Room hasn't been dusted (cleaned?) In quite some time
    Daniel D.

This hotel is pretty subpar for the price. With tax, the total for my room on a Monday night was $188 and I'm a Honors Diamond member. There was no Acknowledgement for being a Hilton Honors member, first off, and no water bottles in the room. The room has not been dusted in quite some time, which caused me to sneeze constantly. Digital key did not work and beds were kind of messed up when I arrived. This is the only Hilton option in Alamosa, but even as a Diamond member, I would stay elsewhere next time I'm in town.

Internet speed at Hampton Inn Alamosa, Colorado.

First off, I am a three-year Hilton Diamond level member and use Hilton properties almost exclusively. That said, this was the worst experience in a Hilton property I have ever had. We (two adults and our two children) arrived the evening of 6/5/2020 on a celebration trip for our anniversary. We were not told that the hot water was not functioning. We discovered that shortly after getting to the room after going for a run and using the gym. Cold showers for those who could endure one. Next, we turn the TV on for weather and sports and almost 3/4 of the channels report "please contact your provider for payment and subscription options." At this point I decided to go down and have a face-to-face with the manager. Unfortunately, the manager was not there, their place being filled with a person who deflected all questions about the TV service but acknowledged that the hot water had been out and that the plumber was replacing the pump and it would take an hour, maybe an hour and a half. Four hours later (10:45pm) there was still absolutely no hot water. I went back down and asked the same lady and a short, plump man who assured me that it would be fixed soon but that the hot water might take a while to build back up. Fair enough; we washed up in cold water and went to bed. 8:30am this morning I checked for hot water and there was still none available. I went back down and talked to their regular morning staff who informed me that there had never been a plumber on site last night and I must have misunderstood. What's amazing about that is that three other guests standing there heard the same thing I heard and stayed the night on that promise instead of demanding a refund and going elsewhere. Now they aren't eligible for the night's refund and were offered a credit to stay at this same hotel again which isn't useful as we are all traveling through. The fact that we were all lied to ruined any chance of salvaging this situation. Finally, the internet service is horrible and no one could even speak to why, let alone fix or mitigate it. There has been zero attempt at genuine customer service beyond offering to arrange for us to travel to a Comfort Inn nearby to shower if we wanted to. This was a disaster of a trip and, while I would STRONGLY urge anyone traveling through here to avoid this place with all possible efforts. I will reconsider my loyalty to the Hilton Honors loyalty program after this affair depending on what is done to remediate this situation. Bottom line: this place has obviously gone into the gutter from whatever it was previously so save yourself the money and frustration and stay anywhere else in Alamosa, you'll be glad you did.

My first visit to Alamosa and my normal Hyatt hotel choice hasn't quite made it to this town. A Hampton Inn will do, it's the newest hotel and right across from my office - bonus. This Hampton Inn is right off Main Street and a pretty centralized location. Check in and check out was a breeze. Refrigerator and microwave in every room, large bed, flat screen TV on a swivel to point to the bed or the couch, and a sizable bathroom. They also have one of the biggest binders giving you the low down on the hotel and town offerings such as: how to obtain Wi-Fi on any device, restaurants in the area, hotel amenities and popular attractions. I will be visiting Alamosa every month give or take and this will definitely be my hotel of choice in the area.

Not as nice as it is pictured online. Odd smells and mediocre rooms. Breakfast was not appealing.

The accommodations and restaurants make staying in Alamosa attractive when we're doing anything related to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The only negatives were a non-working elevator and not-kept-filled bacon bin at the buffet breakfast. No doubt the elevator situation was temporary and we just had bad timing. Odds are high we'll be back many more times, especially since you can get really good pricing when IHG is having one of their frequent flash sales.

The desk attendant was so friendly and quick! He let us know snacks and water were available in the lobby, which our hungry crew was excited for! Fresh and yummy! After arriving in our room, we were impressed with the note on the bed describing the mattress topper and pillows and the option to switch them out if you preferred a firmer bed. We were exhausted and slept really well, despite being right next to the highway (the only downfall of this place). Everything was clean, AC worked great, plenty of towels, shampoo/conditioner/bodywash in pumps in the shower. Lotion and hand soap pumps in the bathroom as well. In the morning, we went hot tubbing (opened at 7am) and then enjoyed the hot breakfast buffet! Omelettes, pancakes, waffles, sausage, yogurt, biscuits and gravy, cereal options, oatmeal...and more. Something for everyone! My one suggestion would be to have a Gluten Free muffin option, such as Udi's prepackaged ones. Checkout was easy and again, staff was amazing! Highly recommend. We will stay again if in the area!

