If you are headed to the Great Sand Dunes National Park or just want to get away from the hustle and bustle, this place is perfect for the no-nonsense (up close with nature) traveler. Be sure to double check the local weather and dress (or pack extra blankets) accordingly. Take advantage of the s'mores and breakfast burritos if you have time and are up early enough.

Absolutely spectacular, charming spot with good proximity to the Sand Dunes. Very chill staff and a great vibe. Only thing to be prepared for is that the wind can whip up at nighttime and the tents can be very loud, making for a restless night if you don't have ear plugs. Bring the plugs and you're golden. If you're lucky, you'll make the outside walk to the bathrooms to pee in the middle of the night and see the Milky Way to eternity. Truly a must stay spot if you're doing the Dunes.

We loved our Grain Bin Villa at Rustic Rook! What a neat idea for a place to stay with high ceilings and modern, yet rustic decor. This was a last minute stay (we booked the same day!), and the hosts were extremely accommodating. They made sure everything was set for a party of three adults. We stayed in mid-October, so the campground is closed for the season, but it was easy to get to by following the directions sent by the host who is great with communication. It's nice to be able to drive right up to our bin. The kitchen was well-stocked with a toaster, plates, silverware, heating plate, good size fridge and freezer that was stocked with burritos for purchase (they were tempting, but we brought our own groceries). There are two comfy chairs, plus a table and chairs and extra chairs for plenty of seating. There's also a grill and picnic table just outside the door. The bathroom is a generous size with plenty of room to move around. The corner shower is a little tight, but so luxurious to have in the middle of nowhere! It heats up fast thanks to a tankless water heater. The whole upstairs is the bedroom and has an amazing ceiling with a small window at the very top. The king bed is very comfortable. The pullout bed was ok for the third adult in our party; it would be better suited for a child. The stairs looked steep but were no problem for us to get up and down. There is a TV in the bedroom, but we didn't use it with all the great activities to do in the area! The Wi-Fi was handy, though you do have to move around the bin to find the right spots for it (you're in a metal bin, after all!) We really appreciated the electric charging at a station on camp a short walk away where we left our car overnight. The best part of the bins is the location! It's less than 20 minutes in either direction to Sand Dunes Recreation (we loved The Greenhouse hot spring!) and Great Sand Dunes National Park. I highly recommend trying this place out. We'd love to stay here again and also want to check out the tents in the warmer months. Thank you for being so kind during our stay!

My first time camping and Rustic Rook was a great place to stay. When we pulled into the parking lot and walked into the lobby we were warmly greeted and they seemed very excited that we were staying with them. After I shower my friends photos of our accommodations they said you're "glamping". Either way for me it's camping. The tent we stayed in had two double beds, night stands and a wood burning stove if we needed it. The night we stayed there it got to be low 50s, so it wasn't needed. They provide us devices to charge our phones and use the fans provided if needed. The charger was pretty new since it allowed spots for the new iPhones to be plugged into. Around 815pm they offered s'mores for everyone if you wanted to sit by the campfire. The bathrooms were very clean and in the showers they provide soap, shampoo, and conditioner. When my friends come in town we will definitely head back to Rustic Rook to camp.

Beautiful property with great views of Great Sand Dunes National Park and the surrounding mountains. The staff are warm and friendly and answered all our questions. We pre-ordered some steaks for dinner and grilled them then joined the other guests for s'mores around the bonfire. The tent was clean and comfortable with 3 single beds, wooden floors, chairs inside and out, and a wooden stove. We were hoping to do some stargazing but the weather didn't cooperate, but we were warm and dry inside our tent while the summer thunderstorm passed by. Really made our National Parks trip special.

FIVE STARS!!! What a wonderful place to camp and so conveniently located next to the Great Sand Dunes National Park! We enjoyed the beautiful sunset and sunrise views while we were there. The camp hosts have thought of everything and provide all you need to make your stay safe, comfortable and relaxing. The tents are clean and cozy and are outfitted with blankets, pillows, towels, fans and chairs as well as a wood stove to keep you warm during the night if needed. Lanterns and battery packs are also provided so don't worry about packing those! It was great to have clean, warm showers and a toilet that flushes while "roughing it". For those who want a more luxurious camping experience, they also provide tents with a private shower and toilet. In the evening, they provided s'mores and a campfire complete with live music. So fun! Be sure to look up at the night sky on your walk back to your tent. So many stars!!!! We enjoyed our delicious warm breakfast burritos and coffee in the clubhouse in the morning as well. We wish we would have had more time to spend here but we had to get back to the airport to catch our flight back home after the long holiday weekend. Thanks so much for the great stay, Rustic Rook! We'll be back!

