As a timeshare owner I've used Vacation Candy several times to rent my units. I've never had an issue. Contracts are clear and concise, payments are prompt as promised. I've read several "negative reviews" about them and it seems most of the issues are either resort related or out of their control. They are upfront about fees whereas Redweek strategically hides their fees and misrepresents rental amounts to potential renters. When you actually click on "rent" the other fees appear, sometimes adding 12% add'l. Communication with VC is quick and they usually respond within an hour. read more

I tried to resolve an issue with them and email was the only way to communicate with them. In addition vacation candy did not make any attempts to contact the owner of villa I rented to help resolve an issue. My opinion is this company has profits a priority over helping customers resolve problems. As a small business owner myself, addressing customer issues is vital to a providing a good service. As a timeshare owner that has used Vacation Candy to rent my unit, and as an occasional renter myself, you have a lot more confidence using Vacation Candy. They deal with the contract and correspondence between owner and renter. They deal with the money. And yes they charge a commission - but they aren't going to do the work for free. I guess one has to chalk the extra money paid on commission up to peace of mind. As an owner, I don't like waiting until after my renter has checked out to get payment as many times the rentals are offsetting maintenance fees that are due long before the stay. And I don't like fielding all kinds of questions from potential renters about my unit and whether I can switch the dates or take a lesser amount. This is handled by Vacation Candy. As a renter, Vacation Candy is familiar with the properties they rent and they are all very nice properties. I have found that there is a lot less traffic on their site than their used to be and rentals sit for long periods of time with no interest. They used to be my "go to". read more

I read so many negative reviews and I feel this is a bit unfair to VacationCandy. I am a timeshare owner of two beautiful resorts and have rented out unused villas quite a few times through VC. I believe the renters were very happy and they did not write any reviews like most of satisfied customers, only unhappy ones do write (which is understandable). During Covid I refunded the money to renters even though I lost money. People don't understand timeshare owners have to deal with very strict reservation/cancellation policies, not like hotels. The resorts are beautiful so it is worthwhile. I feel VC's process is pretty straightforward and easy to work with. They check/verify very throughly about the reservations and made sure the Guest Names are updated with confirmation. They are efficient and responsive. read more

On February 24, 2020 we booked a reservation request with VacationCandy (https://vacationcandy.com/) for a 7-day / 8-night stay for a 2 Bedroom / 2 Bathrooms Villa at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas in Maui, Hawaii. Along with that fee was a $476 VRBO (https://vrbo.com) service fee, bringing the total to over $5,000. On March 13th, 2020 due to the increasing concern about Covid-19 coronavirus we reached out to VacationCandy via multiple emails (as they are not answering phone calls and only taking voicemails that they do not respond to) to see if there is a possibility that the owners would be willing to help us out with rebooking our vacation to a later date given warnings from medical / health professionals not to travel and to start practice social distancing. VacationCandy has since responded multiple times communicating that all of their reservations are non-refundable. They are saying that their inventory is provided from individual timeshare owners and not from resorts specifically. VacationCandy communicated that they will continue to monitor the Coronavirus situation and will notify us if the owner with whom our reservation was placed is able to re-book our reservation for a later date and/or cancel our booking without penalty. Their position is if the owner is unable to re-book or cancel our reservation that VacationCandy's terms and conditions would remain applicable. Additionally we purchased travel insurance for $300.00 that is appearing to not be helpful at all with our situation unless one of our 5 family members becomes severely sick and is unable to travel and can prove it with a medical note from a doctor. Given we are under "shelter in place" orders from San Francisco Bay Area government and public health officials NOT to do any nonessential travel and to stay home, we are finding this situation increasingly stressful and challenging and wondering why the owner of this timeshare is unable to or simply unwilling to allow us to re-book or cancel. On the one hand, we do not want to disobey the shelter in place order and travel to Hawaii for a vacation that would put any of our family members at risk of contracting (and then further spreading) the Covid-19 Coronavirus... but on the other hand we do not want to lose $5,002.00 because we are unable to cancel our VacationCandy reservation. It seems that vacation candy brokers unwanted condos. I just paid $3500 for ocean view at Marriott Ocean Point in Palm Beach. I am looking out a first floor parking lot for the next 8 days. Buyer beware, you have no choice in room and Marriott gives low preference to the third party. Tried making a reservation for the Westin Kaanapali Ocean villas for July 2021. We made the reservation request and then they sent an email saying that they are not processing credit cards at this time and they are only accepting wire transfers for payment. I'm sorry but that seems shady. I have booked at least 10 VRBOs in the past and have never been asked to wire transfer payment. We will be watching our credit card to see if they charge it from when we requested the booking. Don't book, shady business practice. read more

