When I entered BP we were in search for a quick lunch but was pleasantly surprised to see the selection and display quality of seafood, spices, sweet jams and sauces and desserts. Everything was very nicely displayed behind large see-through glass displays and they had an excellent selection of both fresh and frozen. Also, they had an amazing selection of prepared seafood salads. In the back of the Poissonnerie is a lunch restaurant with a little menu of seafood based items. Giddy with excitement I ordered the Fish and chips trio $12.95 (shrimp, cod and scallops). It came in a very nice light batter and the chips were crisp and light. You could really taste the freshness of the seafood but I was a bit disappointed with the serving size. A little on the smaller side! My work colleague ordered the seafood soup and he was a bit disappointed of the serving size also. However the taste and quality was quite good! Now onto the seafood. I brought back some "famous" Matane shrimp, fresh snow crab (season just started last week), seafood salad and tuna tartar. I planned my pickup in the night time just before 7:00 PM closing. As I have been to the store's at closing time the staff is usually more interested in going home than providing customer service but this was an exception. The two different women helping me were extremely courteous and provided attentive polite service! I was impressed to say the least! They pack your seafood in styrofoam coolers with ice and I was planning on eating it 24 hrs later. When I opened the box it still had some ice! Wow! If I lived in Matane I'd come here weekly but alas I'm more than 600 KM away. Looking forward to my next visit.

English: Le Matelot is one of my longstanding favorite seafood spots in the Rimouski region. The servers are always very kind, and the location is beautiful. Make sure to reserve ahead of time since it is almost always full, and especially if you want one of the tables that looks over the St-Lawrence (the view is incredible). Make sure to get: -Cheesy Garlic Bread (with or without shrimp): 9/10 - SO good, so cheesy, so rich, so delicious. A real treat. -Lobster!!!: Boiled 9/10, Grilled 10/10 - The grilled lobster is absolutely exquisite, as it is less watery and has a more concentrated, smoky flavor. The boiled is absolutely great as well. As someone with NOT a small appetite, I either go for a 2 pounder or for the special with 2 small lobsters (you can get one grilled and one boiled to compare!). Lobster looks big until you realize that there isn't much flesh to actually eat. Dip that lobster into delicious garlic butter and wow, no words. As for sides, they're not the star of the show. The rice isn't super flavorful, their fries are dissappointing, their salad is pretty good though, and you can also get a baked potato with sour cream (boring but does the job to fill you up). -Pudding Chomeur: 12/10 - Do NOT pass this up. I love pudding chomeur so much, and this one comes out warm, gooey, and so homey. The flavor is just like a comforting hug of sweet, caramelized fluffy goodness.

You don't find many of these old fashioned period decorated restaurants these days. This one harks back to a different era and is pleasan charming and comfortable. My eating companion mentioned that they have a set menu (of 6-8 choices) that changes each day and if you get there late your selection may be eliminated by popular demand. Prices are very reasonable and the food is all gourmet home cooked. I had selected the soup to start (sweet onion and cheese) which was very simple yet deliciously rich in flavour. Then I had a salad with the seafood casserole (tilapia, salmon and imitation crab in a cream sauce). It was very generous in seafood and really tasty and rich. I'm not really a fan of Tilapia but in here it was really good! Serving size was perfect! My lunch mate had the pork tenderloin with a mustard sauce with sweet potato and beans. She mentioned the pork was a bit dry but with the sauce it was decent He good! For dessert they had a decadent, rich hazelnut cheesecake that was to die for! First class! The gift shop is a very clever touch! Why not promote gourmet sauces, spices and jams plus other delights before or after your meal. The chocolate shop is even more genius. With so many choc-oholics and a high level of homemade chocolate you could make a fortune here! Really adds to the ambiance (that this is like eating at a vintage premiere moisson only better)! I picked up some chocolates for home and have enjoyed them quite a bit so far! This could be the best restaurant in Amqui and I know I will be back if and when the opportunity returns!
