I found Ken via a word-of-mouth recommendation and he definitely lived up to the hype. I've been shopping Vanagons for a couple of months now, and when I found one that I was serious about, I contacted Ken to see if he would be willing to go look at the '86 Weekender and do a pre-sale inspection for me. We agreed on a rate (this trip required a bit of a road trip, so he was already going out of his way for me right out of the gate) and a mutual understanding of what I wanted out of the inspection...and he came back with a very thorough report on the overall condition of the vehicle...covering everything from from minor (and major) cosmetics, to virtually all of the mechanicals. From cooling system to suspension, fuel system, engine health, exhaust, brakes, electronics, ECU, etc. Not only did he report back on the condition and current functionality of all of the individual components and systems, but he also provided me with estimates on what I could expect to pay to repair the vehicle (for body work, and for the mechanicals separately) and a narrative of his professional experience with these cars and their typical issues,. Within a matter of 48 hours from initial contact, I received the full inspection report that I requested, and an education along the way. Put Ken on the top of your list for parts, supplies and service for older VWs and Vanagons specifically. He may know about the newer ones too - don't know. All I know is that he is reasonable, knowledgeable and informative. A GREAT HELP! His shop is not really that far away from the Philly area. 1 hour from Commodore Barry Bridge.
