I began my landscaping adventure with plants I bought from Home Depot. It didn't take long for me to learn why they had the warranty. I'm sure they bank of people just being too lazy to dig up plants and take them back... I gave Vander Pol a try when I was looking for a unique centerpiece that wasn't a stereotypical palm. I was SHOCKED when I saw that everything I'd bought from Home Depot was 10-25% lower at Vander Pol. Along with the lower prices, the size and health of plants from Vander Pol were better as well. I've looked at Lowes and can only speak for their prices. All higher than Vander Pol as well... Kim, John, and Marie have been INCREDIBLE along the way. I went in with a vision, and they helped with me find plants that would help me get there. I never felt like they pushed me toward the expensive plants either. I've made 5+ trips now. Nearly every time I've gone with a budget of $100 - 150 and come out with plants I loved with budget to spare. Today I was passing by and stopped to ask for guidance with plants I'd bought last summer. Even though I didn't buy anything new, they were happy help. I feel like I've built a relationship with Kim, John, and Marie that you just don't get much of anymore. I've read so many websites and lost count of how many YouTube videos I've watched. Most of the info they agreed with, but when they didn't, they took the time to explain easier and/or more effective methods to grow and maintain my plants. I don't know what Vander Pol's warranty is, but under their guidance, anything I lose will be from harsh weather or my own neglect. I've gone back to Home Depot a couple times for plants, but it was to take advantage of their warranty while the plants from Vander Pol have thrived. I can't say it enough. The service at Vander Pol can't be beat. I began the yard with 3 potted plants and I've built a back yard paradise with a lot of unique plants that were less than I expected that I'd never knew existed. They'll even special order if need be! Go ask Home Depot to do that and see how loudly they laugh... Thank you again Kim, John, and Marie. We bought 2 trees from them and had them delivered and installed. Within a few weeks they were not looking good. I have called 4 or 5 times and am always told someone will call me back or someone will come out and take a look. Nobody ever returns my calls.Now they are dying. I guess they don't care once they have your money. read more

I needed some plants that were able to be a fence. The areca palms were suggested. I should've done my research before though, seeing as I'm from the North. I didn't know that they grew extremely tall and I would need a lot more than 4 to actually do what it is that I needed to do to create a fence. I do love their look and decided to keep them in pots so they don't grow to tall. I also did a combo by adding different color vinca's to them. I enjoyed this nursery, they are just pricier than some. read more

John helped us make our pool area look amazing. It was hard work but he gave us a detailed run down on what we needed. I have included the before, during and after photos. It will take some time but the plants will grow and fill in. Today we are doing the other side of the pool and out front of our house. Expect more reviews and pictures. Oh and the best part, no one acted like a sales person and hounded us to buy this and buy that. It was a very relaxing experience. We will be back for more. read more

4 minutes ago-Edit Don't trust these people! I paid them to install a Hong Kong Orchid and when it developed hundreds of ugly 8" long seed pods recently I realized they actually sold me a purple bauhinia! The Hong Kong orchid is a STERILE hybrid of the purple bauhinia (no ugly seedpods). This is documented on Wikipedia and the University of Florida. I asked them to please remove the tree and install the Hong Kong Orchid listed clearly on my invoice but she refused and laughed at me! The best she'd do is get me a new tree that she wouldn't guarantee is a sterile tree either plus I'd have to pay to remove the old tree (which will cost me $150), plus I'd also need to hire someone to install the new one! I'll never go to Vanderpol's again. read more

Sometimes you just want some landscaping that wow's the neighborhood. Well, that is NOT what we got at Vanderpols nursery. I was very disappointed at the layout of plants. There was no creative thought put onto this landscaping. No individual "beds" were created to give you any kind of visual creativity. What we got was a big mulch bed with some plants randomly placed. The quality of plants were poor and undersized. We found healthier looking plants at Home Depot at a much lower price. In the beginning they said they would do our sod but I guess they no longer wanted that part of the job because, they pawned the job off to someone else. If you want a landscape that is creative with design, I would look else where. read more

I was skeptical about using Vanderpols nursery for a massive landscape design due to the one negative review I read on Yelp. After looking at local home improvement stores, I knew my only choice was Vanderpols. I can not say enough good things about my experience. I am beyond impressed by the customer service, design, and timelines of this local small business. Working with Richard, Kim, and John has been like stepping in a time machine to a place when people treated their customers like family. I ordered over 100 items for a new garden bed around my pool. Plus I ordered 7 yards of mulch. The install on the beds was a fair price but I wanted to save money and do the install myself. I like to garden so this was not a big deal to me to do the install. Vanderpols was so nice about me wanting to do this myself. Most people would have dumped the 100+ items on the driveway and left it there. Not Vanderpols! I came home from work on a Friday afternoon to see the plants are strategically placed in their pots in my garden bed to reflect the design John had created. WOW! That was going above and beyond for sure. As soon as I finished the install, I called them to let them know I was a ready for the mulch. That day after work I came home to my gardens completed with mulch. Additionally, the plants that I did not end up using in my garden, they took back with no questions asked. I payed 1/3 of the amount up front and paid the final after the completion of the mulch. All of my plants are healthy and doing great. I am so pleased with my experience at Vanderpols. I hope big business does not run out these rare hometown small businesses in the future. We need more places like Vanderpols!! read more