This experience could have been amazing. The tents are beautiful and clean. The views are incredible. The staff is friendly and attentive- until 10 pm. The rules are clear; 10 pm is quiet time. But there is nobody to encourage this or enforce it. We stayed two nights, eager to explore this amazing place. The first night we got very little sleep because there were children playing and crying into the early morning hours. We had so little sleep we couldn't complete our plans for the day because we had to return to nap. The second night, adults were loudly talking and laughing around a campfire until 1 am when one of our party had to ask them to quiet down. It would have been a perfect stay if there had been staff available to ensure quiet hours so that all guests could have a comfortable experience.

If you're looking for a friendly, pre-pitched camp experience, Rustic Rook should be considered. It's conveniently located near the Great Sand Dunes National Park, and offers the essentials for a clean, camping experience. Staff is friendly, professional, and efficient. They gave us lanterns, chargers and offered a golf cart to bring us to our tent at check-in. We opted to reserve an en-suite bathroom / shower, and grill with our tent which was nice because we enjoyed the views of the mountains whilst grilling and having dinner outside. Smore's at night is an opportunity to connect w other guests. You can pre-order meals (eg: burger dinnner / takeaway lunch), which is convenient because there's not a lot around. Just manage expectations because you're in the middle of nowhere - they do a good job with what they haves and can offer. Able to accommodate vegetarians like me too. It does get cold at night so bring layers / learn how to use the stove if you want the heat. Our hot water didn't work, but it was middle of summer. Manage expectations - this isn't Under Canvas 5 stars, but it's not UC prices either, and they do a really great job of an authentic outdoor Colorado experience that's a big step up from camping - perfect for someone who's new to it, or frequent campers that want something "nicer". Definitely unique and not to be missed in Mosca / Great Dunes. Many thanks RR team!

We were welcomed with a warm greeting as we arrived, and given directions to our tent site. Check in was quick since we had completed online forms prior to arriving. After setting up camp and eating dinner, we captured beautiful, unobstructed views of the sunset. Around 8pm a community campfire was prepared along with s'mores makings. We enjoyed chatting with other campers as we viewed the dark sky filled with stars. The bathroom facilities were not what we expected, but were very good. There were 7 combination bathroom/shower rooms available - 2 larger ones that would be good for families with small children, 4 individual ones, and 1 accessible room. They were very clean. We were at tent site #1 so the nighttime walk required a flashlight - there was minimal lighting which allowed for that amazing night sky. All roads within the resort are dirt. BYO tent sites were able to drive around the property to park at the site, but for every other site parking is required at the main lot and you must cart your items to the rented tents and silos. I'm not sure if they had wagons available. The morning breakfast burrito and coffee were plenty to energize us for the Great Sand Dunes climbing (wear water shoes) all just 15-20 minutes away. Besides the dunes there are lots of trails available, too. Don't miss a visit to Zapata Falls just 30 minutes from the dunes. Wear your hiking shoes for the trail but have your water shoes ready for the chilly steps to the falls in the cave. Not to be missed! Rustic Rook Resort staff was friendly and helpful. BYO tent sites are leveled gravel with a picnic table - quite nice. Be sure to have a mat for under your sleeping bag. We didn't bring our small propane fire pit and just used our single propane burner for our dinner. All made for a delightful two nights stay.

This place was a mixed bag for us. When we arrived, we were checked in quickly and one of the people who worked there gave us a ride in a golf cart to our tent which was nice. They gave us lanterns and USB charging packs and he showed us how to use our stove. We ordered the foil pack dinner which was fine and grilled there. There were super hot peppers in the potato foil pack which I wish I had been warned about before biting into one. The grill area had hackey sack and horseshoes. I was looking forward to the s'mores at night, but all the kids were putting their hands directly into the marshmallows instead of using the utensil. Maybe during Covid it would be better to give people individual s'more packages. There were two things that brought the star rating down for me. One was that my bed had a bunch of hairs in it. Eewww! Secondly, our stove wasn't really working in the room and it was freezing! I see another review mentioned that their stove didn't work either. So cold!! Just a few notes that didn't impact my rating, but might be useful for others: there is no Wi-Fi in the tents, it was pretty noisy at night between dogs barking and coyotes howling so bring earplugs, and there is just a sheet separating the main area of the tent from the bathroom so not a lot of privacy.

Lovely place near GSDNP! Had a tent for the kids and a second for us. Super clean and the scenery was beautiful. They put a lot of thought into the setup of the facility and even gave us USB chargers for phones and a little fan. Restrooms were very clean with showers. The thunderstorm in the evening as well as the sunrise over the dunes were gorgeous. Hosts were super-friendly. We can't wait to come back next year!

