This makes me think that the city probably maintains it because I have found that the parks that are maintained solely by volunteers tend to be full of dog poop, have little to no grass left and smell awful. There is a big dog and small dog side, but you can open the gate connecting the two which is nice when there are only 2 or 3 dogs there and who get along with all sizes. Each side has a hose and bowls so you can rise and fill water for the pups on those hot days. There are a few benches and chairs scattered around as well which never seem too dirty to sit on. Parking can definitely be a pain if there is a softball or soccer game on the fields, but there is plenty of parking on the OTHER side of the park off of Regents Road if you get there and the dog park lot is full.

She said it's a great park...and it is! There's a section for small dogs, a section for first timers to the park, and then a large space for the rest. All the dogs Cako encountered were friendly, and a majority of the people too. I mean, some dog owners can be odd, but most smiled. Definitely worth checking out with your four legged family. Decided to check out Gershwin Neighborhood Park with the husband and kiddos. It is very much a…read morelocal neighborhood park as there is only street parking available. I love the spacious grassy area! Saw some folks playing catch with their fur babies and a few others enjoying a picnic. In addition to that there is a side walk that loops around the park if you decide you just want to get that summer body and do some laps while walking or perhaps get your groove on while skating on your rollerblades. There is a tennis/basketball court when your up for some competitive action against your buddies. In addition to that, a large play area for the kiddos that sits a top lots of sand and another play area that just consists of tree stumps and a trail that goes to the entrance to the canyon behind the park. I think the only negative thing about this park is there are no restrooms. Other than that we enjoyed our time here and wouldn't mind stopping by if we're ever in the area.

In the fenced dog park, we've had the good fortune of nearly always coming across other friendly dogs & dog guardians (with only one exception that happened a few years ago) so I feel like that's been pretty great for us socially. The terrain at Fiesta island is slightly rocky, hard packed sand and looser sand closer to the shoreline. I usually wear flip flops if I'm going to play with Cali in the water, but sneakers or trail shoes can also be practical here to avoid stubbed toes on the steeper inclines. We can easily get close to 10,000 steps just walking around the perimeter of the dog area. The walking path for all of Fiesta Island is 4.2 miles! In the springtime, the dog park has experienced wildflower superblooms which are magnificent to witness. There are a few benches under the copse of trees, but otherwise, if you want to sit, it'll be on sand or a chair or blanket you brought. Make sure you bring plenty of drinking water! It can get very hot, and there's no public potable water in the park. Recreationally, I have also had the pleasure of riding a horse at Fiesta as well. So much fun! Fiesta does mean party after all, right? I've seen all sorts of other recreational things happening at Fiesta outside of the dog park area, too... kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, grilling, chilling, and enjoying the water. Of course, there are designated fire pits! I've also seen a little 4x4 action on the sand, boating, kiteboarding, and model airplane flying... Fiesta really does have something for everyone. Notes: It can get very busy and crowded in the summer though so I avoid it on days when I know everyone is going to be out! Portapotties here and there... not that many though! "Fiesta Island, situated within Mission Bay, is a sprawling park that attracts numerous charity walks, runs, bicycle races and special events. It is particularly renowned as the host of the annual Over-the-Line tournament. Accessible from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, this peninsula offers a plethora of recreational opportunities. It's also a massive space, so even on busy days there is so much room for my pups to romp around! We typically do walks around the island so us humans get our exercise in too. It's about a 2 mile walk. It's a good option for warm days since the pups can cool off in the water. We like to go typically before 11 am because it's a little less crowded and parking is easier.
