What I want to say is that I have known Lyle Dueck for more than thirty years and he is not only one of the best designers that I have ever met but he is also one of the most ethical people in the business. I have worked with him in the early 80's both in Vancouver and Los Angeles. I am sorry for Karia and I do not know the story and neither did I ask Lyle. I am not emitting an opinion on what did or did not occur but if I had anybody design a kitchen for my wife and me, I would go to Lyle without reserve. I hope things got resolved eventually and we have to remember that there are always two sides to a story. As a disclaimer I want to say that I am a Designer of high end kitchens in West Hollywood, with projects in Beverly Hills, Bel Air and gated communities around Los Angeles with more than 35 years in the Kitchen industry.

While I was very happy with the design of the kitchen, (considered two stars but no, I'm too upset over the treatment we have received) my husband and I have not been happy with the paint on our expensive wood cabinets and had Nickel's service person over (finally) on June 30 this year. They flat out told me they were not standing up well, took photos, and said we would hear back from him very soon with their plan to fix it. (Cabinets 4 and a half years old, only two people who are very particular and careful which the service person said was obvious, and we are here only six months of the year). I then let Lyle know what they said, and asked him if this problem wouldn't just repeat itself, and his answer was: "no, they have a better paint now and they will take care of you." I first contacted Lyle about the cabinet issues two years ago, with several emails last year, and we finally got the above service call this summer. This summer after the service call, when not hearing from Nickels cabinets for several months despite the assurances I received, I sent several emails to Lyle (which he failed to even have the courtesy to respond to) so I finally asked my designer to assist, and due to her we were told yesterday that Nickels now suddenly can't see a problem with the paint. The classic run-around. This was the complete opposite of what the Nickels service person said when he was here. Now Nickels want Lyle to come here to assess the problem - excuse me, I stayed home a whole day for Nickels own trouble shooter and Lyle has had two years to come here and see what the problem was? No thanks. They have achieved their objective because I would rather pay to have them redone than deal with people like this, however I would like to warn other people not to expect their "dream" kitchen as I did because they will be sadly disappointed and disillusioned. I thought that having a cupboard contractor meant that you wouldn't have to deal with this crap. Apparently not. Will now have the huge hassle of finding someone GOOD and having them redone at our own cost as we refuse to even think about dealing with either of these companies any further. We are so unhappy with these cabinets. If you want cabinets that are all shiny behind every handle and in other places too, and a terrible service response, be sure and contact Westwerk and/or Nickels cabinets.
