Points for friendliness but I have taken my dogs to Petsmart groomers in Florida, Connecticut, and…read morehere in Michigan, have given Holland a try twice. Appreciated that the manager was kind when scheduling the appointment and setting aside a requested purchase item they were low in stock on, but the first visit they didn't trim according to drop off instruction. On the second visit Brenda seemed to really listen and while it's true I always request they don't cut the fur off my papillon's ears, this time after getting home I realized they hadn't even given him a bath with his full groom appointment. I pay extra to not have my dogs left sitting while they work on other dogs and have never picked up a pet with a full groom and not had them had a bath, but upon getting home discovered he still had the same small bit of debris on the back of his ear as he went in with and no clean dog smell of having had a bath. Didn't smell bad or anything just not that fresh clean smell I'm used to after a grooming appointment. To be fair to the business I have not complained directly to them as I don't want a refund or any recompense just like to trust who I drop my dog off to and am disappointed with this location's quality of service.

Apparently no one is allowed to give a negative report on The Dog Shoppe or that review will be…read morehidden. To me that's an unscrupulous and unethical manner in which to maintain a four star rating. The Dog Shoppe only had one other review. The official Yelp response at the bottom of this page under "1 other review is not currently recommended" is that "the reviews below didn't make the cut and are therefore not factored into this business's overall star rating." Really!! The sole review consisting of two run on sentences and poor grammar but which gave a 4 star rating met the Yelp standards? But my fiancee's account of her experience did not?? I would think that if there are only 2 reviews of a business, one positive and one negative that both have something important to say. Yelp claims they are not influenced by by businesses. You decide. A month or two ago my fiancee posted her account of an experience she had at The Dog Shoppe only to have that review removed. That account was accurate and merely an account of her experience there. Since my fiancee's review was removed, I am sure mine will definitely be removed also. I do not take kindly to their rude bully tactics. The manner in which they handled our dog and handled the situation with my finance at the Dog Shoppe was all topped of by The Dog Shopp having my fiance's Yelp review removed. Their conduct stands outside the bounds of a professional business operation. The issue started when the The Dog Shopp asked my fiancee not to bring our dog back because she had tried to bite the bather. Our Westie is not quite one year old yet. She can be a stinker but is very loveable and everyone is her long lost friend. Due to her young age she is still going through the learning curve of being groomed. I suppose that under certain stressful conditions, i.e. a worker not knowing how to handle dogs or is rough on dogs, our dog may have tried to nip at her. I probably would have too. Neither my fiancee nor I was there during the grooming, so we do not know what actually transpired. But we have spoken to professional dog groomers since who have told us if our dog did nip that is still not a reason to refuse to groom a dog any longer, and that even if a dog nips they have ways to control or prevent that. Dog groomers have to be people who love dogs, understand dogs, and know how to handle dogs. At least that is how the professionals operate. Professional groomers tell us that it is best to have only one person handle the dog throughout the entire process, from the cut to the bath to the nail trimming. This builds trust between the groomer and the dog. The best we understand is that this does not occur at the Dog Shopp but that the dogs are handed off to different people. All I can assume is that The Dog Shoppe is merely a business that solely exists to turn a profit and that dog grooming is merely a means to that end. The dogs be damned. What follows is the exact review that my fiancee originally gave. As you can see it is much more gentle than mine. Yet it was banned as "not recommended" from The Dog Shoppe review section. Here is her original review: "Had an unsettling experience with this business. The person at the desk told me my puppy tried to bite the bath lady, so she was no longer welcome there. First off my puppy is a 13 pound dog, not a mean bone in her body. When I picked her up she smelled very doggy for just being groomed. My daughter was with and felt she couldn't even had a bath. After getting home my puppy did not want to get off my lap, and actually vomited. After being very objective and speaking to other groomers they found the situation less than normal. Not sure what really went on, my puppy can't tell me, but would NOT recommend this business." If the The Dog Shoppe or Yelp would like to have my fiancee's original post restored and allow it to remain, I will delete this post. But if they also have Yelp remove mine to the "not recommended" section, I will post it again! We can either fight or make peace. It is up to the owners of the Dog Shopp and Yelp.
