I started guitar lessons here yesterday and I am so impressed…read more So, no I don't know how to play the guitar after just one lesson, but I'm excited about the possibility of getting there one day!! I have been toying with the idea of getting a guitar for several years now and finally took the plunge. I originally considered trying to learn guitar from a DVD or YouTube videos, but after trying to do chords off of a DVD, I was getting super frustrated that my girly fingers are just not long enough to stretch the way they needed to to make those chords. I started lessons here yesterday after hearing about Fort Lee School of Music from a friend. I'm so glad I did. The first lesson was really great. Mike, the owner and the guitar instructor is really patient and even better, his lessons are really individualized to how you want to learn guitar, and what you want to learn. Because I'd expressed concern about being able to reach the chords, he taught me some chromatic exercises on the lower frets, and I'm practicing moving up the fret board to give my fingers some exercise in stretching and getting used to the movements. Seems like such a great way to start. We'll see how it goes since this was just lesson #1 and I'll possibly update this review at a later time. For now though, I am really impressed and have already recommended Fort Lee School of Music to a friend who's autistic son is wanting to learn guitar.

The guitar service technician department, however, is not recommended. If you want a large chain type of non-personalized guitar setup with no individualized attention, then it is adequate. But if you're looking for the special care that your instrument deserves, it is not going to happen here, despite what you may read on the website. The owner may have the aptitude and experience, but he is not the one performing the routine work, and there is a disconnect with his oversight as well. Good for shopping, not for service.

Years later, after I'd left the area, another repairman in the Cincinnati area WRECKED my violin (it was only an adjustment, but he left my violin sounding like SANDPAPER, and unplayable above third position [!]. I took it to another more reputable shop in the Cincy area, and he improved the situation somewhat, but the violin still sounded lousy. Finally, when I went back East to visit family, I took my violin back to him, and immediately he had it sounding just like it did in college! (...some people just know where to put a sound post,,,,,!) He related to me at the time that he got many instruments shipped to him from all over the country, by people who, like me, had moved from the area and would't let anyone else touch their instruments....I totally get it (I've shipped him my fiddle since when it had a serious accident and he of course did a great job.) HE IS THE BEST THERE IS- THEY JUST DON'T COME ANY BETTER THAN HIM!
