Forest Lakes is a large beautiful community in Northern Albemarle County. In addition to their…read moreSwim and Tennis Club, they offer miles of hiking trails throughout the neighborhood. While we use both the swim and tennis club, this review is based more on the trails around the club. The trails are wheelchair accessible and easily walkable. While some stay on the main road, there are trails that meander through wooded areas or around the many lakes in the community. An amenity I like to see are trash cans throughout the trails. I feel this encourages people to not litter and to pick up after their pets. On my most recent walk, there were only two occasions in which we encountered another animal's droppings. There are two pools within the community. The north pool is more family friendly with multiple pools in a large slide. There is also a nice playground outside of the pool gates. The tennis club and proshop are both located on the north grounds as well. There are 4 lighted courts at the south clubhouse and 6 lighted courts at the north that are well maintained. The club houses offer workout equipment. The staff is friendly, and the lifeguards while young, do a good job.

I signed up for lessons at a few places my first summer. I met Luis Rosado, owner and Lead Instructor at Luis Rosado Tennis Academy in Broadlands and immediately knew I found the right coach to push me to improve myself. After only two years I am playing at a 3.5 level and competing well with players who have been at it for years and years. Luis teaches children and adults in private and group settings. His instruction is excellent and he has put together a team of coaches that mimic his style perfectly. I highly recommend joining up for a lesson or two. You'll improve your game, your fitness level and meet some really great people along the way. Thanks Luis! Aaron Spicer

Group classes are not worth it as the kids are just hitting the balls repeatedly without being taught any technique. Luis himself shows up at the start and end of class leaving the class to be run by inexperienced high schoolers. There are also too many students in a class. As another commenter noted, they have very inflexible options for weather events. Administrator Oya Simpson refused a refund when we couldn't make the alternate class. Overall, do not recommend.
