I turned to Yelp and read through numerous reviews and felt that AB Auto Upholstery was right choice. I drove over and spoke with Abel, who I found very friendly and knowledgeable. He looked the area over, confirmed they could do the repair, quoted me a price, and even said that they would do the work on a Saturday. It took about 3.5 hours to repair the damaged area on my seat and it looks absolutely brand new. I am pleased with the quality of the work and how the color matches (keep in mind this seat has about eight years of wear, so the color is a tad brighter because of newness only). After doing some online research I assumed it was a fairly straightforward repair, so I stopped by Arroyo Brothers Upholstery for a quote. I mentioned that I'd happily pay around $100 if it was simply a matter of dropping the rear of the headliner and tightening the 10 mm retaining nut. The owner, who told me he'd been in the business for 40 years, laughed and said the entire headliner would have to come down, it would take half a day, and the job would cost $285. That didn't sit right with me, so I decided to get a second opinion. I took the car to AJ's Upholstery, and the experience couldn't have been more different. They confirmed that only the rear portion of the headliner needed to be lowered, accessed the antenna bolt without any damage or creasing, tightened it up, and had me back on the road in just over an hour. Total cost: $100. In my case, that's a $185 savings, about 65% less than the original quote. I'm not suggesting every shop has to charge the same, but this experience reinforced the value of getting a second opinion before committing to an expensive repair. The shop reupholstered my front and back bench seats in a 60's era stock looking black vinyl, which is exactly what I was looking for. The new seats made my car come alive. Had my boat done about three years ago. Also had my cover cut to fit by these guys. They did not…read morecut the cover right and I took it back. I could not tie it down as it would not tighten and left a pond after each rain. I tried to take it back and Carlos was tough to deal with. He would not admit there was a mistake and I would have to bring the boat back in. All the cover needed was the cuts on each side extended about four inches and sewn up to allow for the tower. I had to go out of town For work on a three year site. I would empty the cover and move it around every now and then but jsut gave up. So now the inside is destroyed, the cover is destroyed ($1800), and the seats are destroyed ($4000). It's funny though, I had them covered most of the time except the very back and you can see in the pic the seam has given way already. Looked good when new. They are nice until there is an issue. I did try and get it fixed right away and there was an issue with getting it in and then I left for the job site.