I loved everything about this place! The cabins were simple but clean, clean bathrooms. Everything met our basic needs. You can checkout flashlights, usb battery chargers and sand boards at the front desk. The beds were comfy and supported me and my husband who are considered "plus size", no problem. They were solid wood frames. The bbq grills had a few small issues (one burner wouldn't light) but we moved to another one and it was fine. They had toddler toys on site so my kids loved playing with them. The staff is great! All other travelers were kind and respectful too. I'd come back in a heart beat!

**Please note: this review is for the Rustic Rook Grain Bin rentals, which is part of Rustic Rook Resort, and are both located on the same property** We stayed here last night and I want to say that the accommodations were "okay" at best. I would equate it to like staying in a tiny home with a much better bathroom. If that's your thing, I'd say book a stay. However, I'd like to highlight my experience with the management, which was not the best. I don't know who I was texting with because they didn't give me their name. This situation may apply to you or it may not. I just need to type it here, so I can release the negative energy and anxiety that this situation has caused me. We booked this about a week in advance. We were told later that their business would not accept my letter from my doctor stating that my dog is my emotional support animal (ESA). I do have a few medical conditions that do allow me to have this designation for my pet. In the past 10 years, I have never had a hotel, motel, AirB&B, etc. refuse my letter and still charge me the pet fee, but Rustic Rook Resort did just that. I did ask that my reservation be cancelled and refunded, but they stated they would not reverse the charge because I would've needed to cancel 30 days in advance of the stay date. Keep in mind that I made the reservation a week before my trip. At this point, I was bound to the reservation or lose all of the money I'd spent. We did obviously keep the reservation and made the 4 hour drive to come to Mosca, CO and enjoy the Great Sand Dunes National Park, which was amazing! Later that day we started seeing severe weather alerts for snow, wind, and below freezing temperatures. We didn't think it would be a good idea to stay the second night for safety reasons. When I asked the person I'd been texting if they would kindly refund that second night due to the extreme weather conditions that were coming, I was denied any refund. We left anyway and hit some pretty bad weather on the way home. If we'd waited till the next day as planned, it would've been much worse. Now, here's where I stand on their decision to not waive my pet fee for an emotional support animal, and not offer any kind of refund for needing to leave a day early due to extreme weather. I realize there are policies in place, and I'm sure there will be a response to my review from Rustic Rook Resort. They will likely say that these are our policies, etc., etc. In response to that, I'd like to say that it's not always about a policy in your business. It's about customer satisfaction. Would it be a slight inconvenience for you to bend the rules in these situations? Most likely. Would it be the kind thing to do and to make this more of a positive human experience? Yes. I would've gladly made this an annual trip because we loved the area so much. I also have family who travel to Colorado to see us each year. They were excited to hear all about our experience. This is how you get repeat business. Making the customer have a positive experience should be a higher priority than adhering to a "policy." In addition, and this is just how I read the texts. Sometimes it's hard to tell the context of a text message, but in this case (in my opinion) those texts came off with a very condescending tone. This did not help in the least and it caused me a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety. This was supposed to be a nice, relaxing weekend getaway. Unfortunately, this experience made me wish we'd just stayed home. I hope this review helps someone else make an informed decision about whether to stay here. I'm not on here to bash this business. They made their decision and I'm choosing to share my experience based on the decision Rustic Rook Resort made. Thanks for reading. **Update 01/28/26. Just as I predicted, the policies were thrown back at me. I want to reiterate that sometimes it's about doing the right thing to create a positive outcome. I want to be sure to point out that we did leave before the major part of the storm hit. It was just starting as we left. Had we waited another day, it would've been a much worse situation. I appreciate that you are a small business. I also recognize that it's "off season," but that doesn't give you an excuse to just recite a policy to me and dismiss the fact that it was a real weather "emergency." Any reputable business would take that into account. Clearly we need to agree to disagree here, but the fact of the matter remains, I will never recommend your business to anyone. There are much more reputable accommodations in your area. I wish you well in your off season. I hope the money you made off of me during the weather emergency was worth having this review posted. read more

I stayed at Rustic Rook Resort for one night and was shocked by the lack of cleanliness. Our sheets were filthy--covered in dirt and hair--and we even found a book return receipt under the sheets, proving they hadn't been changed since the previous guests. The sheets were so dirty that we could hardly sleep, which completely ruined our stay. When we brought this to the staff's attention, the main point of contact, Annette, insisted the sheets were clean even though they clearly were not. She offered no apology, no solution, and no compensation, which was incredibly disappointing. Clean sheets are the bare minimum expectation, and the customer service fell far short of that standard. It's a shame, because the location is truly prime and we would have loved to return. However, with poor customer service, dirty accommodations, non-working Wi-Fi, and a broken fire pit, we will not be coming back. I would not recommend staying here--there are plenty of places in the area that actually prioritize cleanliness and guest experience read more

