Very unusual encounter here…read more.. I am temporarily in the area and had been looking for a gym membership. A friend had suggested FitLab as it is smaller and typically not as busy as some of the larger gyms in the area. I was going to swing by and get a workout in / sign up, but decided to check their office hours online first. Online they were offering a 30 day free membership, so I figured I would sign up. Knowing I would likely have to pay something if I was only planning on getting a month membership. I quickly received a text from FitLab Hudson asking to schedule a time to come in. Since I was literally right down the street, I popped in. The woman who had texted me, Tara, was working the desk. I told her who I was and she replied with "oh but you didn't text me back.." in a rather off put tone, which took me back. Nonetheless, I don't know her and this could just be her demeanor, which is totally fine. I was there to workout so it's all good. I explained what I was looking for, a one month membership. She said the best she could do was a two month membership for $49/month. I told her that really wouldn't make any sense since I'd be paying for an extra month... She stared blankly back at me until I said "okay, I guess this isn't the gym for me. Thanks." lol... Having been to many small gyms in the past, I know that they are frequently more than willing to accommodate and meet your needs in exchange for your business. They also will often encourage you to get a workout in and see if you like the gym itself. Well not FitLab Hudson. I did have good luck at BestFit, which is only a few minutes away. They were very welcoming and accommodating people who appreciate your business.

The owner Jason is a military vet and was super kind. He even gave me a military discount since I'm an Army Vet which was nice. The gym has everything you need from a small boxing area, trx/crossfit area and of course your traditional cardio machines and weight lifting equipment. It's really a great atmosphere to get an amazing working out in. I enjoy coming here because it doesn't get packed in the AM like other gyms and the best part is if you have any questions the staff is alway there to help you and point you in the right direct. If the owner Jason is there he will even come spot you which I've seen him do a numerous of times to different individuals working out. There's also lots of parking, so if your'e around the Hudson area of NH be sure to give AMC a visit if you're looking for a gym.

It's unpretentious. As someone who is curvy and wanted to go to the gym to improve my physique, I was initially very nervous about people staring at me or judging me for using the weights. I've gone to other, bigger gyms like PF and I always felt like everyone was looking down on me, and worse, I was fighting for equipment. Not at AFC. Everyone here is going to the gym to work on themselves, whatever that means for them. While of course you have many physically fit people here, there are also people of all ages, sizes, races, men, women, etc, each sharing a common purpose. I've never had a problem snagging equipment I needed or felt like I was in anyone's way. In fact, trainers and members alike have told me they've seen great improvement in me, which makes me feel so great. That's the benefit of a smaller gym - the people there remember you and root for you. I also love the boxing class. It's really popular here! I had never done boxing before and fell in love. It makes me feel powerful. Strong. And, best of all, disguises the workouts a bit! It's so much easier to work out when you're concentrating on pads and bags, and I end up burning 400-500 calories a session. Jason, and all the trainers, pay attention to your moves and help you improve your form. The classes are smaller too, usually around 10 people, so you can ask any questions you want and the trainers can pay attention to your form. If you're a nervous first-time gym goer like I was, or if you just moved here and are looking for a clean, community gym, this is the place.

The staff has been very friendly and helpful, the gym is very clean, and the overall environment is respectful. It's a well mixed crowd, from long-time gym goers to those who have just begun their journey. It's a good fit for everyone. People are polite. The one pumped up dude who was slamming his weights was promptly asked to stop by a staff member. It's never over crowded, so you can always get a good workout in. There's very little negative criticism to be had here. They could use another squat rack. And the dumbbells could be more clearly labeled, but that's just a nit-picking thing (I've gotten used to it anyway).