Awful company. Booked for March 2020, they only gave a partial credit for our $3400.00 booking of $2800.00 to be used in the future. Ok, we took it - we had no other options. Fast forward to today, tried to book with credit and thought it would all be ok, but had to check the box stating that by "trying" to book (no guarantee the condo is available) we were letting go of our credit. I proceed because it was the only way to use the credit. Then I get another email stating that the condo was indeed available and I had to pay the difference of $1765.00 with a wire tranfer. What? At this point I didn't want to put more money into what felt like a scam. I asked to keep the credit to use on a cheaper condo to limit exposure...they say "nope, you already used your credit. Vacation Candy represented an owner on VRBO advertising a property that was available 3/27 - 4/3. Unlike every other landlord on VRBO, They apparently view these listings as a maybe? Maybe if you book this from us, just maybe, we will honor the terms. 1st- They let me know, oops! It's not available during those dates, it really available 3/28 - 4/4. I was frustrated, because it did not match my exact dates, but begrudgingly, I agreed to still accept the reservation rental that way. Here is where they go completely off the norm of booking a rental with VRBO or AirBnb where the next step is a usually a confirmation of the rental and re-confirmation of terms. NOOOOO. Not with Vacation Candy. They think it is ok to then, check with their seller, and have them sign the contract (sometimes taking days, because their seller's are really busy), and then letting you know, that you are not confirmed until their seller has the time to communicate with them. Hereby keeping you hostage with the reservation until they get back with you. I had to wait from Thursday 2/25 to Sunday 2/28 before they could tell me. Oops!!!! again, Sorry you are out of luck, our owner rented it out side of the VRBO/Vacation Candy contract, and just forgot to tell us. Sorry about that, we apologize for you trusting that we would follow through with our listing. You will eventually get the refund from VRBO, it takes some time. It's really ok, because we did not charge you yet. BTW, we have these other properties you could rent that are $1500 - $5000 more than they one you reserved and an 1 1/2 hours from the city that you are flying into. Glad we could help. If I could give this company zero stars I would. We have been dealing with Vacation Candy trying to get a refund on our reservation which is a few thousand dollars, since the beginning of March and they have been nothing but difficult and unaccommodating. These past few months have been hard enough considering we recently lost our jobs, and are now fighting to get back the money on this reservation with no compassion or empathy from the business. In a crisis, you would hope a company would be able to work with their customers to try to come to a reasonable solution but they are purely only after keeping as much of the profit for themselves. They are absolutely not practicing lawful business, and it says a lot about who they are and what they represent when it really matters. Very poor experience. I booked a two bedroom condo in Maui for April for my three children and I, for more than 5K. Shortly thereafter, DoD restricted all active duty and family members to local leave in response to Covid. I am active duty in the Navy, so I was ordered to not take the leave in Maui. When I notified the agency that I had received orders and had to cancel, they said would give no refunds and would notify the owner of the cancellation. When I asked if the owner would consider the circumstances, they replied that they were a small agency and very busy and could not tell me when and if the owner would reply. Incredibly rude, particularly when AirBnB and all the airlines are working with customers on refunds. I will never work with them again. read more

