Summer beers in Germany are typically Weizen (wheat dark or light), Pilsen, or various lagers (dark or light), but you will be hard pressed to find a hoppy IPA (Indian Pale Ale)-style beer amongst the regular draft fare. Don't get me wrong, they are also great beers, but they don't have the bitter sweet taste of a high IBU (international bitterness unit) of an IPA.
While wandering through Heidelberg we discovered you can actually find bottled IPA style beers from German micro Brewers right here at Upper Glass, among a whole host of other beers.
We selected two and then walked around with out bottles. Then we gave our bottles to a student to collect the refund on he recycling.
It was a hot day in Heidelberg and these beers certainly went down well! read more
