American Air Power Museum - An atomic bomb!

    American Air Power Museum

The American Airpower museum is really cool. It is in a huge old hangar, although I think there…read moreare some additional planes outside. I only visited the indoor part and that took me a couple of hours (and I only left because they were closing). You enter through the gift shop and purchase tickets. From there you just wander around this huge space looking at displays and paraphernalia related to flying, military operations, and WWII (and other major wars). There are several cutaway jet engines that will be fascinating to those interested in aeronautical engineering. There are several huge planes that you can climb inside and walk around. A lot of the side exhibits are very well detailed and explanatory. Pro tip: Also check out the Museum of American Armor in Plainview. It's similar but they focus on ground vehicles (tanks, Jeeps, motorcycles, tractors, and other specialty military vehicles).

Incredible models/ dioramas, great opportunities for all to go into a cockpit, a gunner's seat, etc.etc. Some lucky kid was having a birthday party there today-- loved watching the kids enjoy the museum too. Wonderfully decorated for the holidays. So much to see-- and didn't go outside to see more aircraft because it was rainy, cold and miserable. Got to go in a simulator with the guidance of Frank Rauch. Fun! Thanks Lawrence Starr for getting it running for me. Spent lots of time speaking with the friendly Al Gold, as well as several other engaging volunteers. Good gift shop as well. Definitely returning!!!

    Wyandanch Public Library

    Wyandanch Public Library

I am writing to commend the significant improvements and positive changes at the Wyandanch Public…read moreLibrary, which I have considered my home library for many years. The current selection of adult programming is a huge success. I especially appreciate that the library is offering different and engaging programs--such as cooking, crafts, and Bingo--those patrons genuinely enjoy, unlike some of the less popular offerings in the past. My 80-year-old mother attended a Bingo program last year and had a wonderful time, which was the first time she truly enjoyed a library activity. I also want to specifically recognize the exceptional staff: - A new Indian Librarian is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and always smiling. I have been impressed by her efforts to engage patrons, especially by demonstrating how to use digital resources like Libby for audiobooks and reading on tablets, as well as accessing databases for Civil Service exams and language learning. She efficiently assists multiple patrons at once, and her teaching style--like showing people how to print from their phones--empowers patrons to be self-sufficient. - Laurie at the Circulation Desk is also excellent. She is always helpful with services like faxing, copying, and handling other circulation-related questions. The hard work of the librarians and clerks is truly enhancing the library's reputation in the community. I hope these dedicated and hardworking staff members remain with the library. Thank you for your leadership in making these positive changes. I am proud of our library and hope it continues on this excellent trajectory.

This must be one of the worst libraries in Long Island . It is unfortunate that the few dedicated…read morehardworking staff are associated with the library. I lived in Wyandanch for many years before my family and I moved out east (The Hamptons).I attended programs at the library when good, educational programs were being offered. A few years ago , a new Children's Librarian started coming in a few days a week . She was such a breath of fresh air .Friendly and cheerful with the children , offered programs that were fun and inclusive . Most of all, she was ever ready to discuss and offer suggestions to parents. She had so many resources on the display table and maintained a clen, friendly atmosphere within the children's section. She was very good at art too. Each month , she had a different display and would make posters for Black History and Women's History month . Her collage on the display board were extremely beautiful .She is a bundle of talent . Last year she made a very beautiful Women's History Month display collage with news papers and included pictures of famous women inspiring quotes, authors, politicians, inventors, performing artists and more. It was simply inspirational ! Every one that sees any of her creations always had a good comment. My family and I were at the library before we moved away last year and we were shocked at how disorganized the section has become . Worst still, the desk was equally untidy . The Librarian who is there now should be ashamed , so should her Supervisor. I have never expressed my opinion publicly before , this is the first time and it's all because I heard a new library director has been appointed. I hope the library board and new director can bring back this incredibly talented librarian. She's a treasure ! J.Carlos.
