This place is so much fun. I won't pretend to know what I'm doing but it's such a fun date night activity. I like that they change up the auto belay courses so us newbies can try new things. My husband loves the bouldering wall upstairs. The people who work there are friendly and have great senses of humor. Love having an indoor physical activity to do for date night in such a hot clima

Uptown is quickly becoming our family of four's favorite place to be!!!! They've only been open since late 2017, yet we've only gone for the first time a few weeks ago. Now, we've gone 3x and will soon be purchasing a family membership. They offer lots of options, such as a day pass, a punch card (to get a bit of a discount), and membership plans. The membership includes guest passes each month and a free yoga class that they just started for kids!! Oh and workout room access is included in the membership too. Also, no need to bring anything except yourself and some comfy pants and a shirt as you can rent all the equipment you need here, including the harness, shoes, and chalk. Upstairs they have a big rock climbing wall (with gym mats as you aren't attached to a rope) and some comfy chairs and recliners. Downstairs is where you either go on your own to climb the auto-belays or partner with a trained "belayer". My husband took the "belay" class, and I'll be taking it soon as you get one belay class free with membership. It's only a $30 class that's well worth it as it opens up all the climbing walls to your use! The staff has consistently been helpful and super patient with all of us and my girls, especially my 5 (soon to be 6) year old who loves this place so much, she runs around like she owns it, climbs to the tops like a cat, and has requested to have her 6th birthday party there this summer. The facility itself is nice and new. They let you bring food in and eat there - woohoo as we really don't want to leave for long! They have fun music playing in the background. The regulars that go there are really nice and helpful too. Oh and they change the climbing walls up every week, so those who think they're getting the hang of it or needing more of a challenge will constantly be surprised and stimulated. Also, I can't forget, Cooper. The owner's beautiful yellow lab who greets you when you come in and loves a good belly rub. My girls always look forward to seeing Cooper! Long story short, if you haven't been to Uptown, go! If you've been, then you know you're itching to return! I see many more fun nights and days at Uptown Climbing with my family and friends. Check it out and get fit!! So many great fun fitness options popping up around BR!

My hands are torn up and callused, my muscles burn, I have dust in my eyes, and I have an enormous smile from ear to ear. I never really got into indoor rock climbing in the past, however, at a local "gym" where you get "fit", I met Rob, a mastermind behind Uptown, and I got hooked. My family and I LOVE coming here to get some good exercise. My two daughters (9 & 6) can't get enough. Each time we go we stay for hours. The hours are great for us. We can go in the afternoon and stay till 10 pm (closing time most nights of the week). Most days they open at 1 pm, on weekends, at 10 am. We also like the fact that you can pay to climb early, leave, and come back later at no additional charge. There are individual and family memberships available for purchase, but we prefer the punch cards. Buying a ten punch punch card gives you a little bit of a discount compared to purchasing a day pass. Don't forget the gear. Climbing shoes are recommended and the harness is necessary for downstairs wall climbing. You can purchase a punch card with gear for a little bit more $. Upstairs is where the harness free bouldering happens. No safety lines here so you can get a feel of what free climbing would be like. You are only about 15 feet or so off the ground and there is safety padding to fall down onto, but this is my favorite place to climb. In order to climb you need to fill out a waiver(online) and upon getting there your first time you will need to take a picture for your profile. Even if you just want to watch others climb, you still need to fill out a waiver. If you are interested in checking out another great Baton Rouge facility that tests your fitness levels, climb on towards Uptown Climbing! Oh, $2 for a chalk bag, don't be cheap, you need it.

This was my first time climbing and it was a blast. The staff was great. Once you pay you can come and go as you please. If you have your own shoes & harness they allow you to bring it too.

We tried this as a family fun day out and OMG our kids loved it! Couldn't get my 7 year old off the wall, climb, jump, repeat non stop for 4 hours. Our 10 yr old lad wanted to climb 'clean' and completed one wall he tried probably 10times to master...he was so happy. We climbed too, It's a great work out and a good mental puzzle to apply yourself to moving yourself up the routes. Stay all day for one price, we left for lunch and then came back, so it's actually a low cost activity when considering how many hours of fun we all had ! Very safe, great help from the friendly staff..we have a new hobby! The missus went back the next morning and tried the aerial yoga class ..lots of fun. highly recommended!

