I'm killing time by writing this review as I stand in line at this post office for the 2nd time this week. A few days ago I missed an hour of work to stand in this line because after waiting 5 months, and paying $40 to get a key to my mailbox at the apartment I moved into 5 months ago, they finally called me and told me they had a key. When I asked the man behind the counter if he could check to see if he had any mail for me he said "no. It will be in your mailbox." Upon returning to my apartment I searched the wall of US Post Office boxes but there was not one labeled with my unit number. I used the key I was given to attempt to open any box, and finally it worked in one, but it was labeled with a different unit number. I left a note for the postal carrier asking if they could leave my mail in this box because that was the key I was given, but no mail has been left for me. I've been expecting something that was mailed to me over a week ago, so here I stand again in this horrendous line hoping someone can give me some answers or at least give me my mail. This is insane. I would like to think something can be done, but since I'm seeing complaints from over 10 years ago on here I guess there is nothing we can do except accept that it sucks and they absolutely do not care about us or our mail. read more

I need to start by saying I work in the service industry and never thought I'd see myself making a Yelp review. That should be all you need to know about how bad this post office is. For anyone who needs more assurance, here is a nice two-paragraph summary. The passport guy sucks. I came in for an appointment and he refused to see me. After I was refused for my appointment, it took ten tries calling the office to get an answer. I was told on the phone that this location does passports, meaning they straight up lied to my face about not having my appointment. After I got a date confirmed on the phone to do my passport, the appointment dates on the website changed to no longer be available. I had two tabs open on my computer and saw the dates change. In short, this little charmer has been doing anything and everything to avoid my appointment. IDK if this is a consistent theme of his or not, but I'm going to have to assume so based on the way two different people in the front office were able to lie about services provided without skipping a beat. To be fair they were training new employees so I could have seen them at their worst. That doesn't give you the green light to lie about my confirmed appointment if you had just gave me a call saying we need to reschedule everything would have been chill. read more

I would give Zero stars if Yelp let me. I'm surprised that the Postal Carriers in Steamboat Springs know how to make it to work every day. They are undoubtedly the DUMBEST people to walk the face of the earth. I tried to have a package delivered to a customer - I entered the information on "click 'n' ship", and entered ALL of the pertinent information (including the unit number). For whatever reason, the system does NOT PRINT OUT the unit number on the form. So, the package made it ALL THE WAY FROM ILLINOIS TO STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, only to be marked as "insufficient address information" on the package and now it's ON IT'S WAY BACK TO ILLINOIS!!! Oh, by the way - The building where the package was supposed to be delivered is an 6,000 s.f. commercial building with 5 or 6 tenants (each with their names on their doors)!!!! How is ANYONE this STUPID? I guess if you have an IQ equivalent to that of a garden too, at least you know there's a place where you can go to work! read more

We run 2 full time e-commerce businesses in town, and this is BY FAR the best post office ever. We've moved all over Colorado and have had 5-7 nearby post offices over the years, and no other branch even compares to how amazing this one is. The staff is so friendly and so helpful! We look forward to going here on a daily basis with all our packages, just so we can see everyone. They all work so hard, they deserve a 10 star rating! read more

I was staying in Steamboat Springs for 10 days and ordered two things from Amazon to be delivered on the same day. I was notified two days in a row that they had attempted delivery, which of course was not true. They have contractors who were just too lazy to have to climb up the stairs to the condo. My son went to the post office for me and they could not locate the package. Then I got a notice the following day that it was delivered. It was not in front of the condo door so I went looking at the cluster mail boxes. I did not have a key for the mailboxes but found a key sticking out of a large repository for packages at a different but nearby cluster of mailboxes, and it contained my package. My son also had a problem with two different orders that they failed to deliver. They should not have a contract with Amazon or anyone else if they're not going to actually attempt to deliver the packages! read more

