There isn't much shade here, so make sure you bring an umbrella, or some type of head covering, unless having the sun beat down on your head is your thing....

Background, my son has been playing for the same coach for the last couple of years. Our son really likes her and we think she is doing a great job of teaching our son. The coach decided, for reason of her own, to switch leagues to West Jordan Youth Soccer(WJYS). We decided to follow along for the reasons I already stated. Ran into roadblock number 1. Our son is born in late 2014. For the previous league, they grouped by school year. So, our son was fine. In WJYS, no leeway. Either the coach moves up to coach 2014 children and then plays up all of the 2015 children or no dice. We spoke with the coach and she graciously agreed to coach a 2014 team. Wonderful, problem solved. So, we signed up our son and indicated that he be placed with the coach. Fast forward to now, just got notified from our coach that she got the roster and my son is not on her team. WJYS has no easy way to contact anyone. If your go to their main page, there is a single email address: registrar@wjysoccer.com. No phone number. When I contacted them about the first problem, the only person that proved helpful was the coach, not WJYS, they have been zero help throughout this process. At this point, I can't even get a refund. they make it VERY clear when you sign up. Again, the only reason we moved was to stay with the coach. If it wasn't for the fact that I have actually seen games being played, I would assume that I have been scammed by WJYS. UPDATE: Heard back from WJYS that our coach was given a 2015 team which is why my son was not placed on her team. When I told the coach what had happened, the coach sent me screencaps of the email chain between her and WJYS where she requested to coach a 2014 team and gave WJYS my son's name and few other 2014 players that she wanted to make sure were placed on her team. No explanation from WJYS on what happened, just regurgitating their rules. As stated above, the only reason my son (and most of the team) signed up for WJYS was to follow the coach. And WJYS doesn't care. Just so long as they get their money. NOTE: if someone from WJYS actually cares enough to read this, I will happily provide the information I have.

So, on a recent trip to the Salt Lake City area, I had some downtime and thought it would be a great time to do a few laps. I was amazed at the abundance of aquatic centers available to the public in the SLC area . . . WOW! I found Marv Jenson on Yelp and since it was relatively close to where I was staying, I gave it a shot. Prior to this, I was only aware of one other aquatic center in the area (Dimple Dell) and although I wasn't as impressed with Marv Jenson, I can't complain either. It's an indoor facility with 3 lap lanes open most all day. I found it to be much less crowded than my hometown YMCA, which was nice. They had pull buoys and float bars to borrow and the water was heated (a little warm for lap swimming, but comfortable). To my surprise, they also had a sauna and steam room available for their patrons. A one day pass was only $6 which, in my opinion, is a relative bargain. It's worth a visit to get your swim on or to visit the gym.

We have visited most of them, but Marv Jensen is our favorite. Their free weights area is large with most equipment necessary for a full body workout. There staff is nice and greets us every morning when we walk in. They are not over crowded like many other gyms this time of year. I would recommend them to anyone beginner or expert in weightlifting, it is family friendly!

They have great activities for all ages and they are VERY inexpensive. Their seasonal hoops leagues are great. The players aren't overly good ... the average 30-something b-ball aficionado won't feel out of place. The thing I like best ... its COMPETITIVE! A little tussle with the other team or the occasional technical foul make it all the more fun. Well organized ... refs, a scorekeeper, a lit-up scoreboard, and a well taken-care-of basketball court. This is what you pay those tax dollars for ... use it!

Recommend you read up on the rules to Roller Derby, understand what the Jammer does, how score is met, what the ref's hand gestures stand for, how someone becomes the lead jammer and what the lead jammer can do to call of a jam. Derby Ambassadors. During any derby match, there will be a few ladies walking around that can tell you about what's going on during the game, what the strategy is for each team, and why the teams are doing certain things. This is extremely valuable to anyone new to spectating. However, read up on rules to at least have a basis. Hint: Bring high speed camera if you want to capture any of the moments during the game. Lighting is a little poor and skaters move around fast.

Staff has been great- mostly college kids who also coach a variety of kids sports (some way better than others) and they are usually friendly and helpful. This place has been the exact same for as long as I can remember. We've been customers off and on for more than two decades, and a majority of the machines are still the same. The treads are worn on lots of equipment which can be a hazard, some labels are torn off and illegible, some seats are stained with spray tan, some cracking. We enjoy the classes that they offer as part of our membership. The trainers and class staff are inspiring, very helpful and friendly, supportive and kind. Unfortunately parts of the facility smell bad and it's inexcusable IMO. For example, that hallway passing the racquetball hall smells absolutely putrid. I have yet to see or detect that the berber (carpeting!!!) has been sanitized, shampooed, or replaced... Men sit between matches, pouring their sweat onto the carpet. Barf. That hallway has earned the moniker "stinky hall" for a reason. It truly smells sharp and foul. The fans in the weight room aren't sufficient for moving the stale air. Some days this summer, I've thought I was having hot flashes and feeling faint - come to find out, the room was nearly 80°! They don't seem to keep the thermostats maintained at reasonable temperatures. That's not acceptable. Upstairs, it's dreary AF. It feels tired. It looks the same as it did in 2003. Same dreary fluorescent lighting, too. Absolutely nothing updated on the walls. The locker rooms are generally kept up with lots of lockers for patrons. Unfortunately the wet area can get kinda gross. In the women's one, I've occasionally seen clumps of hair and bandaids left in the showers. I've gone into stalls only to find that the showers weren't working properly. Trickling low water pressure or non-adjustable scalding water!! Without the cover, the pool area is decent in the summer. The space feels dilapidated the rest of the year with that holey and aging cover. You can tell that kids are peeing in the pool so they counterbalance it by treating it with lots of chemicals. I've only gone to the pool once this spring, and haven't been back since I ended up with an itchy scabby chemical burn on my shins. :( I don't play on the tennis/pickleball courts, but they appear to be really snazzy. Seems that they're kept up and well maintained from the looks of them. Basketball court seems good too. The hallways to get to all these places are fluorescent lit and dreary. I wish they'd update their spaces to reflect the higher end clientele they're serving or trying to attract... They can write off the maintenance, so I don't agree with some of the replies left by management. They could make changes, they just don't seem to want to. Alas, I still go here because it's quiet and the equipment/benches/bars are usually open throughout the day, the people generally keep their eyes to themselves and most are respectful, versus the bustling "meat market" gyms like EōS and Vasa... They really need to refresh and clean up this place. Currently two stars.

I am not a member here but part of a league that is playing pickle ball here…read more I didn't know about the bubble being around the courts for winter which was nice inside it was comfortable. Outside was in the upper 60s the day I went. Not sure if it would be cooler than it was when it's 30 outside. The walk from the front desk to the courts I never would have found on my own. I didn't see any other signs that said what was what way besides the ones my group put up. Everything looked clean and taken care of. I didn't use the locker room or restrooms. They do have a bar attached that was a nice bonus. We only got drinks but they do have food as well. Next time I'll have to try some.