Holy cow, this place is so much fun! Uptown Climbing is seriously addicting. Uptown is hands down my favorite place to be in Baton Rouge. Especially if I'm trying to get a super fun workout in. My friends and I love to challenge each other on the different routes, we rock out on the V10 or lower routes because we're fairly new to climbing. We had so much fun climbing fearlessly on the bouldering section upstairs, it's so freeing climbing knowing those 18 inch thick pads are underneath, no fall hurting from impact ever. There are so many different climbing routes to choose from here for varying climber experience levels with the option to climb with or without harness. Seriously, I leave satisfied every time, the staff is super friendly, the bathrooms are clean, there's a ping pong table, what else can I ask for?

Need someone to show you the ropes (belay)? Look for someone that has a green tag. They are certified in the belayers at Uptown

Being the first of its kind in BR, this place certainly deserves some attention if you are into getting a little bit physical! I highly recommend it if you like to be active. Uptown Climbing is a place to really challenge even the most fit among us, but don't worry you don't have to be a world class climber to have a great time here! This gym isn't the largest of its kind especially if you are used to climbing gyms in much larger cities, but it i certainly a surprise for BR. They offer a multitude of problems (courses or paths for the uninitiated) of varying skill levels, which they are changing up on a regular basis so even the regulars have something new to try each time they come by. You can cut your teeth on the bouldering wall, which offers some expert level problems as well, climb to the top of the wall with one of the auto-belays, or find a belay certified guest or if they aren't too busy staff member to try a top rope course. They also have lead rope climbing for the more advanced crowd. If it's your first time climbing, expect to wear out your hands and leave with some sore forearms. Uptown Climbing is a gym, not a playground. Though they offer day passes and birthday parties, it is also a place that climbers can train and hone their skills. Also, there are plenty of important safety rules to follow, and the staff is very attentive to ensure everyone is having a safe and good time! They also offer yoga (aerial, acro, and vanilla) throughout the week. Uptown Climbing aims to provide enough facilities to replace your regular gym membership. They have a training area with free weights and climbing specific training equipment that they seem to be gradually adding to and expanding. Prices are naturally going to be higher than a regular gym day pass, but the membership pricing is fairly reasonable. Harnesses, climbing shoes, and a chalk bag are available for rental (shoes and harness not required for bouldering). I am also a fan of the belay course. It costs extra, but it is very detailed. Having good belay training is important to ensuring everyone's safety! Being belay certified gives you access to the majority of the gym and being a belayer is a great way to meet some new friends. The friendliness of the gym is a clear reflection of the staff's attitude.

Wow, this place is amazing! Indoor rock climbing fun. The facility is huge and not only do they have climbing, but also have some boutique fitness classes such as aerial silks. I loved it after my first visit so much that my husband, daughter & I bought a punch card (for 10 visits). The punch card system is so easy and economical for us casual climbers. Honestly, a membership here is not feasible for us, but that doesn't mean it's not something you'd be interested in. So, look into your options. Looking for a place to host a party? They also host parties and have party rooms available for you & your crew. My family and I attended a birthday party here and it was so much fun. I know my kid thoroughly enjoyed herself and loves to climb here. I am a big fan and am thrilled that a place like this has opened up in Baton Rouge! It definitely enlarges the spectrum of activities in our city. A great activity for the whole family. Look into their belay certifications, events and how you can be more active in the climbing community. If you don't have your own equipment (ie: harness & shoes), you can rent here, too. The owners here are awesome and will tell you all you need to know about climbing, whether you plan on doing it in here or an actual mountain. Have fun! #BatonRougeActive

Great place. Very clean. Reasonably priced. Lots of space to climb. If you don't take the $30 class there are only 7 spots for you to climb. This is the first place I've been to that requires you to take a class to freely climb rather than teach you as you enter. Besides that it's great & definitely worth checking out. They even offer complementary snacks to the guests.