Upon check-in, a strange man approached her and started asking personal questions such as, what's your name, where are you from, and so forth, this left her very uncomfortable. A few minutes afterward she was unpacking in her room and getting ready to start her short stay in Alamosa when she heard someone unlocking her door and trying to get in, thank God she had the chain lock secured. Come to find out it was the same guy at the front desk, we learned that night he was a staff member since they don't have daily room service, and the fact he had just spoken with my daughter and knew what room she had been assigned. As a father, I found this to be extremely concerning, she was petrified. I began to investigate the situation and learned, this was an ongoing issue with this particular employee. Long story short, this man has a history of lurking around guests' rooms, to say the least! Current employees and past employees told me about him, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up - criminal activity occurring without accountability. The current Owner and Manager have allowed him and his friend to lure a female minor into a room. This guy lives on the premises and has keys to every room. This investigation is just getting started! This encounter happened on March 3, 2025. I immediately moved her to a different hotel on the opposite side of town.

I'm a fairly low maintenance traveler, especially when flying solo, so this simple motel checked the boxes for a one night stay. Price was comparable to nearby competitors, if not the best room rate in town. Huge plus! Dunes Inn is right on Main Street and within walking distance to several local restaurants. I arrived earlier than expected, and they were kind enough to have my room ready an hour early. For one person, the room was a good size. Brick wall was a bonus! Bathroom was small and in need of an overhaul. Noticeably short bath towels and I'm not even tall! Hangers, microwave, fridge, desk, TV, plenty of lighting, and storage. Bed was average and so were the pillows. If you're okay with a roadside motel, this place does the trick. Parking lot is small for the amount of rooms. Worth noting that even though you use a real key to enter your room, the doors lock automatically behind you. They do offer a free breakfast voucher at the cafe next door. Unfortunately I couldn't take advantage since I was catching sunrise and hiking at the park. A nice gesture though. This ain't the Ritz Carlton, nor is it trying to be. Background I stayed here on Feb 2022 with family (and dogs) while enjoying a pleasure trip to the St Luis Valley area. It was winter, it was cold however the reception here was fairly warm. No restaurant, no lounge and some reminisced about a once nice water park addition and talked of the past when this was THE PLACE to book weddings and parties. Not anytime recently apparently. My review and feedback in February was to improve consistency with the rooms, work on getting junk cars gone from the parking lot, work your way out of the transient business while actively courting business travelers, vacationers and other nightly guests. So fast forward 3 months. The vehicles sitting on flats are gone from the parking lot and it was nice to see familiar and friendly faces at the front desk. Transients, loafers and those looking to be down on their luck are still hanging about. The vandalized entry doors (most are shattered) and the lack of security locks catches the eye first. Secondly still not offering so much as a stale doughnut in the morning? Some sort of breakfast is expected in the 2020s. Oh well there is coffee and a little shop offering snacks near the front desk. We can make do, the rate is favorable. Now in May 2022 "my rate" is 85% higher than 3 months earlier. This is the high season. Oh. I have 2 canines again and although not well kept the front vegetated area adjacent to the street suits them. I asked for a quiet room convenient for the pups. Upstairs, yes that's fine. Incidentally room 201 is mine for 3 days. Across the hall guess what..a nice loud family complete with overstressed mother, screaming children and a door that can only be slammed. Long-termers apparently. Quiet? Anything but. I took a few pictures. We all enjoy seeing what that guy is talking about.. Oddest? Nearly no toilet paper, wires dangling from the ceiling where a smoke detector once resided and a glaring hole in the entry where missing ceiling tile lets you see the fossilized remains of a chill water air conditioner system. A relic actually. Someone has gone and broken the back of the bed and although here to enjoy the valley it shouldn't include a mattress that also resembles a valley. Day 2. I return, no maid service, so no toilet paper for a start. I saunter down to the front desk and mention the missed housekeeping service when I asked for toilet paper. "Weekly guests receive maid service on Wednesdays". Yes, but I'm a nightly guest.. The polite young man encouraged me to read a notice on the desk that explained "Due to Covid...". Wait, what, that's over and this is a hotel, not a rooming house...and just who made this decision? Ridiculous! He doesn't know, it's the way it is though. So my mistake is now obvious. This IS a rooming house that will occasionally accommodate a nightly guest, so long as you don't mind the rules put in place for the transient folks. OK, never mind.