This post office is slow, unreliable, and incredibly disorganized. The postmaster has been dishonest and incredibly rude in each interaction I've had with her. They do not attempt delivery here in Steamboat. Every time I get a package from Amazon.com(via USPS) I have to go to the post office to pick it up - they do not even leave slips in my mailbox to show that a delivery was attempted. The post office says the driver is supposed to deliver Amazon packages but it is at their discretion. I have complained to Amazon in the past about this - the process is super frustrating. Last time I called, I spoke to a smug USPS call center worker who was happy to waste my time, 16 minutes later a complaint was filed and the next day I got a call back that I could pick up my package. If you want the direct number to the post office it is (970)879-3925. Please complain to Amazon if you have similar issues. No wait ... now they said they had records of them somewhere in back of house! 4 trips later. They couldn't find them. Then wait! a month later the sender got one (not two!) back. If you need stamps etc, nice folks to visit. Prior to 2016 delivery to neighborhood cluster boxes was good. Then in 2016 came a new contract between USPS & Amazon, now our packages are not delivered and we must drive to the post office and stand in line to pick them up. We don't live far from the post office and door to door is 20-30 minutes depending upon the line at USPS. - Amazon sends us notices stating deliver attempted by USPS - it is a lie - We go to USPS.com and request redelivery, doesn't happen To add to the above issues, we have a new carrier that can't figure out how to deliver mail everyday. We now get mail every couple of days and for mail that we used to get weekly or that we can track we have learned it sits around in Steamboat for 2-3 days and is now delivered 2-3 days later than before. read more

Let me just start by saying my experience today at the post office was life altering. I was immediately greeted with the essence of mahogany, a touch of aspen, and a kiss of maple syrup as I entered fully expected an argument with staff after reading these terrible reviews. Well, when I got a solid glimpse of the absolute smoke shows behind the counter, I took good note of my surroundings. To my right, a laughing school girl. Behind me, a jolly old man with a witty smirk. In front of me stood yet another woman I'd gladly let sit on my face. After I dropped off my shipment, a birthday present for my mentally handicapped goddaughter, digits were exchanged and it was time to leave. As I opened the door, the hairs on the back of my neck raised and I had a strange feeling that evil lurked within that building somehow and that my USPS experience was far from over. I was right. A call came in from my best friend 4 days later, clearly distraught. All he said was, "Why, Brian? ... why would you do that to sweet Bella?" Confused, I asked what he meant. I could hear crying in the background. "Bella opened your gift, bro. Is there a reason you sent her candy wrappers and a decapitated American Girl doll with a pen forced up her rectum." ..... Needless to say, that is not the state in which I sent the doll and candy with my hard earned money. I truly hope there is a hell. read more

Garbage. They are polite and all but the service is fucking worthless. "Missing" packages and "misdelivered" mail, sometimes "the truck was too full", what the fuck kind of horseshit is that? The other day the mail carrier left the cluster box door open so that anyone could steal anyones mail. By the way, how the fuck do you misdeliver multiple big, heavy packages? Oh, if you're expecting to receive a "large" (read: 4-5) quantity of packages, you can bet your fucking ass they will fuck it up somehow. Sometimes parcels show as delivered even though the mail carrier hasn't been there yet, or they might show as delivered and end up being at the post office instead, not being delivered at all. Sometimes they show as delivered and show up the next day. You can bet your ass they do a shitty job answering their phones too, so chances are you have to go down there to talk to them. Sometimes you're lucky and your parcel is in the back, other times the mail carrier "misdelivered" and you're left with basically hoping that it shows up the next day. One street gets mail delivery, another street has to BUY a PO box at the post office to be able to fuckin' receive mail. How fuckin' ridiculous is that? Complaints go unheard pretty much. I would contact the Postmaster or the U.S. postal inspector to complain. Maybe if enough of us complain they will send someone down to fuckin' fix this bullshit. Had a bad experience with my package being put in general mail, tracking had not been updated for 3 days and I had called 3 separate times trying to figure it out, nobody really helped me until Jason thankfully took the time and FOUND my package. The service at this post office is a joke. My package was held at the post office due to being "undeliverable" and when I went in to pick it up, the Postmaster (she made a point to tell me that she was the Postmaster) explained to me that they had hundreds of packages to go thru since it was a Monday. I tried to help by describing what the package looked like (it was shipped in a colorful package) and she laughed at me. She took down my name, address, phone number and tracking number and assured me that they would contact me after retrieving the package. After 2 days, I had not been contacted and therefore, I returned to the post office to pick up my package. To my dismay, they returned the package to sender! WTF?! I asked to speak with the Postmaster and she unapologetically explained to me that sometimes packages get "missed" and are returned to sender. She again emphasized that they have hundreds of packages to go thru and that they "did their best". I'm sorry, but if you had "done your best", I would have my package in hand. For 2 years our local branch has allowed our carrier to not deliver certified mail slips to us at my place of business. This has been reported numerous times and we are still having an issue. Certified mail not being delivered negatively impacts our member's payoffs on loans. Instead of the local manager calling me I was sent to the 800 world (with a short 50 minute wait time) or to another number that has no voice mail. The local number never is answered and instead rings and rings. What are we to do when we can't trust the USPS to deliver mail? Steamboat Springs Post Office is engaging in blatant fraud. Like many PO, they update their tracking as "delivery attempted" despite never attempting delivery. Then when you attempt to reschedule, it still is never delivered. If you call their phone, it rings and rings, no official voicemail, no answer, regardless of time of day. I feel bad for the employees, said no one ever. If you have anything of value or want your package to arrive in one piece on time, you are better off throwing it into the ocean and hoping it miraculously floats there. I went in to mail two packages today and both men were extremely pleasant cracking innocuous jokes, trying to keep everyone in good humor. A customer repeated the same joke outside to my husband. I love that they had two men working and there were no lines unlike most post offices. Place was clean, I found a birthday card to buy and mail. I had a great experience and was surprised this was rated a two. Parking lot had plenty of spaces. It's also right across the street from Wells Fargo so I can get the banking done at the same time. read more