We take cleanliness very seriously and our sheets are ALWAYS changed…
Even before I stepped foot onto this property, I was exchanging emails with Annette and Amber regarding some logistics of the trip including meals, high altitude and sand sleds. They were always very responsive which helped with the planning of this trip. We arrived pretty late on the first day around 830pm. Amber helped check us in and she was not only super helpful (showing us our tent, capturing a few moths for us, starting the camp stove for us etc) but was super friendly so shout out to Amber!! We got to enjoy the last bit of smores by the firepit before we unloaded, bbq our burgers and unwind for the night. I booked the Estate tent 16x20 which included two full beds and a couch that can unfold into a small bed as well. It comes with a camp stove (1 pack of wood per night). It also came with a private toilet and sink on one side and a shower on the other. I have been to a few glamping spots and this is one that consistently had hot running water! This is true glamping in style..comes with wifi so you can stay connected even at the tents, chargers, free breakfast, free smores..they have everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The property is beautiful! Mosca, CO which is one of my new favorite place!! The constellations, stars and Milky Way is the best I have seen so far and I have been to a few International dark skies spots for star gazing. We packed a telescope and enjoyed star gazing after dinner. Rustic Rook is amazing in everyway, glamping at its finest! PS: I just realized they do military discounts when I was browsing through their website again. I did not see that when I booked my reservation, oh well. Thank you for supporting military members and veterans! read more

Annette, After multiple emails communications explaining to you our bad experience, you have our $500+ as it was prepaid to you. We lose $500+ with Credit or without credit. After communicating with you, we will NEVER stay again ever or recommend it to anyone. I am warning others to be extra careful and not fall into the same ugly trap. We got fool by the name "Glamping." $Glamping: glamorous camping-expect to pay premium rate, for premium service, JUST NOT HERE. Question: Is that Lisa in the photo on Jessica N. Fake five stars review? Yes, that Lisa. That is the lady that checked us in and out, told us the wrong tent, and told me her computer was down when asked for an email confirmation. Your most trusted staff. If you don't believe me or my husband, your guests who paid premium rate, which estate tent we stayed in, ask Matt. He seems to be an honest guy after all he was the one who help us light our stove in E1 not E5. You know E5 the one we supposedly stayed in, the one that we demanded ur staffs to clean at 9 pm because we didn't want to move two tents down to E1. He was very kind. Or maybe you might want to follow up with the traveling FL couples in E3 who checked out early for the same reasons: uncomfortable night and stove issues. We had a long conversation with them. Don't let me tell you how to run your business. After all you labeled me as the 0.5% of your business for giving you a bad review. You don't listen well, or want to know the true. As for my husband's review: When I showed the fake Jessica N 5 stars review with your staff Lisa's photo, he was upset and compelled to write his own. Initially, he wanted me to let this all go and write off as a complete loss. It's one thing if we stayed in a $99/nt establishment. Blame it on "get what you paid for." It's another things when it's "glamping", not camping, at $250/nt. . $250 is not cheap! That's one night at the JW Marriott in downtown LA. That was 5 stars+. Policy aside, your replies to me made me feel robbed of the luxurious glamping experience, blamed for not be able to work your stove, and shamed for my clothes, taping out, and thinking of the safety of my children. It's not the greatest feelings especially after having paid $500+. My only recourse is to tell others of our experience as a warning. IF you want to try glamping, try the other glamping camp. The owner is quick to let you know there are other site. If you book with her, be extra careful when booking. DO NOT BOOK multiple days unless it's 31 days out or within 24 hours of your checkin date. Colorado nights are unpredictable cold, we totally underestimated it. The days are sunny and hot. But if you had a horrible first night like us, don't be ashamed to tap out. If you must tap out, know you lose your $$$ as there are "no credit/refund for bad experience or cold nights." That's directly from the owner. And you too will be shamed and blamed directly by the owner, she only wants to hear good reviews or good fake reviews, not your bad ones. Read her response to the bad reviews for yourself. The park usually have camping spots check there first. Especially, if you have 31 days to plan. But if you are last minute like us, do it within 24 hours for multiple days or one day at a time. There are many motels with heat around in Mosca. Mosca is about 15-20 minutes drive. It kinda far to be honest. Rustic Rook is in Mosca. We passed by Great Sand Dunes Lodge really close by the entrance of the park. Looked nice well established. Try that. We will for sure. Never will we stay this resort again or Recommend it to anyone. I will definitely have a lot to say to anyone who ask for a long time. read more

