We went over to the table and of course there were samples for tasting. They all looked good, we tried the Garlic Chives and The Pepper. We bought the Garlic Chives. They are very reasonable in price. You can buy a big bag for around five dollars or you can go for the small ones, for two dollars each. This will allow you to try a few kinds. The small will make about 1 cup. You have to add the mayo and sour cream, but it is worth it. The young guy behind the counter who let me take his picture I would say was the owners son, but I am not sure, either way, he was very nice.

The fruit arrived every morning - you knew it was fresh because there was no place to store anything. Now it has found a home in a real building a couple of hundred metres from the traffic lights just off the highway - the lights weren't there when this place started. So much has changed in Fall River - but this little place still serves up the best local farm produce. It has the right feel to me with big farmers crates out front filled with melons, cabbage, apples, etc. It still feels like a farmers market as opposed to the multitude of former markets that have morphed into stores. On the real side (not the down side) is that it is so connected to the local produce that when melon season is over - its over - no more mellons - which I miss - but I am getting distracted. Fortunately The Vegetorium is now just entering the apple season so I have lots to look forward to from this little place by the side of the road.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Popular Farmers' Market. Too…read morecrowded for me. A good variety of vendors, but I prefer the Halifax Brewery Market, personally. The Long Version: When my husband and I were in Halifax recently, we did 2 Markets back-to-back, this one and the Halifax Brewery Market and I personally liked the Halifax Brewery Market better, as it had more interesting foods and vendors and wasn't as crowded. My impression is that this Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market is more for tourists and the Halifax Brewery Market is more for locals, but I could be wrong. I got a Pancit Bihon for my husband and I to share at Pinoy's Best Halifax. It was $7 for a small serving. It tasted good and had this Liptons Chicken Soup smell that I loved, lol. Weird, I know. I just didn't like that they microwaved it in a plastic container. I would have preferred it if it was kept in metal warming trays and served into a cardboard container. My husband got a 4L jug of Maple syrup from Ripley's Maple ($58) for his sister. She was coming to Halifax too but not when the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market would be open so she asked him to get it for her. He gave it to her in Halifax and she was driving home, so we cannot attest to whether the jug would survive a flight in checked baggage, it would be at your own risk, lol. I'm glad we checked out this market. If we were in the area again on future visits to Halifax I would drop by, but I wouldn't specifically plan to go to it like we did this time. (179)

It's not easy to be out of sight, out of mind in a small town, but Whistleberry Market was that…read morekind of place for me. Every time I'd drive by, I'd remind myself that I should finally go there, but it was only once we were in our waning days of living in the county that I made the effort to get out there. It's a big, airy space, with lots of wood paneling that ups the country market vibe. I was really impressed with the broad assortment of products - fresh fruit and veg (local and imported), locally- and house-made pickles and jams, deli products, frozen meats, desserts, pantry goods, and more! What also drew us in were the hot food offerings, which include breakfast, lunch and dinner items. While I opted for the burger, my wife went for the pork chop dinner. You don't see pork chops on a lot of menus, let alone smoked pork chops, and at a country market at that, so it was too intriguing to pass up. Everything is cooked to order, so if you're getting hot food, I'd suggest ordering it first and browsing the grocery items while you wait. There's a good-sized seating area at the far end of the market with several booths and tables, as well as several picnic tables outside. The burger was really, really good. The patty was a bit too compacted, but it had a great char from the flame grill. You get your choice of toppings, and I pretty much went for the works. They were top notch in quality, with house-made pickles, a slice of real cheddar, and super fresh lettuce and tomato. The bun seemed to be house- or locally-made, with a lightly crisp crust and a soft and supple crumb that held up well against its fillings. A coating of black and white sesame seeds added a nice bit of flair too! The fries are crispy-coated ones, so while not hand-cut, they were an easy win, and plentiful. All of this, plus a drink was only $13.50, which seems like a steal these days for non-fast food! As impressive as the burger was, my wife's pork chop was definitely the winner. It was a *big* chop - easily an inch thick, even after being cooked. The smoke flavour was fantastic, but the chop wasn't dry and overcooked from the double-cooking of the smoking and grilling. There was enough pork chop and fries that my wife had leftovers for lunch the next day! At $15 for the meal, it feels like a steal in 2024. With a great selection of local products and produce, and delicious hot food at reasonable prices, I'm so glad that I finally tried Whistleberry Market, and look forward to future visits when I'm back in the area.
