The food truck
Janice M.

My husband loves this place very much. This was my first time to eat there, the service was very polite, and fast. I will say, purple onions would have probably been better than white onions due to them being so over powering then most. I will say the food was ok, but because I didn't place my order and my husband forgot to ask for no onions I will be giving this place a second go and up dating my review soon.

Yum yum. The new-to-me dining experience I decided I'd try this week was Valentina's Kitchen - a cute lil permanent fixture at a gas station right on the fringe of Madison and Huntsville. Valentina's keeps the menu pretty simple, which I really like. Your choice of a variety of meats (roasted chicken, carnitas, barbacoa, al pastor - just to name a few) can be applied to a burrito, tacos, quesadilla, or torta. Pretty straightforward. I love when chefs do a few things and do them all well. You can get bottled drinks if you're thirsty - think I spied "Mexican Coca-Cola" but I didn't order a drink so I'm not sure. You can order at the window or call ahead. There's a couple of picnic tables nearby if you wanna eat there, but considering it was a chilly, ugly day, I took my food to eat in the car. I would recommend eating it quickly, especially if you got a torta like me -- don't want any of this loveliness getting soggy or anything. The young woman working the truck (Valentina, perhaps!) was warm and polite. She cooked my roasted chicken torta for me fresh - and fast! It came on two beautiful slices of bread, perfectly balancing soft, pillowy dough with crispy, tearable edges. The smoked chicken had tons of flavor and wasn't dry at all. Other toppings included jalapeños, tomatoes, lettuce, Mayo, and Valentina's "special sauce" - which had a nice creaminess and subtle heat. Be warned, this sandwich can be pretty messy - I'd make sure to eat it over the container it's served in, lol. But it was very, very, very tasty - and I'd absolutely order it again.

Valentina has THE best tacos. The carnitas tacos are incredibly good and simply delicious. Do not pass by this yellow truck without getting your taco fix! That's it, that's the review. :)

Steak quesadilla, tacos, and steak burrito

Driven past this taco truck a few times and thought we'd finally give it a try and I'm SO glad we did. The food was flavorful and very well made. We ordered an assortment of tacos, a steak quesadilla, and steak burrito. There wasn't one thing we didn't like. We have a lot of picky eaters at home and it was a hit across the board. My dad even said it was the best burrito he's had in his life! Definitely will be coming back for more!

Pastor tacos and one chicken taco on the end.

It was our second time at Valentina's. Got tacos the first time with special sauce a few days ago and knew we had to go back ASAP. This time we got pastor tacos, fajita chicken tacos, and a burrito with everything on it. Hands down the best Mexican food in the Madison area, and great prices. Valentina is very nice to all her guests and she is an amazing cook, highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Chicken Burrito. Very good!!

Pretty much, found an amazing taco truck that serves some of the best tacos. Very friendly service and the lady that took my order (Rosio if I remember correctly please forgive me if I don't remember) was very respectful and very nice. It is her and her mother that work there. The food we ordered is the tacos for $1.95 each. (There are some others that do cost more) I will post the pictures of all we had. Every single taco comes with cilantro and onions. The flavor for all of them was just magnificent. It reminded me my neighbors cooking when they would invite me and my family over for tacos. They are in a very nice location! Please give them a try I promise you won't regret it and also we yesterday was our 2nd day in row to eat with them. Their food is AMAZING!!!

I discovered this mobile hot dog cart business on Facebook a month or so ago. I love a good hot…read moredog and I love a local business, so I knew I had to chase them down and try one for myself. The menu is simple but highly creative. You can build your own hot dog with a variety of toppings (classics, like ketchup or mustard, are free; premium, like peppers and onions or pineapple relish, are .75 cents) or you can order one of the chef's specialty dogs. By default, the dogs are enormous, savory, and all beef, but you can change to a sausage dog for an upcharge if that's more your flavor. Specialty dogs run between $7-$8, depending on the number and type of toppings. Each one is named after an iconic or well traveled road in Huntsville, which is a great tie-in to their name and theme. You can buy chips on the side, but we all found the dogs to be a more than ample lunchtime meal, and worth the price. My parents and I had the 431 (pineapple relish, bacon bits, peppers and onions), the South Parkway (a tricked out chili cheese), and the Monte Sano (brown mustard, kraut, pickle relish, bacon bits). Each one was delish, piled high with toppings, and made fresh to order. It's obvious the owner is thoughtful and particular about the toppings. The bacon bits were real, freshly chopped, crispy and fatty bacon -- not the kind you buy in a package at the store. Astoundingly, the buns held up to all the goodies piled on top. If you're too intimated to eat with your hands, forks and a multitude of napkins are at your disposal. The owner was there slinging dogs himself and we had a good time chatting with him. He and his wife run the operation by themselves, and it's nice to see and interact directly with the people who benefit from your business. He was very nice and did an excellent job preparing our food and telling us about his product. You can reliably find their weekly schedule posted on Facebook. They're often at Parkway Scrubs for lunch and also appear at local breweries and events for dinner, but don't take my word for it -- find their page and hunt down this cool little cart.

Oaxaca Flavors - Burrito with al pastor

Oaxaca Flavors

We tried out this food truck a few weeks ago, just before the Christmas craziness. It was a solid…read more3.5/5 for me. The truck is parked seemingly permanently off to the side of a Mobil gas station, just a little bit further into Madison past the Trash Pandas Stadium. They offer the option to order online. The menu is fairly large and they do have specials from time to time. The young woman who took my order was polite and personable and I observed her fluently switch from English to Spanish and vice versa depending on customer need. They were doing a pretty solid business. A small vibrating device was passed out to each customer, which would vibrate and ring when the food was ready. I'm pretty sure this is the only truck in the area that offers tlayudas, which is a dish created and primarily prepared in Oaxaca. Here, it's a very large, charred tortilla covered in toppings including beans, veggies, and a protein of choice. I ordered one with chicken so I could try it; I got a burrito with al pastor for my husband. They were serving champurrado as well, and I couldn't resist a cup of that. My food and drink all came out at once and I carted it home to eat. The champurrado was too hot to drink for a while anyway, and the food held up pretty well. When I did get around to drinking, it was thick, not too sweet, and creamy. I think other places I've tried it are actually calling hot chocolate with cinnamon champurrado, but I think this was the real deal, with a heavy masa harina base. I enjoyed it. Husband's burrito was large and quite tasty. The rice inside was cooked nicely. My tlayuda was also pretty good, and huge - lots to eat. The sear on the tortilla added an interesting flavor, with the tortilla itself being alternately crispy and chewy, and the fresh charred jalapeño on top added good heat and flavor. The veggie toppings, especially the beans, were fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, I really didn't like the chicken; it was chopped in small bits and really didn't have much flavor or seasoning. The rubbery texture made it worse. I would order a tlayuda again, but would definitely change up the protein. Husband's al pastor was a better choice. Overall, it's definitely worth it to try this truck to sample some harder-to-find fare in the area.

The tacos are small with 2 corn tortillas each, topped with onion and cilantro. Come was a red sauce, lime wedges, a pepper and a couple of cucumber slices on the side. The beans are puréed, very smooth, and topped with cheese. The tamales come with a green sauce. They are pretty spicy, there are chunks of jalapeños in them.
