Being an…read moreadult learner, things don't always come as quickly as they did when I was younger, and as a musician with high standards, I often get a little frustrated with myself. Sylvia has been an absolute dream. Her patience and encouragement have given me both the confidence and the tools to keep improving my playing. I was so impressed with her teaching that I recommended her to my mom, who had been hesitant about taking lessons. Sylvia went above and beyond, offering my mom a consultation lesson in Chinese to make her feel comfortable. My mom, who moved back to China a few years ago, isn't as confident in her Chinese anymore, but Sylvia's thoughtful approach put her at ease. Sylvia is a skilled, adaptable, and empathetic teacher who truly cares about her students. Whether you're a professional musician or a beginner, I can't recommend her enough!

In an Amazon - Costco - Best Buy world, it's rare to find an 80-year old local TV store in the same…read morelocation, whose service and installation exceeds the quality of the best TV's; and more amazing that they match the big retailer TV prices. But it's our good fortune to have the multi-generation owned Cos Cob TV & Audio that has been meeting this standard in our area even before my first happy experience with them 30-years ago. The store has expanded from its initial analog TV repair to major home TV theater, security systems and other large smart home projects. They also bring all this to the small residential projects like mine, which is also rare. When I first moved to Cos Cob, the original owner recommended an analog SONY Trinitron VEGA TV whose picture tube still works, but digital has passed it by. I've since bought two smart TVs from them, the latest needing a complex wall installation requiring cable concealment. From setting up the initial site inspection with Joe at the store, to Conner's perfect installation, which is separately charged, they are great to work with. I also wanted to redesign my "too little work space" 4' x 2' home office desk and install Ergotron arms for my computer displays. Their other tech, Jason, expertly took on the home office project, drilling the needed desk grommets, installing the Ergotrons and concealing the cables, giving me needed room to work. I can't recommend them highly enough

I have dabbled in many things throughout this long life of mine. However, I never…read more dabbled in drums or percussion, never knew I had rhythm. Mike taught me how to play the drums from scratch, patiently and effectively. His teaching method is student centered, and it will unearth your potential on the drums. How does he do it? A) he is agile and extremely patient. B) He wrote a brilliant book that walks anyone through the basics and advanced components of percussion which he uses during your lesson, and I recommend buying that brilliant book. C) Mike is funny, and during your lesson you will smile and laugh and grin. Stick with Mike, and you will be playing drums the way you dreamed to.

Mike is hands down the greatest music instructor I've ever had the privilege of learning from. I…read moredecided to take up drum lessons after about 15 years of messing around with bass and guitar and was incredibly fortunate to have stumbled upon Mike. I've been working with him for over two years now and musically, it has been a life-changing experience. Mike has a really incredible understanding of his instrument not just as a musician, but as a teacher. Through many decades of different types of music instruction, Mike is the first teacher I've had that can analyze when I say a particular pattern or structure is tripping me up to figure out why that's the case and then give me specific exercises to address the issue my brain and/or body are having. He manages to make even the most basic parts of practice interesting by explaining how they ultimately fit into the broader picture. In terms of teaching songs and catering to a student's interests, Mike has an incredible ability to find the uniqueness and talent in basically any song across multiple, varying genres. Overall, my time with Mike has not only allowed me to get better at drumming, but to have a much better understanding of music as a whole. As I told him recently (and I mean this as a complement), working with Mike has in many ways "ruined" listening to music for me as my brain now often gets pulled towards hearing drum parts and notating them in my head when I'm just trying to listen to a song :) I have nothing but great things to say about Mike as an instructor and look forward to continuing to learn from him for many more years to come!

Annie is a truly gifted teacher. Annie hears even a beginner with a very loving ear. She always sincerely finds something nice to say first. She has a special ability to appreciate how hard a cellist is working, and to inspire. Her lessons are fun, and for younger students, filled with games and tricks. My daughter sounds great, and has become self-motivated and independent through Annie's guidance. A friend took lessons with Annie before applying to conservatory, and said he had never been more productive than when he was working with her. Annie will teach in both Suzuki style, or with traditional methods. She had the rare gift of working fantastically with babies to adults, and from beginner to conservatory level musicians. Her location is a few blocks from the Yankee Stadium stop. My daughter loves Annie so much that at first we were first driving from NJ, and now we take the subway from Brooklyn. P.S. Annie is now in PA - look for her there.
