I was told by staff that "no exchanges are permitted on markdown items". To begin, this is an absurd policy. I was attempting to exchange a markdown item for another markdown item, not exchange a markdown item for a regularly priced item. Moreover, there is no notice beside the markdown bin stating that all sales are final. Instead, as staff pointed out to me, there is a notice, taped to the clutter-filled counter next to the cash register, stating the store's various policies. Halfway down the list is the store's policy regarding markdown items. I might not have bothered posting this review had I been offered an "I'm sorry", or had I been told "Iknow this doesn't seem to make sense". But no, the woman behind the counter stared at me as if I was dumb for not discovering the "fine print" buried beside the cash register. Having paid my last visit to S&H Health Foods, I now buy all my vitamins and supplements through the U.S.-based Internet retailer Swanson Vitamins. Why? Their return policy. Anything - even opened items - can be returned up to ONE YEAR after the purchase date. That's right: ONE YEAR. What's more, Swanson's telephone agents are pleasant, helpful, and go out of their way to accommodate me as a customer.
