Home of the Atlanta falcon so I'm not sure the ties to soccer but me and my buddies came across this awesome and massive public art sculpture when walking into the stadium before watching out hometown Lousiville cardinals play a football game. Like just about everything at Mercedes Benz stadium this is very extravagant and passes the eyeball test. Cool piece of public art at a really cool stadium.

It is two blocks from Piedmont Park. The marker reads, "55 yards southeast an intrenched line of field works crossed this block extending southwest to 7th St., where it turned northwest to Juniper at 11th St. This was a sector of the Federal siege line occupied by troops of Brig. Gen. T.J. Wood's 3d division of Howard's (later Stanley's) 4th Corps, from July 22 to August 25, 1864 - these dates representing the period of siege operations. Lt. Ambrose G. Bierce, topographical officer of Hazen's brigade, Wood's division, was later known as an author of stories relating to his experiences in the Federal Army - perhaps the only instance of literary attainment deriving therefrom in the campaign for Atlanta." It is marker number 060-82 and was erected in 1956 by the Georgia Historical Commission. There is street parking here, just don't block the driveways or hydrant. Located at the entrance of the famed centennial Olympic park in downtown Atlanta. Very popular photo op and a symbol that has become universally known as the Olympics is celebrated everywhere in the world. The entire park features all kinds of callback and tributes to the Olympics held in Atlanta so having the rings was a no brainer I imagine. Overall very cool and fun site and photo op to check out when visiting that very popular portion of the city of Atlanta.

You will not find a "high end" museum but rather a charming small town feel with people that know their local history. Open only on Thursdays (1-4 p.m.) and Saturdays(11 a.m.-3 p.m.) You will have a much better time if you ask questions. A great place if you live in EP and want to spend some time learning the local history. They have a train on site and while it is locked in a fence, I found that if you ask they will gladly open the gate and the caboose and let you tour it. You can't beat it for the price...FREE! They do have a donation box and offer memberships but they don't seem to mind if you come and go as they are extremely friendly here.

I visited the small East Point Historical Society and Mr. Charles Strickland who was volunteering on a saturday. I mentioned my dissapointmetn at being unable to find the reference. In five miniutes he found a copy of the map with the informaiton I was looking for. A tremendous recource and all operated by volunteers!

It took me a while to get around to writing a review for my "home" bridge, the 17th Street Bridge in Midtown Atlanta. It connects Atlantic Station and West Midtown (Westside) to the east side of Midtown. As a Midtown resident since 2000 and an original Atlantic Station homeowner since 2005, I watched as this bridge was constructed and it became a part of my daily life when it opened. The east-west bridge opened in 2004, spanning 20+ lanes of interstate (Atlanta's Downtown Connector: I-75 and I-85). The bridge is wide, featuring 6 vehicular lanes (3 in either direction) and 2 bike lanes. The sidewalks are very wide, especially the sidewalk on the north side. There are minimal "benches" and landscaping/plants. I put benches in quotes because the structures really aren't traditional benches that you can sit or lay on, but more like cylinders that you can really only lean on. There are no waste baskets or anything like that. It's mostly just concrete. I guess the Georgia Department of Transportation didn't want people loitering on the bridge. There's fencing on either side. In 2011, nearly 200 feet of fencing fell on to the interstate below (https://www.ajc.com/news/local/downtown-connector-reopens-after-17th-street-bridge-railings-fall/eGFlI2gH7jlHViZAcIbTXO/). Luckily, no one was hurt. An investigation revealed that defective industrial-strength glue used on the fence's anchor bolts was the cause of the collapse (https://www.wsbtv.com/news/report-defective-epoxy-blame-17th-st-bridge-fencin/242643269). The bridge is a popular place for people to take photos of the Midtown and Downtown Atlanta skyline. People also like to gather on the bridge when there are fireworks for New Year's and Independence Day. Local TV news stations, particularly nearby WGCL-TV (CBS 46), like to use the bridge and its scenic city backdrop to broadcast and record news segments. The sidewalks are spacious and wide enough for news vans to hop the curb and park on them. This bridge is the gateway to Atlantic Station for those coming from the nearest MARTA train station (Arts Center Station). The bridge is part of the Atlantic Station Shuttle's loop between Arts Center Station to the east and IKEA to the west (the shuttle runs daily and is free to the public). While not as visually appealing as metro Atlanta interstate bridges built or renovated after 2004, the 17th Street Bridge (aside from the fencing snafu in 2011) has always been clean, in good condition, functional, and useful with overall good traffic flow. Uniquely, the bridge is painted bright yellow. If I recall correctly, the reason why it's painted yellow is because there was a vote for which color the bridge should be painted and yellow won.

Everytime you pass this bridge from Midtown to Atlantic Station you get a gorgeous view of the…read morecity skyline towering over the interstate. You will find many people taking pictures here for fun and even for modeling purposes. I enjoy passing by in the daytime and at night as well. There is fencing along the bridge that is now turning into one of those promise bridges with the locks on the links. I am excited for more people to cross over and catch a glimpse of the city from this angle.
