Let me start by saying I will never be a Yelp regular here. I only come here once a year in May to…read morebuy flowers and I've done that for almost 20 years. I think that makes me a regular in non-yelp land, though. Their flowers are always spectacular! They have things you'd never find anywhere else and their prices are pretty fair. Higher than Walmart & Lowes but they have way better stuff. I'm a green thumb kind of girl. I love being creative on my flowers and making something unique and pretty that I can really enjoy and be proud of all summer. It's just fun for me and I get into it. I've noticed the past 2 years that they are making up far more baskets, window boxes, and pre-potted ready to go mixes of plants in pots. I'm sure this appeals to many people and they make more money selling their ready to take home & just add water mixes. Unfortunately, they are using their best basket starters for these and leaving far less for the adventurous gardener (aka me) to really work with. I walked the aisles of the greenhouse today looking at amazing plants I would have loved to buy but they were only available in a pre-made grouping. I've made wonderful baskets and pots in years past using their basket starters that I loved and I feel like I just got my wings clipped! As a result, Mussig's got their 5 star review clipped to a 4. I really hope there's more to choose from next year.

If you want to take a hay ride into the fields you must go on the weekends. You pre-pay and select what type of tree you wish to get (Canaan's are great) then grab a provided saw, or bring your own and get on the hayride to the field. You can also take your dog(s) if you want! After you're done and get on another ride back to the barns, once there they put your tree on a shaker and wrap it in twine for transport home. Afterwards you can partake in shopping at the gift shop, buy fresh made kettle corn, or grab a drink and snack at the concession shop. This place get's very busy, but the wait times are never too long. If you prefer you can always purchase a pre-cut tree or a plantable Christmas tree, too!

Many of you old timer Pittsburghers will know this place as Dambach's Nursery. I have such fond memories of heading out early on crisp November mornings with my Dad and his trusty ancient hand saw to drive to, then very rural, Fombell, PA, which is a few clicks from fabulous downtown Zelienople. Some years we had to don our snow boots and others a light jacket. Plenty of parking (it's a farm so it's muddy - wear your muckaluks) and many folks bring their well behaved dogs. They can cart your whole tribe out to the "cut your own" trees on a hay wagon or they have delightful fresh precut trees to select from ranging in sizes from 6-11'. Make sure to bring a tape measure if you want to cut your own because all trees look a lot smaller than they really are out in the big wide open fields. You only make THAT mistake once (we had to trim almost 6" off one year). It makes for a great day and lovely memories. Check them out!

I may or may not have place settings for twenty-seven people. I never tire of the tent sales, factory tours, seconds room, main room, and so on. I haven't met a piece of Fiestaware I don't like. The folks who work here are so genuine, like the product they put out. A true family of employees with the same love and obsession as people like me. Homer Laughlin introduced Fiestaware in 1936 and I even have pieces that were my grandmother's. Annually they come out with a new color and I look forward to it every year. All pieces are made here in the factory in this small WV town about an hour from Pittsburgh. The dishes and accessories are durable and last decades. Pieces made between 1936-1972 were made with a radioactive red glaze (worth a fortune now for mad collectors like me). Fear not, the modern-day pieces are lead free. I'm an absolute maniac for Fiestaware and Homer Laughlin (actually have items from their other lines as well). Love love love love. Fiesta Forever!!
