Traveler Beware... Recently stayed here while traveling through Colorado and have the following to report: Cons: Price: Base rate + fees + taxes = $150/night! This is a $50/night place at best. Cleanliness: Terrible! Dead flies on windowsill, mold in shower, empty shampoo bottle in shower, and clothing from previous guest upon our arrival. Condition: in need of desperate repairs! Holes in walls, cable box dangling from TV, broken outlets, black spots on mirror. Safety: Pack a gun! Very sketchy area with lots of roaming crackheads. Noise: Loud! Main road is about 50 FT away. Pests: we had a centipede in our room the next morning that must have crawled through the one inch gap at the bottom of the door to the outside! This was one of the only pet friendly spots in Alamosa, CO on a Saturday night that had a room available. I got turned away from 4 places prior to arriving here. $150 for a dingy, sparse room right on a loud, major highway. Its a budget motel.. there is hair here and there, stains and things in disrepair. All that being said what is absolutely most concerning is I was immediately greeted by an overpowering and overwhelming smell of bleach in my room. I would have asked for another room but this was the last room and I couldn't find others in town that allowed pets. Legitimately scared to fall asleep because I don't want to die of bleach inhalation. My eyes are burning and I am light headed. I'm keeping the window cracked and hoping for the best. read more

I have stayed at this motel several times in the past because it was clean and cheap. Under nee ownership now and it is gross. I went to my room and pulled back the sheets and found hairs in the bed along with small debris. Pillow cases were dingy and the walls were dirty. I called front desk and asked for a different room. They gave me a different room and stated "I dont know why this keeps happening". New room was just as nasty. Had pet hair all over the sheets, floors, and comforter. Walls had some sort of splatter all over them. Office had closed for the night. I left and went to hampton inn. $50 more but at least it is spotless read more

One of the worst motels I've ever stayed at, and we have some pretty low standards - if it's clean and I can shower, it'll work. We've stayed in 2-star hotels for the last week of our road trip, and we understand the reality of most 2-stars; however, this motel should be embarrassed to call itself a 2-star. This place didn't even meet the most basic standards. If this is your only option, you'd be better off sleeping in your car. First of all, they are absolutely guilty of false advertising: the pictures they have online do NOT match the state of their rooms. They advertise renovated rooms, but that could not be further from the truth. Room said it was non smoking, but smelled rancid, like old rotting cigarettes. Front desk did not care when we told them, they just said "some people don't listen and smoke anyway." They clearly make no effort to clean it. The bathroom was honestly disgusting: the shower was stained and dirty, with disgustingly caked-on build up on the shower head. The toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. The fridge was gross, it was dirty and smelled and did not work. The floor was dirty, with noticeable dirt and hair in the corners and along the edges. There were poorly patched holes in the walls, and the deadbolt was missing - even worse, the doorframe where it used to be was splintered as if it had been kicked in. We were put into a corner room with the neighboring door less than a foot away, and the people in that room were knocking on their door constantly and loudly going in and out until almost 2am. The walls were so thin, they couldn't have been insulated whatsoever. There were people loitering in the parking lot and outside our door all night, contributing to the noise and unsafe feeling. Since the neighboring door was so close, every time they pounded on it, it sounded like they were knocking on our door, which of course made our dogs bark and startled us. The office was supposed to be open at 7a, but I had to call the number at 7:30a to checkout and it sounded like the guy had just woken up. He also didn't seem to care at all about any of our concerns, barely even apologized. Absolutely awful experience, if you have any standards at all do NOT come here. read more

I agree with other Yelp users. This motel is a solid 3. It has the potential for more stars, but has some issues. The room was large and nicely updated. I was pleasantly surprised. The bathroom had a stall shower, which I've never seen before. However, as I told the manager at checkout, they have cleanliness issues. He offered no apology nor adjustment. The pillow cases were so dirty, we had to turn them inside out. The microwave was dirty with old food in it. The bathroom had strands of hair from prior guests. The TV didnt work, but the manager came and fixed it. The cigarette bucket outside the door was also something Ive never seen before, charming. Surprisingly, Id stay there again. It was a room... bed looked clean. Bathroom was nasty, looked like there was pubes all over the bathroom. There wasn't the swing lock on the door for extra security, which was concerning after we watched some people nodding off in the parking lot for an hour. Pulling up -- or, driving past, because there was no way to turn in -- the parking lot was a construction zone, unclear if the motel was open. Once I figured out how to get to the front desk through minimal danger, things improved. Plus, the trucks and steamrollers were a highlight for my toddler. Nice owners, and good for the price. Comfortable bed. Very basic breakfast. Like every place in town, a bit far to walk to the center. I generally find the full housekeeping treatment unnecessary, but I was surprised they didn't even take out trash, replenish toiletries, and similar. read more

