The first time I went I didn't have a ton of time to shop; however, it just so happened to be a Sip & Shop day and you could put your name in for prizes. Well fast forward a little and I got a message that I won a $100 gift card. Yeah me! So I went back to make find some more cute things. The store is so cute. If you're a girls girl you'll love it I promise. The staff are so friendly & helpful, but, don't give off stalker vibes. I hate that!!! So thank you for giving me space. Much appreciated. It's organized perfectly. Magnolia & Fig carries some unique brands of clothing, accessories & home decor. I chose a gorgeous summer dress, two bracelets and a necklace for my daughter. They have an awesome website to shop online and offer private shopping appointments. They're open Wednesday-Sunday. Check out their sales rack as well. I saw some great deals on cute dresses. I will definitely be going back & checking out more clothes & jewelry.

I love the fact that there's a big azz dragonfly on the sidewalk outside the store. I love the fact that this store represents the Louisville that I know and love. I was looking for a unique gift for my mom for Christmas. I had been to all the big chain stores, seen a lot of nice stuff, picked up some great stuff, sidestepped some meh stuff. But, I still lacked that piece de resistance to make the gift giving experience complete. My friend (shout out, Jules!) told me about Sister Dragonfly. She told me that not only was it an art store, but it sold funky clothes and jewelry. It's in Clifton, so I was betting that it was a cool place. I took Julie's advice and headed over to Frankfort Ave. I walked in the store and I was the only customer. At times, I am very aware of myself. I am aware of my appearance, my presence and that, sometimes, that makes people feel uncomfortable. It's true. It sucks but it's true. That, in turn, makes me feel uncomfortable. I felt none of that in this store. The owner couldn't have been more inviting with a tremendous...aura about her. She glows positivity. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. The front room of her shop is adorned cool clothes, interesting tchotkes and beautiful hand-crafted original jewelry. I was all set to buy a coral bracelet when she told me to check out the back room -- the art gallery. I ascended the stairs and ran smack dab into wall hanging, books, prints, posters, and mini-sculptures. Everything was unique, comforting and conversation-starting. After marveling at how bright Cesar Millian's teeth are (they glow) on the cover of his "Git Yer Dawg Off The Couch Fer Good" book, I happened into a bundle of original and numbered watercolors on canvas. I found it. I found the perfect gift for my mom that would offer beauty, support and hope. I found it at Sister Dragonfly. I came back into the front room and told the owner why I picked what I picked. She looked at it and nodded, "This is it. This is right. It speaks to you and you know it. This is perfect." She didn't know me from Adam, but I appreciated her listening and adding her input to my purchase. She prettied up my carrying case, chatted me up about Lousville, Nashville and Chicago and wished me a Merry Christmas. You too, Sister Dragonfly. Merry Christmas to you, too.

It's tough for me to use a particular label to describe this place. In one corner I found clothing and accessories, in another statues of Buddha and along the walls there was various jewelry, funny magnets and books. It's kinda cool that I can't label this store. It means you can find something for you and 10 of your best friends. My youngest is 5 yr old and he found a fabulous gray fedora. It fit him well and he is handsome in it. He begged for it and since we weren't used to spending money on fedoras for kids, we hesitated. The store owners offered us 20% off so my husband was "sold". My son has worn his hat several times and it is often a topic of conversation with our family and friends. Our family also loved the older dog who is part of this store's family. Very gentle and sweet. There's something about an animal that goes to work with its family during the day that is charming.

When we parked, we noted that there was vintage furniture, plates, tea kettles, records, clothing and a sandwich board sign calling attention to "COOL STUFF". After our meeting, we were glad to find they were still open, so we stopped in. There's music playing, but not too loud, just enough to create a welcome, relaxed vibe. Lots of vintage kitchenware, real wooden furniture, and assorted clothing. We found a decently priced women's Tommy Hilfiger pea coat, UofL hoodie, and some leather jackets, to name a few. There is a great assortment of records, and DVDs. Some children's toys and books. Ashleigh found a Betsy Johnson purse, brand new for $40. Apparently that would retail for $80. If you're into music, you'll love sorting through the records, but even more so, will love the assortment of guitars, keyboards and mixing equipment. They have some pedals and I even noted a plug-and-play all-in-one Mackie system that accommodates 10+ channels. I also spotted 2 clarinets, a bead shaker (around a gourd), and one of those cool drums that you sit and play between your legs. The owners were really nice. We chatted for about 15 mins before I purchased my Derby glass (1984) for $6, + tax. They told us that they have keys to the building next door and have been brainstorming different ideas for community engagement, maybe even an open-mic. They also mentioned they will give you 10% if you produce a receipt from another local business, because they want to encourage and help reward buying local. Being a vintage shop, I'd expect inventory will change with time and seasons. I noted lots of random little things, like gas masks, top hats and leather chokers that would come in handy for Halloween and costuming. We'll definitely be back to check them out, especially for spooky season needs, among other things. Ashleigh is always on the lookout for vintage Pyrex and Fire King, so hit me up if you spot some when you check them out!

In addition to their sustainable and ethical jewelry, they also host "repair, don't replace" events to fix jewelry, even brands that aren't theirs. Lackadazee also has a recycling program for jewelry, as well as clothing swaps. It's nice to see a brand live out the values that are part of their marketing campaign. I have several rings from here, as well as a salt and pepper diamond necklace. I have purchased other items as gifts for friends and family that are well loved. I once had a permanent bracelet and anklet from there - my lifestyle was a bit rough and they fell off BUT I still have the chains. I just need to get to the store to have them reattached. Both the in-store and online store experiences are nice. If you're in town, you won't regret going to their "brick and mortar" store. :)

Between Elizabeth's Timeless Attire across the street and 2023 Antiques, this may be the one block I always get to. (Then go have coffee/dessert at Sweet Surrender down the road) There's a lot packed into this medium-sized vintage boutique -- and Bakelite collectors & fans should head directly to the case in the back upstairs, which showcases a serious collection -- but I spend my time happily gazing into the front jewelry cases (flashy costume pieces are the focus, but I think if you look long enough you could find most anything) and the museum-quality assortment of Lucite handbags (I have now bought two here, and have to stop myself from calling them "My Precious" and stroking them covetously.) There's also mid-century furniture and decorative objects, gloves, hats and a few dresses, but oh the handbags handbags handbags handbags oh sorry, was I saying something? I got distracted by LOOKING AT THE PRECIOUS. (Seriously if you have never seen Lucite handbags before, this is such a fun place to check them out. I entered with a mild interest, and left with an absolute fetish.) This store is aimed at a enthusiast/collector crowd, and prices are not cheap - but I've never seen anything not in lovely condition, and I've loved every purchase I've made here. (And some things, like gloves and smaller items, can actually be a total steal) The owner is both fun and very knowledgeable - definitely a place to strike up a conversation while you browse.
