I am glad we have copies of all communications and responses from Kevin!!! -- I am so sad to be leaving a poor review, but I do not know what else to do. My husband dropped off my engagement ring and wedding bands off to be cleaned, and we have not been able to pick it up. We dropped it off in May and when he went back to get it, no one was at the office. That is when we started calling and emailing for updates. Purchased a custom wedding ring for my wife from this uptown diamond company. Been customer for many years. After main owner passed his partner took over. I have to get my wife's ring repaired because a diamond fell out on side. Ive been calling owner which gave me his number after last year having to pick up my ring from him at his kids baseball game... Not professional first red flag but not crazy big deal. Now ive been trying to contact this company to book appointment for repair of the ring and no answer or anything for over a month now. Inside at store has a sign with email on it to book appointments. 2 weeks no replies. This doesnt look good for company to act this way to customers who have spent thousands on a wedding ring. We got a quote for nearly $4500 (including a $400 CAD fee and some $150 warranty) for just the setting from a big engagement ring store after being passed around to numerous salesmen only to have to explain again what exactly we wanted. Got to sit down with him and listen to all the famous people he had met, how his customers had followed him from his previous employer, got to hear him badmouth his old employer, heard about his collection of classic cars, how he played football for LSU, how he had designed an engagement ring for Roger Clemens son, got to polish a super bowl trophy, ... I could go on. After over an hour of listening to all of his self-proclaimed accomplishments, I told him I needed to get back to work and asked if he could wrap it up. He finally pulled out a diamond! Nice diamond, comparable price to competitors, it was what I was had asked for. After another 45 minutes of unnecessary conversation, I finally was able to escape. I asked him to send me the megascope report and diamond grading details via E-mail. It has been a week and I still have not received anything from him, and don't really care to anymore. I bought my diamond earrings from Rick several years back and have had always amazing customer service from him. I moved out of state a few years ago and have had to mail my earrings in. I didn't know about Rick's passing and was wondering why when I emailed him he didn't respond regarding if he had received my earrings for yearly inspection. I called the office to get a verbal confirmation and that is when I learned what happened to him. I spoke to the new owner and he had no idea what to do with my earrings even though the paperwork for annual inspection was in there. I suppose my earrings were sitting in the office for days and nobody even bothered with it. All of that got cleared away and I was pretty understanding with the fact that there's sudden changes in the office here we are again another year and I need to send my earrings for another inspection. I'm always nervous about mailing expensive jewelry and I always call ahead to make sure they know that I am about to send them in. The receptionist says it's fine to go ahead and send them in but I delayed doing so. And let me say I am beyond glad that I did not send them in because now I can't reach anybody in the office. I was in town and wanted to bring them in personally but again I could not reach anybody by phone and their website to send an email to them wasn't working correctly. If you try calling by phone it forwards to a mobile number and from there it will tell you that the mailbox is full. That is usually not a good sign and that they are being inundated with calls. I eventually was able to send an email through their website. I sent a detailed message that I've been trying to get a hold of them and left my complete contact info. I never got contacted. It's been months now. My take away on this? The business is in trouble and likely going under. Seeing other reviews confirms my suspicions. This included one particularly bad experience at Robins Brothers where I was led to believe I HAD to open a line of credit in order to proceed. I got desperate and searched "diamonds" on Yelp. Uptown Diamonds came up first. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't skeptical. If the reviews are too good to be true you have to be careful. However, I immediately felt at ease with Rick. Also he showed me some other cool projects he was involved with including other engagement rings, drum sticks, and super bowl rings...very cool! From day 1 he helped design a custom made ring. Going to start off saying that Grayland had the best diamonds that I saw after going looking at three other places in town. We had a little hiccup to start off our initial meeting which is why I did go look at two of the other three retailers, but in the end Grayland and Uptown not only ended up being the best I saw, his willingness to work with me and undo our initial poor beginning has made me more than happy to be a customer of his and recommend him and Uptown to others. The quality of the diamonds and the ability to create practically any design is a great selling point, but he will also offer free cleanings and send out reminders for checking the prongs on the setting. I had been conducting business with Fred at Diamond Cutters International since the 1990s. I had always highly respected the quality of service and the product from his company. I like Fred a lot. I thought I would be buying from him for many years. Unfortunately, I made a fairly large purchase from Diamond Cutters in the last couple years where it was clear the salesperson/manager (Dee) was not honest with me and made decisions without my approval (i.e. she completely changed the design of my wife's ring without notifying us). It seems Fred is removed from the operations these days and some of his best people have left. I will never do business with Dee and Diamond Cutters again. In November, I made the decision I would buy some diamond earrings for my wife as a Christmas present. I was very happy to find that Rick, who worked at Diamond Cutters years ago, had started Uptown Diamond a couple years prior. Let me tell you, Rick is doing business like Diamond Cutters used to. Rick Antona is the best!! We went to him when he was at Diamond Cutters International and we have had issues ever since he left DCI. The customer service is not the same without Rick. He takes care of you no matter what. DCI just gives you the run around and tells you what you want to hear. If you need to return your ring, just make sure you have the ring looked at EVERY year. I missed one year and they want to give me less then half of what my ring is worth. It's not the whole set either, just the solitare. I went here to buy my fiancee's wedding band. When I walked up to the store, I thought I was out of my league, because it seems very upscale. It is, but they have solutions for all budgets and are a wholesale operation. They have some very impressive clientele, but Rick greeted us warmly, and talked us through our options- no pretense at all. I cannot express how happy I am with my experience here.
