I feel like a cool kid just knowing about this place. I found out about it on TikTok and made sure to take my daughter while we were in L.A. for the Thanksgiving holiday. Now it will be a destination whenever we're in town. Parking was fairly easy on the side street, with spaces opening up as we were coming and going. As soon as we reached the doorway we encountered a lovely scent. I think I heard the owner tell someone in another TikTok video that it's incense? Whatever it is, it's clean and inviting. Speaking of clean, everything I looked at was practically ready to wear right out of the store. I did A LOT of sniffing because I was curious as to whether they launder items before putting them out. I don't think that's the case, but the fact that I had a hard time discerning points to their meticulousness in what they take in. No stinky, stained, or holey stuff here. There are curtained dressing rooms, which is a nice departure from nearly every other thrift store I've been in since the pandemic. I also appreciate their organization and clarity. The pictures tell the story...every rack is prominently labeled with the clothing type and price. The only exceptions I noted were a few racks with premium/high-end pieces, which were priced individually. I keep coming back to the word "clean" when I think about Public Estrellas. It feels clean, bright, spacious, and easy to shop in. Their business model - which reminds me of a thrift version of Crossroads/Buffalo Exchange - is interesting and I hope they continue finding success. read more

Well organized thrift shop and so so so affordable too, I got about 3 pieces from here. The prices could compare to a goodwill or even more affordable than that! My ex is driving his daughter to her new home in the Midwest, and the trip is going to be *so* much colder than the coldest weather in LA. I made a list of thrift shops near our neighborhoods (I'm in DTLA, he's on Mt. Washington), and designed a route to take. Public Estrellas was our first stop--and it was the only stop he needed to make! Within minutes, he found a Columbia Snow Glide Interchange Jacket *and* a beautiful trench coat with a removable fleece lining--both in practically brand-new condition. Because the prices were so affordable, he got both! I wasn't in the market for anything, but looked through their dresses and tops, and was impressed with the quality, the pricing, and the impeccable organization of the store. Exceptionally well-lit, so clean, and the women at the front were delightful! I'll be returning for my own wardrobe additions soon. Because he wanted to look for a backpack, we headed to the next thrift store on our list--St. Vincent's--where we've both enjoyed shopping in the past. It's a very different experience, of course, but in going through the women's clothing, I was deeply disappointed by their pricing. A dress that cost $7 at Public Estrellas was $17.50 at St. Vincent's. It's no wonder that St. V's is overcrowded with inventory. I don't usually have a good experience with thrift/consignment stores because the people are usually standoffish and judgmental - so I was blown away by how kind and welcoming everyone at Public Estrellas was. The woman helping me rounded up my clothes to the nearest pound and also let me weigh them in my bags to add more weight. She seemed truly happy to help! The prices are the best I've seen from most thrift stores, but the selection was just okay imo. The downside of taking everything people give is that there are a lot of older-looking styles. I love to thrift! I googled thrift stores near me and this one came up! My dad and I decided it looked good online and wanted to check it out! It was very clean, well organize and inexpensive! Lots of items to look through! And mostly decent clothes. I came across a handful of mini dresses and another good point to make, is that they have fitting rooms! Two of the mini dresses fit me, and I fell in love with them! I had the pleasure of meeting the store owner! I believe he gave me a discount because the mini dresses are $6 each, but he charged me just $8.45 for both! I recommended this thrift store to my friends and best friend who also loves to thrift! Was driving through ELA a few months back and noticed this thrift store. Very cool and organized window presence. I had been wanting to go back. Today was the day. The music made shopping pleasant and easy to focus. An open organized space with cool digs. Reasonably priced too. I bought 1 pair of pants, 2 button down short sleeves and about 5 T's all for $45 bucks. I had to get out of there quick before I spent my whole paycheck. The lighting is very good too. It's tough to find thrift shops with reasonable prices nowadays--especially in LA--but this place delivers. The clothes are on point, with a wide variety to dig through! The owner was so friendly and delightful--he lifted my friend's 50-pound bag of donations like it was nothing! I truly appreciated his help. WOW! After walking out of here with our newfound treasures, all my best friend and I could say to each other was "Wow!!!" This was our first time coming here and it definitely won't be the last. I consider myself to be a decently experienced thrifter, and I've been to some stores that are really chaotic or crowded, but everyone puts up with it because they know they'll find something good. Public Estrellas is SO different! It was a big, bright space, everything is organized really well and the aisles were really wide. The best part? They have actual changing rooms!! Aside from one other thrift store, none of the other thrift stores I regularly visit have changing rooms, and it's really uncomfortable to find a random place to change. I never felt uncomfortable here! Other highlights include: -A discount when you buy 12+ items (and it increases the more items you buy) -They have a loyalty card! -There's music playing at an appropriate level -They have the front and back doors open so fresh air flows through -Except for select items, all the prices are standardized, which is AMAZING -The owner is probably the nicest, least chaotic thrift store owner I've ever interacted with. I really appreciated how organized the store was which made it super easy to shop and they have a great selection and variety of styles. In talking to the owner I learned that he also washes all the clothes before putting them on the racks which is almost unheard of for a thrift store. Amazing! Heard about this place via tiktok and decided to check it out. Love that it was in an easy to access area of town with ample parking around (and not the super crowded fashion district). Also loved how simple and straightforward the store is layed out. Every section has a sign with affordable prices and if anything is a special item they have their own racks and are clearly labeled. The owner was also great and really helpful during checkout AND they have fitting rooms which I love!!! Plus the music they played was great, I usually have to bring my own airpods just to zone out the noise, but the playlist on the speakers was a vibe. Wanted to get out of the house, so made this shop our destination. We had taquitos at Olvera Street first, then drove the 7 min to Public. Store is big, bright and clean, with crazy low prices. I loved the layout, as all of the clothes were divided by type. I didn't score anything this time, but my son is pleased with his 3 t-shirts for $10! Definitely worth a visit if you are a thrifter.