Went here with a group of friends on a Thursday night. Have only done "rock climbing" once before for like 5 minutes. Started off with the orientation that lasted about 10-15 minutes. The briefing includes proper fit of harness, tour of the building, and use of the auto-belay system. You can use the auto belay if you don't have someone who's certified to belay. Once you're orientation is complete... have fun! They have sheets throughout the place that indicate the difficulty. They have a head to head wall if you wanna challenge someone. Upstairs they also have a bouldering wall that isn't high, in case you're scared of heights, but still offers a good workout. Had fun, was there for a little over an hour. Tried a little bit of everything, and I even had a friend who was a certified belayer so was able to go without the auto belay if I wanted to. Definitely try it out. Price isn't horrible but not cheap, but it's an all day pass so you can make the most out of it.

I took 20 classes in 30 days, and tried all except the hot yoga. PROS: -Beautiful studio! The space is gorgeous and clean with lots of natural light in the pilates area and fun neon lights in the HIIT class area. -Great selection of classes and times to choose from. -The classes themselves are wonderful- HIIT ranged in difficulty and the pilates was always fantastic. -Low sugar plant-based smoothie menu was awesome. CONS: -Customer service- This was my biggest problem with the studio. I was rarely greeted or acknowledged when entering the studio or when leaving. Entire classes went by when I was not acknowledged at all. It was a very cold/unwelcoming environment. I felt incredibly out of place and always left feeling kind of...sad. There was just one instructor who actually learned my name and was friendly to me, and I took multiple classes from her (she was great). After I joined the studio I never got a "tour" / nobody showed me around or told me what to expect from different classes. I was left on my own to figure it out. I have tried lots of studios around town so felt mostly comfortable in the classes but if I was new to this type of exercise, I would be totally lost. -Price- I paid a little over $200 for a new member special 30 day deal. That gets you one (just one!) class per day. There were times I wanted to do a HIIT class in the morning and check out a hot yoga class in the evening but I was not willing to pay an additional $25 to double up. There *are* 75 minute HIIT/Pilates combo classes, though. -No private bathroom area/locker room. The bathroom area is shared with whatever business is down the hall. It's a typical office building bathroom situation- no hooks on bathroom stall doors or surface to put down a bag. Not convenient for the days I had to change after work. No bowls of hair ties/tampons or dry shampoo like every other studio I've been to has. Overall, with a more welcoming vibe and the option to double up on classes, I'd come back. Otherwise there are plenty of other studios around town that offer the same workouts with a better atmosphere, and for a better price.

Tonight I took the bikram hot 90 class at 5pm and decided to stay for the new "fusion" class. Definitely a good idea! (Make sure you hydrate and rest!) The appropriately named "Fusion" class fuses poses and styles of both vinyasa and bikram yoga. It was designed perfectly! I found it to be a great mix of challenging and meditative, definitely a good class for beginners and experienced yogis alike! Before Yoglates, I never consistently worked out (like, ever), but now I go 1-3 times a week and look forward to it. All of the instructors are incredible, and I try to make an effort to go to classes where Lindsey, Lynda, or Katie teach. They take the time to teach proper form and make sure you have alternative moves if needed. Every instructor is great though. Their encouragement has made all the difference, especially as a beginner. When I started, I couldn't even finish a class, but I stuck with it, and over time I've gotten stronger! I didn't set out with the goal of losing weight, but in the past year, I've lost 30 pounds and feel healthier than ever. For beginners, I highly recommend starting with the Regular Yoglates classes and Power Stretch. Then try Trifecta and Inferno. They're challenging at first if you're a beginner but worth it! One of the things I love most about Yoglates is the community. It's a judgment-free zone. It's a mix of all ages and experience levels. Many of the regulars have been coming for years and everyone is nice. I've brought my mom, my sister, and several of my friends to classes before and it's so fun! Finally, as an LSU student, cost was also important to me, and they have student discounts. The prices are better than anything else in Baton Rouge for students - I do the 4 month student plan! They also do fun things for holidays or special events - in the time that I've been there, we had an olympics class, a self defense seminar, small business event, monthly class attendance challenges for prizes, and more! So fun. If you're looking for a place that challenges you in the best way, just go! It's worth it. (Warning, it is TOASTY in there. Drink lots of water!)
