I really wanted to like Van Rossum more than I did, but alas, it's only 3 stars for me. I love how Van Rossum looks. Its outside appearance is beautiful and what initially caught my attention. I stopped in for lunch recently as was impressed by the decor and open, earthy interior. Inside was just as lovely as its outside appearance.
We were greeted by a friendly server and placed our order for cheesy bitterballen and crispy chicken bites (they were fancy nuggets). I also ordered a frozen daiquiri. We just wanted a quick snack, and the food we ordered was good and hit the spot. I had some issues with the frozen daiquiri, however. It wasn't frozen, nor was it a daiquiri. It seemed like a martini on the rocks of some sort. It tasted as if it had gin, which is not an ingredient in a daiquiri. We asked the server what the drink was and she it was what I ordered from the menu. There was a little back and forth, and looking up the recipe for a daiquiri. They tried to address the drink issue and sent me the same drink twice, even though I told them not to worry about it. They were adamant about addressing the issue. I appreciate that, even though I really didn't care for the drink they kept sending.
So service is A+, food was solid, and I'd go back in the future to have an actual meal one day. But I won't order the daiquiri from the menu. read more
