If you're considering booking with LAS Tours, stop thinking and start doing…read more While staying in Lisbon, my in-laws and I wanted to take advantage of our Lisboa Cards and take the train to Sintra for a day trip. It was a rather spontaneous decision over late dinner, so at 11:30 PM or so, I start looking into options and came across LAS Tours. I tried to book tickets through their site, and got an automatic response that I will hear back on my requested booking soon. I was hoping to rent three twizy vehicles to explore Sintra in. Since it was late, and I was not expecting to hear back, I found their tours listed on TripAdvisor, and booked one of the three twizy vehicles we'd need for our group. Before I could book the second, I got a response from Luis at 11:59 pm. Yes you read that correctly, at midnight! He helped me cancel the one vehicle I had booked on TripAdvisor, so I could book directly with LAS Tours as I initially intended, which happened to be at a better price than what's listed on TripAdvisor. We emailed back and forth until about 12:45am to go over all the details. Next morning, I arrived in Sintra, and there is Luis! Does this guy sleep? Sonia got us all squared away. She helped create a route for us based on what we wanted to see, gave us restaurant recommendations, and accommodated us in every way possible. Luis then went over how to drive the vehicle, which is incredibly straight forward and easy. The twizy is a breeze to operate and drive. It can fit into small parking spots which is great when you are visiting sites that draw a lot of tourists. The guided audio provides information as you follow your route, and the directions they provide are very easy to follow. But rest assured that if you go off course or get lost, you'll get a call from Sonia or Luis to help get you back on track since they're able to monitor the vehicle's movements. You can lock up the vehicle, get in and out, and spend as little or as much time at each stop. It's truly incredibly easy and smooth. Also, you can purchase tickets directly from LAS Tours for many of the attractions. It saved us a bunch of time at Peña Palace in particular, as we were able to walk right in with the tickets provided, instead of waiting in the very long line to purchase them prior to entry. Everyone in our group had a great time and agreed it was one of the best ways to get around and see Sintra as a tourist. There is no way we'd be able to cover so much ground and see so many sites without a vehicle, and the twizy was the way to go. It's particularly great on some of the narrow roads, as it's so compact. The butterfly doors also mean that you don't have to worry about someone taking out your door when getting in or out, and you can fit into narrower spaces since you don't have to account for door clearance. I really can't stress enough how accommodating LAS Tours was. It's truly one of the best customer service experiences I've had in my life. They really care about making your adventure as enjoyable as possible and take pride in what they do. The little touches, like taking offering to take photos, providing you with a blanket (it was a chilly morning), and checking in with you are so amazing. I can't say enough good things about them! I LOVED Sintra, more so than Lisbon and Albufeira, even though I really did enjoy all my time in Portugal. LAS Tours made that possible. I will be back, and hope to have another twizy adventure in the not-so-distant future!

First of all, I highly recommend that you ask for Tina as your tour guide. She is so knowledgeable, energetic and kind. You can feel her passion and excitement around Sintra for the entirety of the tour. She also knows the best places to stop and take photos -- Ones that seemed to in the middle of no where but had the best views, I was shocked she was able to find them in the first place! This tour company is also really cool because it drives you around in one of those top-down electric Jeeps. It was a great way to travel a far distance (Sintra is large and hilly!) but to be able to see every single sight. Tina also was able to recommend which spots she thought we should go into to check out and which were better from the outside, so be sure to ask her about that too! When you choose to go into a place, she does not take that time off of your tour with her. Instead, she will leave for a while (i.e. an hour while you tour a space) and then come back to get you and continue your tour together. I recommend at least the two hour tour. Sintra is much bigger than one would think and so many beautiful sights -- You will not want to miss it!

One day she took us through the Belem district in Lisbon (Jeronimos Monastery is a must-see!), followed by a visit to Sintra (I could have easily spent an entire day here, with Pena Palace and its surrounding lush park, plus the charming town center), and the second day we did the "Tiles, Wine & Sceneries" tour (which I highly recommend!). On the Tiles/Wine tour she drove us through an area south of Lisbon, and we fell in love with all the places we visited (Palmela castle, Sesimbra, Setubal, Azeitao and Arrabida natural park). While it's very pretty, there wasn't as much to do as our first tour (Quinta de Regaleria) but they do have extensive gardens. Prepare to walk... a lot! If I could do it over I would have picked Peña Palace to replace it. Still worth a go since the architecture and buildings were very lovely.

It is a dream of "1001 Nights" and must have been a fantastic place to be in its golden days - full of exotic, Indian furniture and in-house palm trees. The palace only got restaurated recently and the works are not yet completed. Unfortunately, it is not planned to furnish the place again - so the visitor is dependend on old photographs to get the real feeling for the former interior. The place is open to visitors and is used for concerts and weddings. The park is not yet back to its former glory but since it is a promising tourist location, some labour and money is being invested to get it back in shape (our visit took place in April 2011).