We can't wait to come back next year! read more

I'd come back in a heart beat! read more

I admit, I am a regular tent camper who is used to certain conveniences in a campsite: a table and a small fire pit, to name a couple. The one problem with this place is there are really no food options nearby and it is not convenient to cook your own food. The tables and grills are too far away, so if you have to coordinate your food items, your dog and your kids, it's just too hard. The tent cabins remind me of those in Yosemite, but in Yosemite there are a million food-court style food options. Speaking of food, I just looked at their website and noticed they have a picture of food in the tent, which is weird because they actually do not want you eating in your tent! Firewood. They suggest you buy it, but you don't need it unless the weather is cold and you need to heat up your tent. We assumed there was a fire-pit we would use for the s'mores they provide, but that was a group fire-pit. We just went and July is HOT!!!!. You will not want to spend much time at your site during the day because there is no shade and it is truly miserable. We ended up staying two nights, but I think this is uncommon, because we left some things on our front porch after our first night--my daughter's rock collection, a dishpan that was drying, and my dog's leash, and when we came back from our hike the rocks were swept into the dirt, the dishpan was gone, and we never got the leash back! This place might work for you, but it is very overpriced and I think if they changed the setup and got more shade covers, it would work a lot better. read more

Nicole, All of your complaints are things that we clearly state on…
When planning our trip, we quickly realized that there are very limited places to stay around Sand Dunes National Park. We planned on staying at the park late to star gaze and wanted something close by and this is as close as we got without actually being in the park. I am not a camping person so the idea of glamping made me a bit uneasy. The bathrooms are very tight but much cleaner than I expected. The room was also very clean and the bed was super comfortable. We spent all afternoon and evening in the park but there are grills, games and complementary s'mores for guests. We visited early June and it was still very cold at night. I slept in my winter coat, hat & gloves and was still very cold. At check in, they also provide a lantern and portable charger which was super convenient. Waking up to sunshine and views of the mountains were incredible though and the free breakfast burritos were a added bonus. read more

SPECTACULAR VISTAS of the Great San Dunes where you can rent sand boards/sleds. As a skier this is the best warm weather activity for a downhill enthusiast! Also loved the sunrises, sunsets, yard games, disk golf, smores at the community fire and the breakfast burritos with a cup of coffee. Glamping in the upscale tents is awesome. Cheers! read more

We had a spectacular time at Rustic Rook Resort! We spent a wonderful relaxing weekend in a big tent with a comfortable bed, wood burning stove for heat and breathtaking views of the mountains & the Great Sand Dunes. The staff at Rustic Rook is attentive and friendly, they had good ideas for activities in the area (don't miss Zapata Falls hike!) We enjoyed the s'mores around the campfire and the sunsets are astounding! This is a campground, so no electricity in the tents, but they provided solar charged lanterns & chargers for our phones. They even provided USB powered fans in the tents that the chargers powered up no problem! We had a tent space that utilized the community bathroom trailer. I was skeptical about that initially, but was pleasantly surprised! They have individual rooms with locking doors on the bathroom/shower rooms. There was plenty of hot water, though lots of sand (this is not a criticism, we were camping in the desert!) In a nutshell, Rustic Rook was a great get-away and we have been talking about our stay there for days! Thank you Rustic Rook, we will be back!! read more

This place is WONDERFUL. The views are phenomenal, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly AND they have smores at night and egg burritos & coffee in the morning! The power bank chargers they provide you with last for DAYS so no need to feel like you cannot charge all of your devices - you absolutely can! Everything here was incredible and if I ever find myself in the area again, I will 100% be staying here! read more

The resort is wonderful, however one of the lady's that works there or owns it left her dog in her car on a blazing hot day with the windows rolled up tightly. When I mentioned something nicely to the front desk,, she was very rude and insisted that her dog was fine. I would have given the resort a 5 star rating if not for her. read more

This is a very fun place to stay they have thought of everything to make a comfortable stay while "glamping". You could rent sand boards for the dunes. And grilles were available, and it's very family friendly with nightly s'mores over the campfire that the kids loved. Pros- very comfortable beds, nice bathrooms for camping, and the option to get a tent with a bathroom, friendly staff, beautiful setting surrounded by mountains. Close to the sand dunes, Colorado Gators, and Zapata Falls, family friendly, the grille packages were great and breakfast burritos in the morning. Lots of space and open air for social distancing during this season that people are trying to be conscious of such things. Cons- sometimes the there is a little sand in the bathroom but the main attraction to the area is the sand dunes so that is understandable. Wished there could have been a refrigerator in the tent, but I realize they are off the grid which makes that not feasible. We stayed for 3 nights and overall we had a great stay and looking forward to visiting again. read more

