will need to go to the back counter to order. They will bring the food to you. This process wasn't evident to us so we had to stop someone and ask. In conclusion, I wouldn't discourage anyone from giving the Master-Peace pie a try. The pizza is amazing, but order anything because you can't go wrong here. Vanelli's sponsored my baseball team back in the 80's when I was a kid and used to give us free pizza when we won. I've been ordering here for years. Today I called to ask for a refund to my card on items taken off my pizza. My son had picked up the pizza and the manager (Megan) said she was unable to do so. When I informed her that the pizza was incorrect and that the cucumbers in the salad were spoiled, she offered to comp me a free side salad. I explained to her that I had been ordering for years with Vanelli's and have had my items removed before with no problem. She goes on to tell me that SHE has been the manager for 2 years and that SHE implemented the ordering system and SHE knows for sure she can't do what I am asking. When I told her to forget about taking the items off the pizza and the difference in how to order it so that the order comes out fair (saving me .10) and go on to remind her that the pizza was incorrect and that the cucumbers in my salad were spoiled, that's when she offered to just comp the side salad. I told her not to worry about the side salad comp, because thank you, but you've lost my business -- not because I didn't get my money refunded, but because of the snarky attitude. From the very minute that I called to ask a very simple question, Megan's snarky attitude turned my attitude extremely sour. Lastly, after I got off the phone with Megan, her dad called me back. He wanted to remind me that his daughter has been working there at Vanelli's for 2 years. Mike didn't tell me if he was an employee, or another worker, or what. I can tell you this. Happened upon this place in the downtown district after we decided to take a short trip off the highway driving back home from Auburn. The food was delicious and the owners were so nice and served amazing home cooked food. They have a buffet or you can choose from the menu. I opted for a meatball sandwich and it was delicious!