This motel has now made it on to my "Would not stay a night here for a million dollars" list. The heaters in the room were filled with trash, Management was no help at all in accommodating to its customers needs, and to top it off I got a $100 additional charge for sand being in the room. If anyone knows anything about the city of Alamosa they know that the Great Sand Dunes are literally the only tourist attraction in the city. It's common sense that tourist with track sand into the rooms. When I tried calling management I was treated in a very hostile manner. I have been to Alamosa many times and have had great experiences in many of the hotels/motels, but this motel is well below average and is not in anyway worth staying at. read more

This was a great little mom & pop place. You're not going to like it if you expect big fancy continental breakfasts at the Hampton or Comfort Inn. There is a small continental breakfast that includes cereal, coffee, toast, juices, and milk. It's cheap, the beds are clean and comfy, and some of the rooms come with a full kitchen and plenty of room for 4-5 people. It's dog friendly, which is a huge plus - and the fee is only 10 dollars. Alamosa is only 30 minutes from the sand dunes and Zapata Falls. There's plenty of eating places and a quaint little downtown. Overall, if you're not super picky, this motel was clean and a great place to sleep for a couple of nights. We enjoyed it very much. read more

I had a very poor experience at the Valley Motel. Right off the bat, the heater in my room was filled with trash. Whenever I turned it on a burning and smelly aroma filled the room. There were brown stains on my covers. I visited the sand dunes with my friends and naturally brought back some sand in our shoes. It wasn't until after I checked out that received an additional $100 charge for sand on the carpet. You would think that a vacuum would not be worth $100. I was also told that we broke policy by having 8 people in two rooms. But, on the website it clearly states that 4 guests are allowed in each room. When I tried calling the front desk at 12:00am for a possible rollaway bed, I had to wait for over 5 minutes for someone to pick up the phone. They had no roll away beds. I called the management to discuss these issues and I was treated by yelling and a very hostile tone. They say that when you rent a hotel you get what you pay for; however, at the Valley Motel you get less that what you pay for. I recommend never giving this motel your money as I know I never will again. read more

We most likely won't be staying here again unless we absolutely had to.. The rooms weren't exactly "clean" they needed swept and bathrooms could have been cleaned a bit better. The beds definitely weren't comfortable. We stayed 3 nights and we all tossed and turned all night of every night. Also, I understand the whole COVID-19 pandemic so not wanting to have housekeeping coming and going all day but, the rooms really need to be cleaned after the second day of the booking. Our trash had been full, towels were all dirty, and floors needed to be swept so bad. We are in Colorado in the summer! It is dusty and there is sand and dirt everywhere. This weekend it had actually rained and we tracked in stuff to the room, not a lot but enough to accumulate over time especially with 2 adults and 2 young children. On the second morning around 8 am I noticed there was housekeeping outside so I gathered up the towels and the trash and went outside to ask for more bags and towels. I was told they would put them in our rooms. We returned around 3pm and there still wasn't towels or trash bags, our room hasn't been touched and there wasn't anyone in sight. We settled down and had food ordered to our room, we ate and then while putting kids down for naps, we heard 3 loud pounds on the door so I answered and someone who worked for the hotel, not sure who was standing there with something in his hand and started asking extremely loud and rudely what happened to the door and how did this happen and we hadn't one clue what he was talking about. Well apparently a piece from the lock on the door had fallen off. We had no idea what happened, how it happened, or when it happened. So I told him we don't know. He basically barged in and started shoving the thing in the door. And asked when do y'all leave and we said tomorrow morning. He got up and walked out and we never heard anything from him or anyone else in the motel. We never got our towels or bags! It was just a disaster. The previous reviews are pretty much on target for this motel. They cost is very reasonable for those looking for a place to get a good nights sleep. The beds are comfortable and the rooms can be small, but clean and provide the necessities of a budget motel. If you are looking for a place with a pool, big breakfast and room service, then this is not the place for you, but you will likely pay twice the price for it. I like the comfort at night, good TV and a friendly staff. The housekeeper gladly ironed a dress shirt for me for a graduation ceremony for my grandson. I hope this motel and ownership stays in town... I recommend it for the reasons given here. I would go back, plus it is next door to an IHOP with discount coupons for that big breakfast. read more

