Love this cute little cream colored cinder block post office in Kents Store! This little unincorporated town has about 1000 people, and it has some historical significance with The Oaks and Laughton registered as historic sites. Named after James Madison Kent, born in 1819, purchased a tract of land and he and his family ran Kents General Store that also housed the post office. Now a separate building, it has relay boxes and drive by mailboxes. It's clean and tidy and I met the new postmaster there who was sweet as she could be! They were low on supplies and only had plain flag stamps and Purple Heart stamps, so I didn't buy any this time. The postmaster said she'd be sure to get some more decorative stamps next time!
This little crossroads area features the post office as one of its main buildings, and played an important role in the civil war. If you happen upon Kents Store Way & Venable Road (Rt. 659 & Rt. 601), be sure to check out the General Store and the post office, the anchors of this Fluvanna County community.
