What could improve? Everything. I used Kim over the summer to determine if a change in parenting time was in my children's best interest. Kim intimidated my children (13 and 15) and made incredibly rude comments to them, for example when asked about their relationship with their step-dad (who was been in their for 13 years) they said they viewed him as more of a father then their dad, Kim responded "that's what happens when some one steals your childhood". Kim was always late, every phone call, interview, home visit, she was late with no communication. Kim asked to speak to my therapist and kept saying she couldn't get ahold of them, my therapist never heard from her until they reached out to her. When Kim finally did speak to my therapist she kept trying to belittle me and gaslight my therapist. My sons therapist has a strict policy to not participate in court issues, so Kim lashed out at me like it was my fault. The therapist did submit notes that stated my son thinks his father is abusive and neglectful and she ignored it. When she interviewed my husband, who had just had surgery, she spent more time complaining about her medical issues then interviewing him. There was clear evidence the only reason my ex was asking for more time was to avoid paying more child support, yet Kim refused to look at the letters from child support to establish a time line because she doesn't deal with finances. All of this to say this woman did nothing to make sure my kids where heard. I wish I had read these reviews before hiring her but trusted my attorney. read more

To put this nicely, Kim is a complete and utter, disrespectful, unprofessional, rude, disruptive women. I DO NOT RECOMMEND her one single bit. She was not even on the phone for two minutes, on a consultation phone call and she hung up on us. After trying to explain to her, she wasn't understanding what we were trying to tell her, she stated "no I do not think you're understanding." Absolutely disgusted in her professionalism, and I would not recommend this "attorney" to anyone going through anything in their life. read more

Only putting one star because there is no option to not add a star! CFI Kimberly Utesch called me about a case between a family member of mine and someone else. She was right off the bat rude, wouldn't let me speak and then continued to tell me how rude and nasty I was being towards her! She abruptly hung up on me. I texted her once she hung up on me letting her know I was displeased with the interaction especially with it not even being my case and have since received several text back from her belittling me, being threatening and pretty much saying she's the judge, going to tell the courts on me yet telling me not to text her. Kimberly was beyond unprofessional and was trying to use her authority to intimidate me! Absolutely not ok! Keep writing your reviews on her folks because someone somewhere will finally listen soon! read more

As a mediator this is a dangerous person. She has zero care for the humans involved. She actually said it was not her job to look out for the best interest of anyone. Then what exactly is your job? You're mediating between 2 parents for best interest of children but could care less about the children. That is someone doing a job solely for an easy payday. I can't in good conscious refer anyone to every use Kim Utesch. She should not be permitted to work as a mediator. It isn't that I lost. I didn't. Which makes this review hold water. Don't hire as a CFI or lawyer if you want someone willing to do the work. I hired her as a CFI and she gave the court a report that held no weight because of a lack of investigation. Wasn't willing to do the work necessary, failed to read police reports, and interview police involving a serous incident with my children. Her report had grammatical errors and was a last minute disaster. She was also rude and arrogant but couldn't back up the attitude. Would not recommend for anything involving children or serious legal matters. read more

Kim Utesch was appointed as CFI in my divorce case in 2019. Her report in my opinion was so biased against me as a father doing the best i could to take care of my kids. Thank god the Judge mentioned that her report didnt make sense and the judge disregarded her recommendation for me to lose custody. I have been a loving father since and if it was up to her I would have lost custody of my children. read more

Kim was hands down the one of the worst professionals ever involved in my custody matter, which at her involvement had extended 14-years. She was difficult to get a hold of, unresponsive, ignorant to PC/DM statute and oblivious to her own service agreements. All the while, she would post attorney responses on AVVO to the tune of 2-3x per day, often saying the question wasn't even within her scope of practice. As of this review, she shows 515 AVVO responses....most of which are outside her scope of practice and with answers elementary in nature. Her practice shows to be focused in family law, bankruptcy and real estate. That combination alone should help you understand the caliber of professional she is. Kim was appointed as a replacement PC/DM in relation to my daughter because the initially agreed upon PC/DM retired early following an injury. Prior to Kim, I had experience with a qualified PC/DM for several years and understood the PC/DM relationship and capabilities well. In my specific dealings, she billed several hours to become educated with our case prior to any requested involvement. Once she was up to speed, she was never asked to perform any services by either my daughters' mother or myself. Her appointment was set to expire in October of 2018 and her services agreement indicated her appointment would automatically renew unless notice was given by either parent that it would not renew. Despite Kim's own service agreement indicating automatic renewal, she indicated by email she "was not a fan of automatic renewals." I provided proper notice to terminate her appointment and she, in direct conflict with her emails, service agreement and Colorado statute, attempted to renew her appointment with only unilateral approval. Kim was given clear instruction from my counsel that her appointment would not renew and that a refund of excess retainer was expected within 30-days in accordance with her service agreement. She failed to provide such refund on time. Instead, her refund was received nearly 60-days after her termination which was 30-days late to her own services agreement. What's worse, her refund was only received after a demand letter was sent to her indicating complaints with the Colorado Bar Association, COLTAF, Office of Court Administrator as well as initiating civil litigation against her was imminent if such refund was not received within 7-days. She complied immediately to that demand letter. In the end, although Kim appears to be highly rated on AVVO working with her will quickly prove her capabilities are vastly limited. This lady is a total Dog and Pony show! For real, She conducted my main interview with my kids and myself over video call when my children and I were at a bowling alley! lol.. I am appalled as a Colorado native that our courts and herself would find this as a acceptable interview. :( Never did she interview my father or anyone on my side of the family?? my daughters grades suffered and not once did Kim contact her school? My daughters principle contacted months prior to Kim's interview and I told her my concerns with my daughter acting up in high school she ignored this completely! lol. (COULD THIS HAVE BEEN MY DAUGHTER REACHING OUT??) Now today a couple years later my daughter is a drop out and has nothing to do with my side of the family. I highly recommend that you use someone else. I feel like Kim did not care about my kids and we were just a number. Use someone who really cares about the kids and is willing to go the extra mile to due a Proper Child Investigation! read more

I have NO respect for Kim as a CFI. She doesn't even deserve 1 star, wish I could give her a negative 5. She should be unbiased in her research but she fell WAY below in this area. We were to be interviewed regarding the family matter for my son. She interviewed 15 people and of those people only two were people for my son and he was one of the 15. If this isn't biased, I don't know what is. She did not care to hear from any of my son's family or friends. She only cared about the mother. She was supposed to interview his mom and dad but all she did was send us a generic questionnaire. Based on that, her recommendation to the court was we could not see our grandkids except for special occasions and holidays. I have no idea what that was based on because the questionnaire was too generic to come to that conclusion. The only thing she she had to base this on was from the mother. There needs to be better control for the CFI when it's court ordered. Very frustrated with this entire process. Now we need to obtain a lawyer to fix this injustice read more

The worst mediator ever. She said that the difficulty of my ex dealing with difficulties of being a single parent should be considered in the value of the settlement. She divorced me! This lady is the most sexist and female biased mediator. read more

Kim is an excellent issue-spotter who has the necessary expertise to help her clients analyze the various issues in their case and reach a resolution. In the event a settlement is not possible, she has the courtroom skills required to take cases to trial and win. She is kind and down to earth, and (as an attorney who does not do family law) I frequently recommend her. read more
