Although there isn't much landscaping to help brighten up the area for this mural, there is at least a lot of color in what might otherwise be a neglected and grimy looking underpass.
As part of the Lilly Day of Service in 2014, an underpass of I-70 was painted under the direction of artist Amanda Cory who created a palette of blues, greens, and purples on the columns with a bit of brighter colored greens and yellows in the shape of penicillin as it appears under the microscope. In a way, the shapes almost look like flowers or plants. The connection here is that Eli Lilly Company was the first mass producer of penicillin in the 1940's, so this location near their southwest campus was a good choice.
