Food nothing special, expensive for what it is. A bit low standards for the prices. Pretty location, though.

Aquarium - Farro with shellfish and dehydrated caviar

We started with a small amuse buche Parmesan ball that had a magnificent aged, balsamic reduction underneath it. That balsamic was lick worthy! Next they brought a basket of traditional breads and also the ingredients to make bruschetta at your seat: a beautiful burrata wedge that was slightly Smokey, perfectly seasoned garden fresh tomatoes and grilled bread. This was my favorite dish of the evening. Calamari was fresh and light. Not as crispy as we get in the USA but it wasn't as highly battered. The grilled lemons were a great addition, be sure to save them for your dinner. The farro with seafood was well done. It was fishier then many enjoyed due probably to the dehydrated caviar but the grain texture and seasoning was lovely and the shellfish was soft and perfectly cooked. We also had grilled sea bass (not shown) which was fresh and flakey. The dessert made with almond milk was a nice sweet taste to end the meal. Service was spot on, including the wine service. Servers spoke some English which was very helpful. Owners speak fluent English as does the manager. If you are in the area and looking for farm to table definitely give it a try!

By far my favorite pizza in Torre Delle Stelle, Sardinia and I would go as far to say all of Italy! They have a perfect mix of traditional pizza along with creative options. Then you add the ambiance and staff, perfetto!! The grounds are absolutely stunning if you are coming by for a drink, awesome bartender and cocktail menu, or dinner. I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy this spot. I can't wait to visit next year and see what other great additions this team has to offer.

Since it's off season we are having a hard time finding the gems or popular but less touristic places. As we walked by and checked TripAdvisor (sorry Yelp, still a long way to go in some countries) I thought it might be a nice place to try. If you travel this island for some time you might have discovered that there are quite some sh*tholes here and 95 percent of the food is the same. I consider myself a pizza lover and not the greatest fish eater. But after 20 pizzas I thought "what the heck, go fish" just to discover they also had meat. I couldn't control my inner "carnivori" and ordered meat. Got a BIG piece and it was perfect. Also loved the patatos (you have to order everything separately here - don't forget) which was good. Coupled with great wine, good background music and, for the first time here, good waiters (plus their English was better then my Italiani (making the hand gesture while typing this) so that was nice for a change. They could actually tell me something about the food and wine, which is nice since that's a big part of the experience. Last but not least; great deserts and nice roof terrace (which I didn't notice from the street). It's a bit more expensive but it's worth the money. Trust me (I know what I'm doing).

All told, we ended up trying several things on the menu, most of which were very good. We had the truffle and mushroom spaghetti (very good), sea bass (good), horse steak (yes, horse... it tasted like beef and was very good), fried cheese-and-beef-stuffed olives (pretty good), fried mixed seafood (good), a cheesy olive side dish (pretty good), pizza with mushrooms, artichokes and sausage (very good), baby octopus in a spicy sauce (good but a little fishy tasting), seafood risotto for two (excellent)... oh, and a bottle of vino della casa bianco (white house wine) every night, to boot. The wait staff was very sweet and the outdoor area was comfortable and relaxing. We loved our time in Sardinia and always looked forward to our dinners at Primo Piano.

Then the most friendly people of Sardinia just spoilt us completely and we had a late lunch that took the whole afternoon on their great outdoor terrace. The friendly staff looked a bit surprised, maybe it was the time of the day or maybe our beach look and the fact that we asked for any food they could possibly get on the table? But they came back strong and suggested a lot of antipasti and we agreed to it all. We got what we deserved I guess, they started with oysters and some bread and ham, salami, different types of cheese, some kind of lobster starter and a raw salmon starter. Then an extra table was added and they brought us octopus, some very fresh calamari, raw langoustines and a fresh mix of raw vegetables. We agreed to taste their top wine of Sardinia (which was only €18 for the bottle) and this again was super. After this a beautiful chocolate dessert and apple tart was accompanied by a nice Muscat wine (on the house). There were no other people at that moment and we got to meet the whole staff and family that worked that afternoon who were all extremely friendly. We left as friends and will love to come back here. So this is absolutely not just a pizzeria although they do pizza and the owner showed me very proudly the huge pizza oven.

As the restaurant specialises on sea food they offer you the catch of the day (so no/ or not many standards)- you can chose from te fresh seafood which is displayed right in the dining room. They will also recommend you the side dishes that go well with your choice and ask how you like your fish prepared, also whether you liked it after every dish. That may sound normal, but in Cagliari you often get the impression that the restaurants dont really care.So this place is a great exception! The food is prepared with caution and dedication (you can just see it by the way they describe the dishes and handle the meals). They also use products of a very good quality, e.g., amazingly fresh vegetables and very good olive oil (which again is unfortunately not a standard in Cagliari's restaurants). We havent seen many tourists in there (actually none, only locals) and we were not treated as tourists as well- the owner (or manager?) even thanked us personally as we left. Maybe the only difficulty here is that the staff speaks better Italian than any other language, but that is why you are visiting the country, right? the prices are very similar to the ones you find in the other trattorias in the city- but the quality of the food and the atmosphere are by far above the average. We had a very pleasant evening enjoying really great food prepared and served by people dedicated to their job and a heartly atmosphere- actually the best dining experience we had in Cagliari. So get a table and enjoy a great meal!