Don't stay here. Wishing I would have spent the extra money for Hampton Inn. Sheets and pillows have stains on them... gross. Shower curtain is nasty, smells like a wet dog. The shower head is covered with calcium deposits, so there is no water pressure. They used a potent air freshener in the room that I don't care for. Bleh. Won't ever stay here again. 2501 Main St, Alamosa, CO Needed a cheap place to stay for one night in Alamosa, not knowing anything about this place, called and they said rate was $58. Made reservation. Arrived a couple of days later to check in and the said the rate was $68 even though reservation said $58. Rooms are like something out of a 1960's mom and pop motel. Might be better to look elsewhere and pay a few bucks more for better accommodations. Also note that Yelp calls this the Rio Grande Motel but all of the signs at the motel call it the Valley Motel, I think Yelp needs to make a correction as there is another Rio Grande Motel out of town and maybe there is a mixup? read more

My friends and I have gone to Alamosa multiple times and this is by far the worst place to stay in all of Alamosa. The rooms are tiny and the beds are covered in stains. The fan in the room barely works and there is not a lot of space to put anything. You'll feel like you're in a cruddy dorm room. The only reason any one goes to Alamosa is to go see the Great Sand Dunes. If the motel was worried about sand being tracked into the room you'd think they'd supply some sort of way to clean the sand up. But no, instead we were charged an extra $100 upon checking out because they had to clean the sand out of the shower. This is a solid budget motel. Nothing to look at but the rooms are nice and clean. Mine had everything I needed to be comfortable and more - AC, heater, nice fridge and microwave, walk-in shower (which I prefer), table, chest of drawers, coffee maker, flat-screen TV. I asked about a AAA discount and the owner/manager gave me a few bucks off. My room - for 1 person - ended up being $62 plus tax. Wi-fi exists although it's a little on the slow side, but that's to be expected in a budget hotel. The only thing the Valley Motel doesn't have is character. Character is my primary determinant as to whether budget hotels get 4 or 5 stars. Therefore, Valley Motel gets 4. A nice, young Indian family appear to be the owners/managers. Communication was a bit strained over the phone and the exchange could have easily been interpreted as rude by someone not as "cultured" as myself ;-) but I understand that first generation Asian immigrants often seem rude to Americans because of the language barrier and different societal norms and vastly different population densities... The lady was super nice and gave us an upgrade to a suite with nice little kitchenette in it !! The room was clean and parking was ample. The owners stayed at the office until I could get there at 11:00 pm. My rate was expensive as the only room left was a 6 person room. It had 3 double beds. The room was huge. I booked a double occupancy room over the phone based on the motel's website photos and description of in-room amenities about a month before my visit. When I called a few days before to confirm my reservation, there seemed to be a bit of confusion as to my dates and length of stay by the manager. After checking with the owner, she finally confirmed my reservation (I was not given the option of having a confirmation of my reservation emailed to me). My first impression upon arriving at the motel, was that exterior was dirty and dominated by an ugly parking lot. I figured that as long as my room was clean and comfortable, the exterior didn't matter. The staff was pleasant, helpful and courteous but the management required full payment upon check-in which I found highly unusual. That gave the motel an "hour-by-hour" (brothel) feel and made me feel concerned. My room was on the end of one building and I found that there was not adequate parking in front of my unit as advertised. The room itself seemed tidy and I noticed the smell of bleach/cleaning solution. While website advertised newly renovated accommodations, I found my room to have very "used" looking furniture and mis-matched window coverings. The room was rather dark too -- one bed-side lamp and one standing lamp in the corner. The bathroom was inconsistent in size and rather cramped in comparison to the double occupancy. The bathroom door had a "bond-o" repair to what looked like a huge hole. Also, there was a single chair/table and only comfortable place for seating was on the bed (I was sharing the room with my sister). While there was a rack for hanging clothes, there were very few hangers. The advertised in-room amenities were highly inconsistent. While free wi-fi was available, there were very few electrical outlets available for use. Some outlets were over-crowded and dangerous looking. The advertised hot breakfast left a lot to be desired. It was technically food, but lacked flavor and quality. Also, it was rather picked over and not replenished. Sometime around 1am on my first night's stay, the air conditioner stopped working and the temp rapidly rose in the room (it was mid-summer). When informed of the non-functioning AC after the "hot breakfast," the manager arranged to have the unit replaced by noon. Unfortunately, the replacement did not function. The manager did not believe me when I informed her and she followed me to the room to "prove" that this second unit did not function. She promised that she'd take care of the unit while I was out for dinner. I was finally offered a different room at 9pm when the AC unit was not able to be repaired. This second room was better in the sense that the AC worked, but it was almost half the size of the first room. Very counter-intuitive was the large bucket for cigarette butts placed under the window of this non-smoking room. Random guests were congregated around the door to my room and I had to ask them to move in order to get my luggage into the room. The smoke from their cigarettes quickly filled my non-smoking room and was even pulled in by the AC. After getting settled in, I decided to make a bowl of popcorn only to discover that the microwave did work. The final straw for me was the lack of hot water for a shower. To their credit, I was refunded the full cost of two nights when I decided to check-out half-way into my stay. My sister and I checked into the Best Western two doors down for the remainder of our stay in Alamosa. While the price per night was significantly higher, the Best Western exceeded our expectations. This place is not clean. The lady who I spoke with about the room after checking in was very rude and did not believe my boyfriend and I that the room was disgusting. There was left over food in the freezer from the previous guest, dust on the head board, dirt in the tub, and hair in the hair dryer. I ask for a refund and she said I don't know if I can do that because you booked online instead of calling us directly. We followed her back to the office after she checked the room and she kept insisting that there wasn't anything in the fridge. We kept telling her that she didn't looked in the freezer but still didn't believe us. We walked into the office and the guy was giving us our money back but made a comment. He said didn't you look at the pictures before you booked. We did and the way the room looked didn't bother us. The think that bothered us was that it wasn't clean and for the price I was going to pay it was not worth it. read more