Our government restricted all travel due to Covid virus. Over $3200 wasted... Basically, the company threw up its hands and said, "not our problem", and the owner who was renting the property was unrelenting with no help or consideration, even though they can be compensated through the parent company and recoup their costs. I feel completely taken advantage of by the property owner and Vacation Candy who took advantage and profited from the pandemic. Was told 24 hours later by VacationCandy that the unit was unavailable after they had just recently checked in with the property owner. (Why would VacationCandy put up a listing on VRBO with calendar availability, without verifying with the unit owner upfront that it was available ?? - fishing for renters is why). Days later I was charged $325 - for a property that wasn't even available. This is such a shitty business and ethical practice. I have booked VRBO and AirBNB for years and have never experienced anything like this before. Shame on VacationCandy for soliciting vacation properties that are likely not available (despite the listing's availability), and then going on to charge $325 to unsuspecting people who inquire on the property. Booked with them for the Christmas holiday a week out. They took my money and held it for 3 days without confirming the reservation. I couldn't cancel it the booking to look for other accommodations but they could cancel without any penalty. They canceled the reservation one day before I was to checkin. I don't know why there sites let them take a reservation and hold your money hostage without confirming immediately that the unit is available.If you cancel on them it is nonrefundable. I am a host on VRBO and Airbnb and I can't accept money without confirming the reservation within 24hours and if I cancel I am charged for canceling. I would never book with them again. It was very stressful and in the end we had to cancel our trip due to them not having the unit. Just know they book you and then try to find the unit. If you are booking a holiday week short notice it is very unlikely that the unit is available. This is great if you are selling your week to Vacation Candy, however being a guest is a nightmare. They have good reviews on Airbnb and VRBO due to you can only leave a review if they actually confirm a reservation and stay at the resort. The reviews are for the resort not for the host as you deal with the resort once confirmed. As I said, getting your reservation confirmed is the issue. I hope this saves you from the nightmare I went through. Definitely not the place to book last minute! read more

However, customers' contracts are with Vacation Candy NOT with the owners. Do not book with this company. My family and I used them to book a condo in Maui. Arrived at destination late with my 80 year old in laws. Was some miscommunication with Marriott but cleared up and went to our room. We had been traveling all day, so just put our bags in room and went to get something to eat. Waiting for elevator back at hotel and saw our bags on a cart being taken to registration. Was told by Marriott that our reservation was invalid and there was nothing they could do. It's now 12:00 am and was told by Marriott because we booked with a third party there was nothing they could do and offered us a room that sleeps 4 (6 people in our party) for $900 for that night and we would have to check out at 10:00 am the next morning. Finally found other accommodations, but had to spend $ not knowing if we would get a refund from vacation candy - only reason we did get a refund was because a family member uses them for a rental in Arizona. Otherwise, I am sure, after reading other reviews, that we would have been out $7,000, plus the cost of new accommodations. Was a terrible experience and will never use company again. After numerous requests to the company since March and no response, they canceled my reservation and kept my money stating breach of contract. They finally responded May 12 that I could still travel to Hawaii, when it has a mandatory 14 day quarantine. This company is unethical and irresponsible. The other reviews posted for this company are consistent with my experience. - Refused to refund a reservation for a condo I could not legally use due to the virus outbreak - Claimed my reservation was not cancelled even though the company previously admitted (in writing) that it received my cancellation notice. - Provided contradictory and/or false information in response to my inquiries, and refused to address the contradictory statements. - Refused to provide a phone number to speak with a live person. - Claimed I entered a contract via VRBO that VRBO told me did not exist - Claimed the property manager was not offering refunds, even though the property manager (in writing and on the phone) confirmed it was providing refunds. - Claimed the property was managed by a resort (which was providing refunds), but later claimed the property was listed by an owner (and thus no refund). - Refused to give me the name or contact information for the alleged owner. - Repeatedly refused to provide proof of a contract that it claimed I entered. - Is the only entity in my failed vacation that did not provide a refund. Booked and purchased a hotel reservation through VacationCandy earlier this year for a reservation in April, and come to find out the property cancelled all future reservations for this month. The hotel advised me that these cancellations were penalty free and refunded back to the owners and I should consult my travel company (VacationCandy) for my refund. I advised this information to VC and requested that they process my refund since this reservation no longer existed. They instead told me that I agreed to a non-refundable cancellation policy and that the owner did not have to refund me, and proceeded to go on about how these are tough times for the owners financially. Complete slap to the face considering I'm the one out $3k for something I paid for and this company did not provide. I did not cancel this reservation so the terms of the non-refundable policy do not apply. VACATIONCANDY could not provide their customer what was paid for therefore the transaction is invalid and I must be refunded! Please save yourself the stress and headache and do not book any future travel reservations with this company. They only care about the owners and profits and do not have any of their guest and customers best interest in mind.