Everyone I've ever had help me at the constantly busy Steamboat Springs, CO post office has been very pleasant, helpful, and patient. Of course things aren't always perfect -- true for everyone and anything anywhere due to the laws of nature. But in spite of that, and added complications currently due to the pandemic, this very active post office has handled things as well as possible, imo. While I'm sure there are situations that merit a less-than-5-star rating, I'd love to see how the postal workers would rate some of their customers. read more

I would like to say that I had an amazing customer service experience with this post office and with the post master responsible for this one and Clark - Georgia and Debbie (Debby?) were soooo helpful when I had some packages late and not tracking (my fault, my labels). I had a customer in my ear freaking out and they did the best possible with a stressful situation. They did all they could to look for them, and Georgia even gave me her personal cell number to send her a photo of what the packages looked like. Just amazing customer service. Thank you!! I have lived in Steamboat Springs for 5 years. The postal employees have always been polite and kind. My problem is the postal delivery has been a nightmare. Last Christmas was a disaster, I received other people's packages in my mail box. I didn't get my packages until after Christmas, I had to send everything off late. The girl that does the delivery gave me attitude and didn't care, yet I delivered the correct packages to everyone else. read more

I got a package that came in two parcels and had to wait an entire extra day to get the other half of my package, all because "they had a lot of packages". I echo the sentiments of the numerous other one-star reviews. I would say that this post office is the #1 thing I loathe about Steamboat. Firstly, these postal workers should be delivering to all the homes in Steamboat. I have never encountered a town that had a mandatory PO Box system in place. Secondly, I have had multiple packages that have been "lost" only to be retrieved from the back after 4-5 trips to the counter by myself to demand they look for them. Finally, the length of time it takes for a package to be sorted from the time it arrives at the post office to the time it is in my hand is ridiculous. There have been many times I have felt that the staff was just too lazy to put my package in a locker so they put a yellow slip in my box instead. Whenever I am tracking a package and I see it has been transferred to USPS from FedEx or UPS I internally (sometimes externally) groan, knowing the stress and hassle and extra time I am about to deal with. Often times it takes a shorter amount of time to get across the country, than to be distributed within the Steamboat Post Office. This post office is really messed up. Our mail carrier takes it upon himself to return to sender any packages we have delivered to our home. We are part-timers in Steamboat, so he assumes we aren't there. Why would we order anything to be delivered to the house if we aren't there? Our carrier asks that we leave a note in our mail box when we are in Steamboat, but he still returns everything we order to the sender. It happens every year we are here, including this year. Have tried calling the post office several times, but no one answers the phone, it just rings and rings. When I called our mail carrier directly he had a bad attitude telling me he had done this for 20 years and does what he thinks is right. He told me we weren't allowed to have mail deliver, but we signed up at the post office and have a mail box key. This has been going on for 8 years. Have had numerous items lost or simply not delivered by the USPS here in steamboat including a vacuum sweeper. How exactly you lose a vacuum sweeper and scan it so electronically the package shows it has been delivered I have not the slightest idea. I've had packages brought to my door occasionally by what appears to be a independent sub contractor through the USPS but it has been few and far between when that actually happens. Normally I get an electronic notification that my package has been delivered and I get home to find no packages anywhere, go to the cluster box and no package or key to get into the larger size cluster box that holds maybe 2 shoe boxes worth of space. Our carrier is either a thief or to stupid to perform the duties of the job. Either way the steamboat post office package delivery is sub-par to say it nicely, and if you complain at the post office your complaint goes in 1 ear and right out the other of whoever you get the pleasure of dealing with after you wait in a 10-20 min line. Running a complete crap show around here with our mail and there appears to be no recourse for terrible customer service and failure to perform the duties of a mail courier. read more