We planned our Colorado adventure and found this place a few months before our adventure started. We stayed the night at $250.00 (counting tax) and I found it to be a little overpriced. What drew us to this place was the idea of "glamping" next to the Great Sand Dunes. First all the positives. 1. Excellent view of the Sand Dunes. 2. I actually love the wood stove. We came in late June and it was still needed. It was about 45 that night. Works great as long as you don't let it go out. 3. Morning crew and the guy who helped with s'mores was very friendly and helpful. 4. Beds were comfortable and plenty of room in the tent. 5. The coffee is amazing! The things I think can be better. 1. I would remove the idea of glamping from any ideas you may have. Although this is a very nice campground, it is not all inclusive. 2. The bathrooms are nice but very small inside and only 4 for the whole campground. 3. I don't know... just seems for $250.00 a night more should be included like as much wood that is needed to get through the night. Etc. 4. Finally, the lady who checked us in was very unfriendly. Not sure if she is always like this or having a bad day but wow! Everyone else is great. read more

Was staying here for a visit to the Sand Dunes over Memorial Holiday weekend! I was looking forward to the vacation and being away from the City. I would not recommend this location if you are looking for the same. When we checked in the employee was abrasive and accusative about our pet(dog). We assured him we would keep him on leash and not to worry; yet, even as we walked towards our tent another family was just ahead with their dog off lead. I thought it was odd this was singled out to us. After a dinner grilled we were sitting out front of our tent relaxing when the same employee called my wife asking if we had checked in. We reminded him that we had, and he stated that was odd as we had a second tent reserved for us under my wife's same first name (unique spelling) with different last name as we were recently married. My wife explained that back in March when she called to make a reservation, she never got a confirmation email after supplying the money. She called back in April after the name change and asked if a confirmation could be sent or confirm a reservation. The owner related there was nothing showing up and we should reserve a new tent. This made sense at the time in April. However now as we sat outside of the tent the male employee assured us it was easily seen as two first names easily searchable were here, just the different last names. Best of all - the same bank account was used. The male employee assured us he would follow up with the owner, and we went on with our night. The following morning at check out, the Owner was very clear in her belief she held no fault in this matter. She supplied us with an analogy, "She is a fast food hamburger place - and if the hamburger is cold when we get it home, that isn't her problem as she met her end of the bargain." She refused to refund the second tent that was reserved, and said that if it had not been a holiday weekend where they were fully booked she may have done different - but as we had apparently reserved two tents (the second at her behest) she refused a full refund. The main issues here is the business clearly has a search function of some kind that can look up a name as the male employee inadvertently confirmed this. The owner supplied us with the answer they only go by last names which is a lie based off the male employee. The owner then remained defensive and unwilling to even meet us half way at something she had an equal part of blame in showing a complete lack in customer service. So... using the Owner's own words "If you are a business who sells a cold hamburger to your customers, and gets away with it because you blame the customer, you need to realize eventually the customer's wont come to get your sub par hamburger." Hope this helps someone when considering where to stay! I'm sure I'll get a snarky remark from the owner as she has done with previous bad reviews. So I'll end it with some friendly business advice. Read Robert Sinek's 'Start with Why.' There is some good advice in there that will help you with future customers who are not me. read more

Rustic Rook Resort was so amazing, I will forever recommend this place to anyone headed to the Great Sand Dunes. First of all, the location was a very short ~20-minute drive to the entrance of the park, making it an ideal place to stay if you want to pop into the park for sunsets/sunrises and come back for lunch. The campground itself was also clean, organized, and relaxed. We were greeted by kind, informative staff in the adorable tepee lobby. The campground is completely off-grid but had every amenity you could need while camping - they even provided power packs to charge cell phones/other electronics. The tent was clean, comfortable, and the fire burning stove was a lifesaver during the cold Colorado nights. It smelled of fresh wood and the bedding/blankets kept us warm when we forgot to add wood to the stove during the night. The bathrooms were clean, the water was warm, and the soaps smelled refreshing. I cannot say enough about this place. As an avid backpacker, I was hesitant to give up dispersed camping. However, fire bans are becoming more and more frequent in Colorado making tent camping a cold, sleepless experience. Rustic Rook was the best of all worlds and I can't wait to come back! read more

Rustic Rook Resort was everything we expected and more! We stayed here in early August (me, my husband, and our four sons), and we enjoyed every second of our stay! Upon first arriving, our check-in was smooth, and we were escorted by Matt to our tent. He was very talkative and made us feel very comfortable - answering our questions with ease and showing us all around. He even offered to help us carry our bags in on the golf cart! Our tent was spacious and laid out just the way we specified online when we placed our reservation. It was roomy, clean, modern, and very comfortable. My boys were thrilled to see what glamping looks like! The bathrooms were clean and private. They were well-stocked with soap, hand towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The cleaning lady, Aimee, was very friendly and always greeted us, if we arrived at the bathrooms while she was cleaning. I have a son who is affected severely in sensory ways, and he had no trouble getting acclimated in Rustic Rook's environment - tent, bathroom, shower, eating area, etc.; it was all excellent! We fully enjoyed being able to take advantage of the seasoned grill pack dinner selections and grilling our own food as a family in a private area. While we cooked, the boys would look for bugs/critters and/or play horse shoes and bags. At night, my little guy enjoyed making all the smores he could eat, which were provided by Rustic Rook. During the days, we visited the Dunes park and Zapata Falls - just a short drive away. Easy renting of sand boards through Rustic Rook, too! The support staff and owners of Rustic Rook went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. They never hesitated if we had a question or needed help getting something. Staying here was a wonderful, memorable time, and we can't wait to get back! read more

