They have a doggy water fountain in the park, but as with most of these fountains, the locals leave a bowl and the dogs all drink out of that instead of the doggy fountain. The fountain has a normal waters spigot and hose to spray your dog or fill the bowl. There is a separate area that may be used for training or dogs who aren't able to play due to surgery or temperament.

My pooch and I stopped by this afternoon. The long awaited "official" dog park in Silver Spring…read moreopened a week ago. As of now it's clean and sparse. There is a lot of cement, which I hope doesn't heat up too much in the peak of the summer. The middle of the fenced in area has AstroTurf that felt really warm when I put my hand on it. The large dog area has two hills, while the small dog area (under 20lbs) has one. There is a covered picnic table for people to rest/socialize. There is a water pump to fill the [metal] bowls place around the enclosure. My pooch isn't very social and just hung out by me and panted. I'm not sure if we will return. It's great for people with four-legged companions that like to chase other furry friends. It's mostly open with a few trees on the edges of the enclosures. Poop bags are provided, but may not always be available, so be sure to BYOBags. Parking is off Ellsworth, but when the new tennis courts open, and the townhouses across the street are completed and occupied, parking may be scarce. Don't park on the driveway adjacent to the park. It belongs to the homeowners next door. They need to get better signage. Or maybe a gate.

Folks tend to pick up after their dogs which leads me to... - Cleanliness: This park always is clean and poops are quickly bagged and thrown into the nearby available trash can. - Benches: There are a couple benches on either end of the park for folks to sit in - Well fenced in: Once the fence is secured shut, it is practically impossible for pups to escape this park. - Water-- There is a water bowl and faucet present. The faucet only works some of the time, so the bowl cannot always be filled, but when it is, that is a nice plus. Cons: - Lack of lights: I don't believe there are lights in this dog park, which would be nice to have, especially when the days are a bit shorter. - Gravel-y ground: The gravel-y texture texture of this park can really make your pup dirty, especially if he/she is prone to laying or rolling quite a bit. Any ball or toy you bring will also likely be very dirtied after leaving this park. I have two white dogs who always need to be cleaned or bathed after being brought here. They get even dirtier here after it rains. - Proximity to giant field: This dog park is next to a giant fenced in field, which I believe is used for athletics, and does not permit unleashed dogs. However, many people bring their dogs to the field instead of the park, because the field is much bigger. I think there is a temptation to just let your dogs run in the field, especially given the gravel-y makeup of the dog park, and the fact that the field is bigger and also fenced in.

Pros of this dog park:…read more * The parking lot has never been full full to the point where I can't park * It's very close to my home (I know this is super subjective, but it's a huge pro for me) * There is a plentiful amount of benches for seating inside the park * There are two distinct areas to the park. One is a gravely are that is super long and narrow. The other is a grassy area that is open from April - November. The grassy area ( you can barely see from the parking lot) is where a majority of the dogs hang out I've noticed. There is even a small pavilion in this grassy area that benches for seating. And this grassy area is HUGE. If you want to really throw the ball with your dog and have your dog run around a big space, this grassy area is just for you. * There are multiple bag stations and several trash cans * Everyone I've met there is SO SO nice and I've definitely made some quick friends with some awesome peeps. Cons of this dog park: *They need to take the poop trash bags out of the trashcans more regularly. The past few times i've been... the smell was quite atrocious. And when the wind blows... well... it might be the only time where I'm hoping it's not a breezy day. *There's no separate area for smaller dogs. So if you have a wee tike of a dog, just know that there will be much bigger dogs running around that could possibly knock into your little one. Definitely a super solid dog park. I haven't been to MANY dog parks in the area. But I most definitely like this one leagues better than the Cabin John Dog Park. Next one I've gotta check out is King Farm. A lot of people from the park say that is a pretty solid one in the area.
