If you are going here to pick up something you saw on Facebook marketplace. Please confirm they have it available! I was told that a set of two tables was available for sale. When I went to pick up. They only had one and had broken up the matching pair. Also, nothing is priced so the guy working there will make some price up on the spot. Definitely not a "thrift store" as the name suggests. Valerie's Thrift Shop is undoubtedly the finest of its kind. Having been a thrifter for over 40 years, I consider myself an expert in the field of thrift/boutique shops. I have an extensive list of boutique shops and thrift stores, but Valerie's takes the crown. This family-owned business is run by Valerie and her siblings, who are continuing their parents' legacy. Their collection of household goods and fine jewelry is one of the best, and the prices are always reasonable. Though you can bargain with them, their starting price is already close to the best asking price. If you try to lowball them, they will say "no." I've noticed that loyalty to their family business is rewarded, as frequent visits have sometimes resulted in me obtaining the items I desire at a reasonable price. While cash is still king at Valerie's, they are well-equipped for all kinds of electronic transactions. I visit annually to purchase unique Valentine's jewelry for my wife and daughter, and I have never come up short at Valerie's. The shop is well-organized, allowing you to browse through its treasures freely. Take the time to comb through their collections, and I'm sure you'll come out with your special treasure. The selection and ambience of this place is top tier! Extremely friendly and helpful staff- family oriented and owned. Downstairs is mostly furniture and decor, with some really interesting options! I imagine it's a rotating selection but you can tell the curators have good taste. The upstairs area houses mostly trending clothing items, all of which were reasonably priced and GREAT quality. I walked out with a great deal on pieces I know I'm going to love. Easy parking for the area as well and good pupusas next door. 10/10 will be back! read more

1. Purchased items that I couldn't carry home so I left them in the store and my car was unavailable. When I went back the next day they tried to sell me the things I purchased. They old me I should I have come to get it. I told them they should have put a note on it. It's family owned and operated--no one took a picture and put it in a group chat? 2. A lot of these items are unknowingly overpriced. Several times I picked up an item that is easily googleable and they priced it at the same or more expensive than the Target or IKEA price. Things that are clearly from target and ikea. They tried to charge me $15 for a dirty used target band weight, I just went to the target app to show them that they can't make used things more expensive. 3. I'll ask the price for an item then come back after I've thought about it, when I come back (sometimes weeks later it's more expensive! The last time this happened I saw some placemats, when I went back for them someone stored them in a drawer I finally found them and each placemat was $7, $2 more expensive than before. My point is it can be very frustrating to prove that their overpricing things in this cramped thrift store. Should be simple to set prices on special pieces when they bring the items in, then post prices for contemporary items. 4. They sold me a couch and I gave them (for free) a really nice furniture piece to sell. This was maybe 4 years ago. They act like they've never seen me everytime I walk in. I also identified NYSC dolls that they had tucked away and explained to them that it would be a bigger profit online. Some of what I'm mentioning is cultural so I understand but over the years I've seen them behave more favorably to some patrons. Light skinned Latinos or young white customers. I went in there with my Asian roommate and they were so attentive to her and offering her deals just because she asked the price. No thanks. read more

I spoke with the business after finding a post on Facebook marketplace I wanted to purchase. I messaged them when I saw it at night and They told me to come to their store the next day between the hours of 9-6. I drive 45 mins to the location for it to be closed and for no one to respond to my Facebook messages. They would have gladly taken my money and not given it back if I would have paid a deposit. Meh, they have a lot of stuff and some interesting pieces. I could see this being a great spot to buy items if you're a set designer for tv and film since they have a lot of vintage stuff but as a veteran thrifter they charge way too much for things you could just buy brand new and cheaper elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend it if you're on a tight budget and trying to save money. Like for instance I asked how much a basic used pasta jar was, it wasn't anything fancy and it still had the label on it and they wanted 3$ for it. Any other thrift store would charge like 0.50 cents. Its also really cluttered which is a shame cause there's items that I've seen and would be interested in taking a closer look at but they're impossible to reach. If you've got money it's fine but it's a pass for me. read more

Great prices and super nice items, furniture, nick nacks, books, framed prints, clothing, sporting goods(especially Little League stuff), tools, costume jewelry and food prep stuff. Very nice owners. I believe they only take cash as of now. I found a new Zac Posen handbag, a slightly used Le Crueset pan, a wonderful Lightship model (The Chesapeake) and beautiful bookcase here. My father passed away and I had to empty out my childhood home of all the furniture, clothing, and special items that my parents cherished. I had an estate sale, but so many beautiful pieces were left over. Most thrift stores do not come pick up items, and it is ridiculously expensive to have items take to the dump. It is also such a sad waste... i am so lucky to have been introduced to the family that owns Valerie's Thrift Store. They personally came to the house and took the items. I was so happy to know that the furniture, books, and clothes that had meant to much to my parents was going to be resold to people who would cherish it and make use of it. They were so kind about scheduling the pick ups and I met the whole family - they all work together. It was very very nice to have that kindness during such a hard time when preparing a house for sale can feel overwhelming. I will always reccomend them to others in need of a thrift store. read more

I was driving down Venice Blvd yesterday and I happened to notice this thrift store. I am always on the look out for a new thrift store so I turned around and stopped in. I am glad I did. I've been driving past this little shop for the last year. I would always see tons of bicycles and furniture on the outside and on a day off from work i finally decided to pull over and check it out. Best idea ever! This shop is tiny but well stocked. Lots of electronics, furniture, lamps, bicycles, camping gear, mattresses. Just about anything you may need. I had to write this place a review because it seems like nobody knows about it, which almost makes me want to keep this little gem a secret. Valerie's is my favorite thrift shop in central LA - this is no Goodwill, there isn't a whole bunch of junk to sift through here, and it's not an uppity vintage shop where they judge you for trying to get a deal. What they are is an adorable, unique second-hand furniture/decor shop that always has fun pieces and a ton of stuff to chose from. In the past I've found decorative hat boxes for five bucks, Indian silk pillows for eight, a really cute heart-shaped nightstand for twelve, a vintage silver dining tray for twenty... the list goes on and on. The staff is also really helpful and sweet! Last time I came to Valerie's for prop shopping I saw some Hawaiian bedding way up in the corner completely out of reach on top of stacks of rugs and chairs. I asked about it and the little older gentleman who works there braved the stack and climbed up and got it for me - I almost wanted to tell him I could climb up myself because he was so old and small but I don't think he spoke English. They really go out of their way to help you, they have a ton of stuff, and although it's a little crowded that's kind of half the fun. read more