My husband and I spent this past weekend at Rustic Rook Resort. From start to finish, the entire experience was amazing! We were greeted at our car by a very friendly staff member who brought a wagon to us to help us transport our belongings to our tent. We then got a detailed run down by the owner on how the fireplaces work in the tent. We were given two lanterns which let off a very bright light and two solar powered chargers (for the fans in the tent and cellphones) - they lasted from Friday at 4:30pm when we arrived to Sunday at 10am when we left. The tents were so cozy, nicely maintained and very very clean. The bathrooms were also very clean! The provided shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in all of the showers were always full and the toilet paper and paper towels were always full as well. The floors, showers and toilets were clean (and actually smelled clean, which you typically don't get when you're camping or using "public restrooms"). The nightly fire with complimentary s'mores was so fun! The other families did a great job at social distancing and guests provided music and even a fun drum session. They have a mandatory 10pm "lights out" quiet time for the rest of the night and it was really nice to see all the guests following that rule. It truly made for a peaceful evening of sleep. The bed was so comfortable! It was like hotel pillows and bedding!! The breeze with the addition of the provided fans made for a comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was prompt at 8am with delicious breakfast burritos and coffee. The grilling areas are very convenient and clean. The horseshoes and corn hole games were a lot of fun. The grill package was delicious and well worth the buy! While we did leave our dogs home, it's nice to know that we can bring them next time and they can enjoy the dog run that is provided. We saw staff riding around and emptying the trash cans often and spraying for annoying ants that obviously come with the territory. They didn't bother us at all at our site or in our tent so that was reassuring to know the staff was taking care of the pests. At night, you can see the Milky Way. It was breathtaking. The staff was very informative with things we could do locally during the day. They have sleds you can rent to go to the Sand Dunes. And they also told us about Zapata Falls. The waterfall was a crazy beautiful experience. We are looking forward to returning again before the season ends! We truly had no complaints about the entire weekend. read more

SPIDER INFESTATION !! guys, it looks really nice on the photos, but these are NOT enclosed tents , like normal tents . When we fist arrived, we came in to find spiders all over the beds. Any 5 star reviews must be receiving a discount , or are friends posting on their behalf because at the price you are charged there is no way it should look the way it does( there are abandoned /rotting houses next to the tents that you are told not to climb on) and they have a small walk way marked off and you are told to remain on the walkway "for your safety ". The furniture is janky and the bathrooms are port a potties. several families staying their said they wanted to leave, but had no choice to stay once they got there because they won't issue a refund and couldn't afford to go elsewhere. I felt so bad for them. There is a reason why they have a no refund policy and you have to pay in advance , because once you get there, you want to leave. read more

Pros: When we arrived at 4:30 PM on a Friday, our tent was lovely, the bed was comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, and the staff (though unsure about much) did its best to inform us about our stay and help clear up any questions. We enjoyed grilling and playing horseshoes and eating s'mores at the campfire they provided. Most other campers were very respectful of social distancing. The staff that was available in the evening was kind and helpful. Cons: The bathrooms were unbelievably filthy at 6:30 AM, which indicates no one was doing maintenance in the evening. The bathrooms were not cleaned at all throughout our stay. Garbage was over-flowing, towels that we noticed left behind at 10 PM were still there at 8 AM, toilet seats were covered in urine, the floors were covered in used towels and toilet paper. This is NOT okay ever, but especially not okay during a pandemic. None of the staff practiced any form of social distancing or mask wearing and there were no precautions taken to ensure everyone was healthy who was present, like temperature checks or general cleanliness. We were told that coffee would be available the next morning starting at 6:30 AM and breakfast would be available at 8:00 AM. No staff member was even on the grounds until 8:00, which was an issue considering the tents are heated by wood burning stoves (which is great) but they only provide one fire starter. When our fire went out in the early morning, it was very challenging to get it started again and no one was present to help (or even just give us another starter). When coffee and breakfast did arrive, it became clear that there was not a vegetarian option. The owner was very put out when I asked for a solution, and said she had some oatmeal, but I'd have to wait a while for her to make hot water. This is not a cheap stay - they should have clean bathrooms, no garbage cans anywhere on site should be overflowing, they should have vegetarian options, and they should not be asking their guests to carry up lanterns and throw out their trash from their tents. At $180 a night (this is the cheapest option), they need to recognize that people expect to be cared for, even a little. Bare minimum clean bathrooms at all times. It was a real bummer that the owner was so incredibly rude and clearly did not care about Covid, the cleanliness of her establishment, or the comfort of her guests. She has a great opportunity to make something lovely and welcoming, but that is not what we experienced this weekend. read more