Terrible service, stayed for two nights and only never had room service until the morning we checked out. They were not nice at all did not show respect for their customers. Only had one roll of tpilet paper and it was not replenished for two whole days. They said in their welcome book that they had rollaway beds. When we called to ask for one they said they had none, and there was not many people stsying there so they falsly advertised that. It may not look like much, but stay here if visiting Alamosa. My friend and I rolled in from Minnesota and noticed the "newly refurbished" words on their sign, so decided to check it out. Very clean, affordable and welcoming. The owners are really nice and accommodating. They even let us eat the free continental breakfast an hour late one of the few days we stayed there. The rooms also have TV (of course),Wi-Fi, fridge and microwave. Close to a bar and also a restaurant/bowling alley. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

The room was CLEAN! That's #1 for us. The owner was very accommodating and showed us a couple of rooms. We brought our bicycles and wanted to be able to bring them into the room at night so the owner made sure to show us a room that was large enough. There was a new, medium sized fridge, microwave and Hi-Def flat screen TV! No bathtub, just a shower, but PLENTY of hot water. The beds were comfy and there were plenty of pillows, both fluffy and supportive. The lobby does have a computer if needed. The Wi-Fi signal was strong in the room!!! Most of the rooms were non-smoking and ours was fresh smelling. There are some rooms that are set aside for smokers. There is a typical continental breakfast (juice dispenser, coffee, tea, cold cereals, toast, yogurt,bagels, cream cheese, apples & bananas and pastries. Thee breakfast area is very small with only two tables. BUT, the motel is right next door to an I-Hop! You can leave your car parked an go have breakfast there before you check out. Rooms are very clean, the innkeepers are customer-oriented, beds are super-comfy, and I receive top-drawer attention at half the price of other hotels in the area.
