Surviving first day back to school deserves celebrating so I decided to reward myself with an ice cream cone from Van Leeuwen. I had previously visited their NORA District location in West Palm Beach and really enjoyed it, but I think I love this Delray Beach location even more. Van Leeuwen has been around for quite a while. It was founded in 2008 in New York City by brothers Ben and Pete Van Leeuwen along with Laura O'Neill. The trio launched the business from a bright yellow food truck serving artisanal, high-quality ice cream. They quickly gained a loyal following thanks to their simple, premium ingredients and creative signature and seasonal flavors. Today, Van Leeuwen has grown to more than 70 scoop shops across the country, and its ice cream can also be found in grocery stores nationwide. This location is in Sundy Village on Swinton Avenue in Delray Beach. Sundy Village is a new, seven-acre mixed-use campus at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Swinton Avenue, often referred to as the "Gateway to Atlantic Avenue." It blends historic preservation with modern Class A office space, restaurants, and retail shops. One of my favorite features of Sundy Village is that the Delray Beach Historical Society has placed plaques on many of the historic bungalows, sharing the year they were built and a little about their history. Van Leeuwen occupies the beautifully restored 1925 Thieme House, originally built as the home of contractor and builder John I. Thieme. After his death, the house served as a rooming house before being repurposed into the ice cream shop it is today. The interior of this sweet shop is a pastel pink dream accented with a punchy bright yellow countertop. . There's plenty of booth and stool seating inside with additional seating in the garden courtyard beside the house. Van Leeuwen offers a mouth watering selection of classic favorites alongside seasonal and limited-edition flavors. Today they had the traditional chocolate and strawberry along with more unique flavors like Earl Grey Tea. Mango Sticky Rice, and Bigface coffee Affogato. They also have several dairy free options. You can customize your ice cream with sprinkles, syrups, and sauces, and enjoy it in a cone or cup. They also sell pints to take home if you can't decide on just one flavor. After studying the menu, I ordered a waffle cone with Honeycomb ice cream topped with a scoop of Praline Butter Cake. The rich, buttery praline flavor was generously studded with pieces of butter cake. It paired perfectly with the sweet honeycomb, and the freshly made waffle cone. The Van Leeuwen location is a wonderful addition to downtown Delray Beach. I love how a historic home was preserved and is now living a new chapter. My visit to Van Leeuwen also helped me to discover a new area. I am eagerly awaiting some of the other businesses that will soon be opening here. read more

As soon as I walked in, I noticed how bright and colorful the shop was. The walls were covered with fun artwork and writing, which gave it a really welcoming atmosphere. They had both tables where you could sit and chat and stools if you just wanted to enjoy your ice cream. One of my favorite things was the smell of fresh waffle cones being made--it filled the whole shop and was impossible to resist. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and happy to help. Since it was my first visit, I wanted to sample a few flavors. Instead of handing out disposable plastic tasting spoons, they used regular metal spoons that they wash and reuse. It was such a small touch, but I really appreciated the effort to cut down on waste. I ended up getting the black cherry chip, and it was packed with flavor. I added salted caramel and sprinkles, and it honestly made me feel like a kid again. They have a huge variety of flavors to choose from, including dairy-free options, so there's something for everyone. I'll definitely be back to try more! read more

I love the historic bungalows that you find in this part of town. This place was built in 1925... they did a great job keeping the character of the building... the store looks great. But ice cream is the important thing here. While I never developed a pasion for Van Leeuwen in NYC or their supermarket offerings, I have a new found love for it now. They have a great guy serving up the ice cream, he couldn't have been nicer. Offered up a few tastes, which were all excellent. Just the type of service you need for a place at this price point. The flavors they have are interesting, fun, and delicious. We settled on more basic flavors: Pistachio and Black Cherry Chip. Both ice creams were great, excellent flavor, great texture/mouthfeel, perfectly tempered. Yes, the ice cream is on the expensive side... but it delivers in every way! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED read more

NAME HARD TO PRONOUNCE.... While walking along Atlantic Ave a few people told us to try a brand new ice cream parlor in the renovated Sunday Village. The Van Leeuwen (unable to pronounce correctly) ice cream parlor is in a small free standing house with a big outside patio and umbrella shades. They started serving ice cream out of a yellow food truck on the streets of NYC in 2008 and never looked back. The Sunday Village stresses the color white but the inside of this place pops with bright pink interior walls. Several choices of ice cream with three different size cups or the optional waffle bowl. Chose a tiny cup of Praline Butter Cake which was great, but the price was absurd at high $7.50. This fancy parlor only takes plastic so dont even flash your cash unless you're tipping. The gender neutral bathroom had a press code lock to enter which was issued by the scooper lady. The room was spotless with wrap around shiny tile and light purple painted walls. read more

We stopped at Van Leeuwen after dinner last night for a sweet treat. I've been buying their pints from the grocery store for a while, so I was excited to finally check out the actual shop. The location is set in a repurposed little house in the renovated Sundy Village, which gives it a really charming feel. Inside, it's super cute (and very pink), making it a fun spot to stop into. There were four of us, and we each ordered a single scoop. Two of us got the brown sugar cookie dough brownie, one got the black cherry chip, and another got the honeycomb with sprinkles. Everyone was happy with their choice, the flavors were great and definitely lived up to expectations. That said, the scoop size isn't huge, and at nearly $8 for a single scoop, it feels pretty pricey. You can get an entire pint from the grocery store for less, which makes it a bit hard to justify regularly. It's more about the novelty of going in, getting a fresh scoop, and adding toppings if you want. Overall, we did enjoy it, but I'll probably stick to buying their pints from the store for a better bang for my buck. read more

This spot is so cute! The ice cream is soo creamy and delicious too. I ordered the praline butter cake and it's to die for! The right amount of sweetness and crunch from the walnuts. I'm so glad that Van Leeuwen came to Delray! This brand new location just opened up in the newly redone Sundy Village. It's in an old remodeled house with bright lights, vibrant colors, and plenty of seating inside and out. The staff is super welcoming and friendly, offering up as many tastes as you'd like. The ice cream flavors are all super creamy and flavorful, with vegan options and Florida exclusives like key lime pie. This is absolutely my new go to ice cream spot off the Ave! read more

In the Sunday House my hubby and I stopped into the brand new Van Leeuwen ice cream shop. The shop smelled delish and pink painted walls everywhere. Wanted butter pecan but they don't make that flavor. The scooper recommended the praline butter cake flavor as a close second to butter pecan. Went in for our first time recently. Really friendly staff, very beautiful and clean ice cream shop. The ice cream itself though was incredible. I got a scoop of honeycomb and praline butter cake, and my husband got cookies and cream. I loved both of my flavors but the praline butter cake was literally incredible. I've been going to Van Leeuween before they even opened shops and first tried their ice cream when it was a truck parked in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Food trucks can often be disappointing but Van Leeuwen wasn't and it lived up to its initial hype. The Delray store beats eating in the street and it doesn't hurt that the store is nice looking and large. Service was excellent and I tried a few flavors and both were very good. Van Leeuwen has a cleaner more natural taste than other brands and a nice richness. The shop is a welcome addition to downtown Delray. read more

He was doing the best he could but I waited probably 25 minutes for a milkshake and Icecream cone with maybe only 2 other parties ahead of me. The flavor options are amazing. The containers did not arrive in a freezer from Delray in a packed bag, the ice cream was melting once it arrived in Boca.

Very good quality ice cream. I will say the one in NYC seemed to offer more of a variety of flavors but still had very good options.

the sherbet doesn't taste to good or maybe i just don't like the mango sherbet it tastes weird and tastes to bitter
