You know what kind of place Valhalla is (if the name itself isn't enough) when you enter the hallowed walls. Across the threshold you step over the bones and weapons of a fallen Viking, now dining in the great hall with his fellow warriors.
Seriously though, Valhalla bar is all about the ambience. It's dark, it's cozy, it's heavy metal. This place is beyond cool, and it would easily be my local if lived in York.
My wife and I had dinner here in September 2024. We dined upstairs in the great hall, but there were a few little side areas that looked cool as well. We shared one of the larger charcuterie boards and several glasses of mead. The food was exquisite. There was a boutique Sheffield cheddar that was 'oh my god' good. The mead was delicious, spicy, sweet, fruity.
The bar is small, but with lots of choice. Service was quick and friendly on a lightly busy weekday night.
I loved York, it's a fantastic city. Can't wait to return, and to drink mead in Valhalla again. read more
