There are lots of food and beverage options (see photos) from fried chicken, to pizza, to barbecue, and fried pies. The staff is mostly local young folks, which generally is a good thing, but a few would have rather been anywhere else. We tried the barbecue and it was just ok. Wouldn't get it again. Hamburgers are also in the menu. There is a lot of pass-through traffic between Dallas and Houston, so the owner decided to install a lunch counter. In talking with the owner, he admitted to never having been to Fuel City in Dallas to try their tacos. Instead, he brought in a local cook to develop their own menu. The meats - carne asada, barbacoa, pollo, lengua, etc. are all fresh. They also make their own salsas - hot habenero, mild red and mild green - and keep them in a warmer. I ordered the carne asada tacos on corn tortillas (flour is also available). You can watch as the cook dips the tortillas and then fries them up on the grill. They then place a generous amount of meat, onions and cilantro on top. They are served with lime wedges. The steak was seasoned nicely, dripping juices and very tender. At $1.39 each, the tacos are a tasty steal. This place does not have table cloths, silverware or china. Be prepared to sit at a small counter with locals or grab one of the few bench-style tables.

Obviously, with female staff on duty, that one's not a high priority, but I did see a member of the staff coming and going from the women's restroom twice in the five minutes I was there. She looked a bit frantic. The men's toilet was constantly running, majorly plugged with paper and floating feces. The floor could clearly use a cleaning, as could the sink counter top and mirror. Just glad they had soap so I stood a fighting chance. I did make a small packaged food purchase, because that's just the way you do things. At the same time, I thought to myself, "How can anything from here be any cleaner than the restrooms allow for sanitation?" Somebody needs to hose this Tiger Tote down. Next time I'll just hold it.

I was trying to get to a Shell station (stupid Kroger Rewards mentality). But the road got darker and darker. So, I decided to turn around to this Valero. The store is managed by a nice couple, who kept the place spotless. I was very pleased with the clean bathroom. They didn't deny my access before I told them I was also buying gas. The restrooms didn't disappoint however... We walked over to the breakfast sandwich area and not one biscuit, burrito or croissant, not one. The whole area was empty like it was shit down. Keep in mind it was 6am. We walked over to the pastry area where there were several people standing around. The lady at pastry yells over, you got any sandwiches ready? The guy lets out a sigh, reaches in a warming area under the counter and tosses up 6 biscuits and 6 burritos. He brings out a tray of croissants and starts putting them together like he's got all day. I literally had time to walk over to the clothes area, pick my niece out a buck-ee costume and walk back and the guy still hadn't wrapped one croissant sandwich. When he finally wrapped the first sandwich, my husband asked to take that one and the guy said, they'll be up on the hot bar I. A few minutes. The guy literally wrapped every single croissant sandwich and laid them on the counter next to him before putting even one on the hot bar. I don't know who was in charge of that morning shift but I'm guessing no one. Who knows how much business they lost and people they pissed off prior to 6am but I guess no one cared.