I don't write reviews often but felt compelled to this time. My wife took my kids and I here for my birthday thinking it was going to make for an enjoyable family getaway. It ended up being a terrible experience. Next time we want to do something like this, we will just camp out and save about $250 per night and be just as comfortable. We thought "glamping" would be much nicer than camping but it wasn't. The bed was hard as a rock, there was no working WiFi, the wood burning stove barely worked even with following instructions provided, the breakfast burritos tasted terrible, etc. The one bright spot was the young man that helped us light our stove even though it never really put out much heat. We had sleeping bags in the bed, dressed in layers and still froze in the tent. The couple in the tent next to us as well as us were supposed to stay for two nights but both left after one night with less than pleasant experiences. When we asked for our money back for the second night, we were told that was against policy. So then we asked for a credit so we could stay again one night when it was warmer but again denied. What product does anyone buy that they can't try and return if they don't like it? As you can see from the other critical reviews, the owner doesn't take well to criticism which is a shame. And one of the staff member's relatives posted a fake review for some reason to boost their reputation. This is the first year for this business and they have a lot of room for improvement if they are going to keep things going. Again, I don't post reviews often but felt compelled to let people know that this is no better than actual camping. Buy yourself a nice $100 tent that can be set up in 10 minutes and you'll be much better off. read more

Let me tell you, if you're a nature lover this is the place for you!! The mountain views are absolutely breathtaking! And at night time, you can almost grab the stars! We could see Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars! Mars so so clearly blood orange color it was beautiful!! Even my 3 year old could see the difference! You could see the ENTIRE milky way!! Shooting stars every night (we were there 3)My only regret is not having the correct camera to get pictures of the night sky! The campground was lit up with the cutest solar lights at night so you didn't need to worry about getting lost The cool crisp mornings were made complete by the neighbors tent stoking their fire!! I absolutely loved the smell!! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They had lots of information about the area! There are the sand dunes, which they have sleds to use while you're there! There is also Zapata falls! Its a drive, but beautiful!! There is also an alligator farm not too far away that was the best place ever to take my toddler! They always had breakfast ready by 8am! And a marshmallow fire started by dusk! My daughter absolutely loved making smores! And when we needed help to work our stove late at night Matt had no problem coming to help!! The food packs were yummy and my daughter loved the fried potatoes! The camp grounds and bathroom was always clean and i felt safe using outdoor showers (never have before i was a little scared!) And also!! They have HOT water!! Not like luke warm or run out 5 minutes in! It was hot and comfortable the entire time my daughter and I showered! They even had a large enough one for her and I to use comfortably together. The morning and evenings are cooler so the hot water was great! There were multiple other campers and everyone was super friendly and nice to talk to anytime we met up in common areas! It was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience! Im so thankful for the opportunity to enjoy this with my daughter! I hope it get to make a trip back soon as we came all the way from FORT WORTH TEXAS!! I hope everyone enjoys their trip here as much as i did! read more

Our experience with Rustic Rook Resort was beyond disappointing. We needed to cancel our reservation due to an unexpected situation and reached out expecting basic professionalism. Instead, we were yelled at by a staff member named Lisa -- aggressive, rude, and completely lacking in any kind of customer service skills. We were originally told back in June that cancellations could be made for a $30 fee. That agreement was suddenly ignored, and we were met with attitude and resistance instead of any willingness to help. The communication from this place has been all over the place -- vague, disorganized, and frustrating to deal with from the start. It's clear they have no interest in treating guests with respect once they've secured your money. This kind of treatment is unacceptable from any business, let alone one in the hospitality industry. Don't waste your time or energy here -- there are plenty of beautiful places in Colorado that actually value their guests. read more

We stayed here while visiting the Great Sand Dunes, it was beautiful! I love the idea of camping, but not so much sleeping on an air mattress and waking up in a hot tent, and here I didn't have to do either! The bed was super comfy, and the tent was cool in the morning. It did get chilly at night, but we just had the wood burning stove running and it stayed warm in our tent. Was a short drive to the dunes, and we were able to rent sleds right here from the campground. I was super glad the staff there recommended checking out Zapata Falls! Definitely check that out as well. Pros: super close to the Dunes, friendly staff, they serve food and beer. Cons: I wish they had mini fridges in the tents, bring a cooler to keep your extra drinks and food in. read more
