I lived there for over 9 years. A few years after being there they made us sign a non smoking contract. I did not have a problem, but the older lady below me continued to smoke. The office was told about it and the maintenance people knew. Maintenance hated to go into her apartment.
Through Covid everything changed, I started working remotely. i noticed that I was getting sick, I was at the doctors or walk in clinic at least once a month. I was always on prednisone and inhalers. I started reporting more to the office, they did nothing. I had pneumonia and Covid and when I asked Neighbor not to smoke because I couldn't breathe she called the police on me .
Valley Parks manager wanted me to report it every time I smelled it so they could catch her, they knew she was smoking, my belongings smelled, people came in the building and would complain. Yet sometimes they didn't respond for days
A couple moved in and moved out 3 days later because of it. The girl showing that apartment told them nobody smokes.
The office staff talked about how bad it was with other residents. maintenance had to replace my air conditioner twice because of soot, she sat in the window below my air conditioner. The office assistant told another resident they were going to have to rip the walls out once she was gone. She had lived there 19 years
I had attacks continuously, i broke my leg on Fourth of July weekend, after my face swelling 3 times from smoking, I was so frustrated I stomped on the floor and fell. I had even called the office that Friday and asked what they were going to do.
They said I could move to another apartment, rent went from $1100 to $1650. Another tenants in our buildings lease was up, her rent went from $1350 to $1650, she's an older resident on a fixed income. The girl across from me was a traveling nurse, when her lease was up, they told her to renew it was $2000.
The plumbing back up in our building on 3 occasions, the maintenance tied our front door open for the night without telling us and dumped all kinds of chemicals in the base, it caused all of us to get sick.
I hired a lawyer, this was all during Covid, they took advantage of the rent increase.
Throughout Covid, I never missed a rent payment, I broke it in two installments even though I wasn't making commission, they took me to eviction court over a $95 late fee.
My health kept getting worse. The lady below me had her drivers license revoked, so there would be days she didn't see anyone, all she did was smoked.
Twice her smoke alarms went off, she slept through it, I had to bang on doors to wake her, her apartment was Smokey she was cooking and fell asleep.
Valley Park talked to her daughter, who had to come once a day Mon through Friday for at least 10 mins. to check on her. But nothing changed.
My health deteriorated, they took her finally to eviction court, but I was the only witness, Valley Park didn't even testify. She won. Not a word from Valley Park about me. They ignored me, the lady below started smoking more. It was so stressful.
I finally had to move, I incurred so many expenses, had to get new furniture and as everyone knows rents increased during Covid. They are outrageous. The same week 3 of the four residents in my building moved, me included. They didn't rent my apartment out for a long time
The other day I got a credit alert, they reported me to a collection agency, who reported to the credit bureau.
