It's changed hands a few times over the twenty six years I''ve been here and the family that currently owns it are wonderful, and sweet people. Always with something nice to say and a happy greeting. Maple has not faired well through the years and the neighborhood isn't nice anymore, and that's something you need to keep in mind when visiting, but the deli is outstanding and the beer selection is good and very reasonably priced. Again, great neighborhood store for deli and a quick stop to pick up beverages.

I primarily shop at this target for its Goya products and latin vegetables. We make our own sofrito and Dave's is one of the few grocery stores that usually carries all of the ingredients that I use. On my most recent visit for sofrito ingredients, Dave's was out of stock on ajito peppers. I substituded some small sweet peppers instead, but they didn't have the same flavor, unfortunately. However, making sofrito in the middle of summer when all of the ingredients are fresh yields the tastiest sofrito. It's hard to find recao leaves, but Dave's keeps them in stock. You can get cilantro, onions, garlic, and tomatoes anywhere. Ajito peppers and recao are really hard to find, except for at Dave's. The store is always clean and they have an excellent in-stock condition.

The owner was very friendly, and it's nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood. Some notes: I stopped in for a quick take-out lunch and I was sober and enjoyed the food. I expect the same things eaten at 2AM while wasted would hit the spot. I got the impression from my talking to the owner that he runs and staffs the the place alone or with little help. So not sure if they changed farms. People are nice Most herbs etc since are from abroad they do not have the fillers and bad stuff the US herbs have it's like growing your own and dried. Worth a visit but the meats I will not buy there anymore. As for cleanliness from the health dept. It's def cleaner than most places.
